You don't NEED Noteworthy Composer. There were just additional steps if you have it work with BassMIDI.

Wait...what?
Where is the BassMIDI program then? All I have found is the Driver Configuration Utility,
...or is that all there is? Is BassMIDI just a tool to change the default MIDI instruments?
I'm confused.

BassMIDI replaces what your MIDI sounds like. Go listen to the MP3 on the first page.

I recorded that straight from stereomix, right out of my speakers, while listening to the MIDI. That is EXACTLY what the MIDI sounds like when I listen to it.

That doesn't mean anything. Most complete soundfonts are based around the General MIDI version 1 or version 2 standard. Higher quality soundfonts will make it sound better. Making MIDI sound better is the entire point here. Hence the title of the thread.

No. Unless they don't follow General MIDI standards. You'll know which ones those are. The Three soundfonts I link in this thread each are built upon General MIDI. Yamaha XG is an extention of General MIDI 1, and many of its aspects are used in General MIDI 2.

Define "Easy to Learn"?

Anvil Studio's interface has 3 modes. Sheet notation, Piano Roll, and Guitar tabs. It's easier to learn if you have real experience playing music.

Noteworthy Composer is not free, and it only has Sheet Notation as it's interface. The trial lasts 30 days.

Neither of the above two can interface with any of the extra features BassMIDI has. Infact, there is only one program I've ever used that lets you do bank selection is FL Studio.

Fl Studio is the program I use, its not easy to get used to, but once you master the interface, its exceptionally intuitive, the trial is unlimited, and the only limitations I know of is it takes away streamlining creation and saving in it's native filetype, but it should let you export MIDIs fine.

I'd like to note though that this topic isn't about the writing of music, its about enhancing the music you already have.

Now midis listened on vgmusic sound great on both of my laptops...
...but when opening up ZC on my older laptop, I found there's no midi sound anymore in ZQ (Etc->Play midi) or in ZC.

Any known solutions?

It's 2.10.0 if it makes any difference.

EDIT2:
And apparently, trying to ignite music in ZQ lags my older laptop down extremely. Since listening to vgmusic midi always starts with a relatively long load even on my newer laptop, maybe there's no music in ZC/ZQ because it takes (literally) forever to load it and start it up.

EDIT3:
2.10.0 has no midi sound on my newer laptop this way, either, but 2.5RC2 does. Strange.
