I am genuinely curious. I sort of thought carrying TP in case you gotta drop trou in the woods was common. Turns out it might not be? That's why I'm asking here. I'm under the impression this might be a midwestern thing.

I had to once when I was 10 or so and sadly had to use leaves as TP. It wasn't a great experience, so carrying your own roll of TP on hikes doesn't sound all that bad

We were in Portugal at the time, and we decided to have lunch by the river. I was but a child at the time, and to poop in the most inopportune times was my superpower.

There I was, watching them feast, myself feeling the urge poop.

What else could I have done, knowing that I - indeed - had to poop at a very unfortunate time? There was no toilet paper, and there was no cover for me to poop in private.

I asked my parents if I could poop, and they walked with me along the river, far enough that the rest of the group could not see us.

Now it was time for the poop to commence, and - how naive I was - pooped without hesitation.

After such a thrilling experience, I was reminded of the final act: to wipe down and clean up. No toilet paper, no leaves - blades of grass? That will not do.

Lo and behold, a rock. Quite the sizable rock, indeed. Large enough, I thought. Surely, I told myself, nothing dire will come from this.

Yes, a rock it was, but a harmless rock it was not.
