Cory Doctorow has been known on occasion to cause some undue alarm, and I have not exactly seen this story on any other sites yet. But if it turns out this is true ... say goodbye to the Internet, USA.

Oh. My. God. This sounds as bad if not worse than the threat to net neutrality which was such a big deal. Crap, oh crap.

This bothers me a bit, no doubt--but I do believe that, if our political system is at all functional, a proper petition would be in order to bring something this ridiculous down.

The last bullet--"Breaking DRM"--bothers me the most. As an independent game creator, what if I want to break my own DRM methods in order to slip a friend a copy (and I'm the legal property holder)...? I'm breaking a law? ...What? That's just bull****.

I read this, and after analyzing it a bit, it actually leads me to believe that there's a chance that it could lead to a lot of protests here in America--and likely, other countries. We're falling victim to the corporate undermining if this is a true story.

Now that is just plain silly.

And by silly, I mean utterly horrifying.

If I understand this correctly, then this means that fan-made content would be deemed illegal if posted on the internet? Please tell me I'm wrong...

If so, this is absolute bulls***. But then again, there will always be those that don't obey. I'm hoping that not everyone simply rolls over and obeys this. It sounds ridiculous.

Yeah, I'm skeptical just like everyone else here. But if this is real...It'll be less than a month before Anonymous does something.

I'm honestly worried. F***ing pricks. I can't believe the measures they are taking.

... What....

I have a hard time believing that. It just sounds unreasonable. But if it's true, God help us. That would pretty much destroy the internet.

I'm personally more worried about my personal freedoms than the internet.

Like the Freedom of Speech? Getting your message out? Communicating with your fellow human beings? If we lose the internet, we take like a 20 year step back. icon_frown.gif

I was more so talking about innocent till proven guilty and stuff. Not that I wouldn't be worried about losing this impossibly large place where freedom of speech is a main benefactor. I'd just mainly not want to be punished for crimes I don't commit because someone does think I do commit them.

Information on the "secret treaty" itself.

Information on the progress of ACTA.

Glad to see someone besides me noticing.
