I released a ZC quest. Who knew? *Disclaimer: Definitions of the word quest may vary.

DOWNLOAD - http://zeldaclassic....quest.php?q=384

-Features:

Entirely scripted levels and enemies.
Particle effects.
Custom strings.
Bullets.
Lots of primitives.
Screen scrolling.
Blood splatter for no good reason.
More bullets.
Lots of buttons for mashing.
And lots of triangles.

Controls:
Button A - Fire main cannon
Button B - Fire homing missiles
Button L - Rotate Counter-Clockwise
Button R - Rotate Clockwise
Button L+R - Raise Deflection Shield
Button Ex1 - Shoot Teleporting Bullet
Button Ex2 - Engage Ion-Cannon
Button Ex3 - Replenish health at the cost of remaining energy
Button Ex4 or Start - Booster Thrusters

The way I set this up is thus;
Ex1 & 2 I set to L2 & R2
Ex3 & 4 I set to triangle and circle. (Using Psx reckoning)
Then Select and Start I re-map to, ...well Select and Start.
But feel free to experiment with this to find what works best for you.

Story: Uuh... save the princess!!! icon_razz.gif Sure, why not.

Let me know what you think of it, ESPECIALLY if you think you've beaten my high score.

Script file is included in the download.

Good luck!

That was awesome! It kinda reminded me of the Atari game, Asteriods. It really did feel like an arcade game. Great job! icon_thumbsup.gif

Very fancy.

Care to explain what the different buttons are meant to be doing though?
I'm fair too lazy to read through all of your code just to find that out.

I got to the first boss and it kicked my ass.

What do you mean by "meant to be doing" ? Are you wanting to know the inner workings of them, or are you saying they're not working right. ?

nice. lol

It was late when I posted this so naturally I left out an explanation of some key strategic points, so here they are:

-Killing the small triangles will recover a small portion of your life.
-Killing the circles and squares will recover a small portion of your energy.
-Defeating bosses will fully recover both.

At about lv17 the enemies start getting crazy, and to make matters worse the timer starts working against you at this point, so killing enemies in certain orders to recharge is important.

What each button does/how powerful they are relative to one another?

Well that's part of the fun! icon_smile.gif

They're hard to explain like that since they're all good, but at different times. For example, the Lightning ray damages all enemies in it's path and has an added chance to drain HP from each target every frame. So attacking one enemy with this isn't really optimal. You really want to target about ten or so for lots of damage and potential health. Shields is another one. Probably the most powerful in some situations, however it drains energy very fast.

I tried to balance the weapons evenly so no single one is superior, and I think I've succeeded.

Hahaha. cool. Something tells me you were using the keyboard instead of a joypad though. icon_razz.gif As soon as I can get good enough to get past lv24 I might have to try and post a vid too! Thanks for posting it.

I also just realized I may have to release an update for it... I noticed a bit of slowdown there, I'm not sure if the lag was from running the video program also, or if the quest needs a speed boost. I tested it on two comps each with 2.4 ghz or higher and it runs pretty much perfectly. What are you running it on, and do you get any lag from it normally?

Actually, Does anyone have a Pentium III or equivelent that can tell me what the frame rate is? I'd apreciate it. I'm sure I can squeeze about 20% more performance out of it if need be.

I guess it runs fine ..?

Well if anyone is unable to play this at full speed then let me know and I'll put up a *Fast* version of it. Won't be any trouble at all.

Crap, forgot about this... icon_doh.gif
Nah, the lag's caused by my computer and its crappy 256MB of RAM, although it doesn't slow it down too much.
