I did it by focusing on the part of the photo outside of the dress. Seeing the lighting around it puts the photo in context.

She's clearly spinning clockwise, lol. Could it be that some of these links are the kind where you get a random image every time you visit it? Because such links do exist...
No, it's an actual optical illusion. You can see it going either way, it's just really difficult to see it the other way once you're deadset on a direction.

Well now, I just saw it.
This is perhaps the strangest optical illusion I've seen, I've been freaking out trying to see how the hell you guys see the picture, when out of nowhere, I see it, just wat.

As for the spinning image Koh, try scrolling down so you can only see her shadow. You might be able to get her to flip directions by doing that. It's really cool, but also a bit weird.

I voted blue and black.

There's obviously some crappy digital low-quality sunlight filter in effect there which is drowning the blues/purples/grays/whatever. So, based on some quick head-math I just did, I'm going to go with some shade of blue and dark gray--could be black, idk, the picture just sucks. I doubt there's any legitimate gold in any case.

I personally see a white and orange dress in shadow. The thing is, the designer of this dress was clearly going for some kind of color illusion when they picked out the colors. If you could see the other side of the dress (where it would likely be in direct sunlight), it would almost certainly appear to be blue and a dull, brownish orange. There was even an xkcd comic depicting this:

At first glance, I saw white and gold. After analyzing it closer, I saw light blue and brown. I only see its real colors if I tilt the monitor backward.
I would blame colorblindness but I don't think red/green has anything to do with this.

No, colour blindness wouldn't affect it unless you where blue blind. I find it more dependent on the monitor settings being used. mine are more set into the red/bright attenuation so the blue/black of it are only visible on the negative viewing via tilting the screen, or adding in more blue/darkening the background. Even isolating the dress itself without having a background will have it show up tan and lightish shadowed blue on my computer.

That's... pretty much what I just said. It was a joke.

So, I see blue and black. I believe that the explanation Russ found is correct. I really want to be able to see the white and gold colors though...

I see Blue and shitty camera quality Black, which makes it look almost gold/yellow/someshittycompressioncolor because of the low quality and compression.
Damn jpeg's...
