Okay, I know exactly how this would work. It requires dummy items for each shield, but this is how it works:
-Each shield has a dummy item for itself.
-The real shields have all the same LTM.
-The script checks whether you have the dummy shield or not.
-When R is held, Link's movement is "locked," A, B, and L are disabled, and the real shield is given to Link.
-When R is released, the real shield is taken away.
Does this sound like it would work? I'll probably actually script it tomorrow.
Press R to shield...

That sounds like it would work. Although it would be nicer if the shield were a selectable item. Maybe when you press the shield button, it disables all other buttons, slows down Link's movement, and then undoes everything when the item is used again. On second thought, I don't think that is possible. But the script should allow Link to move. It should just slow down his movement.

Oh yeah, that works fine Beefster, I made the shield into a selectable item a while back.
It was so limited in usage that I didn't bother releasing it though, you couldn't have the sword selectable on the subscreen, Link could change direction and walk round where he liked etc., and it was just the same as having the shield as a passive item but less useful really.
But it looks like you're going to make a bit more of it, so that looks great

I support the "R button" idea as much better.

I'm done except for slow movement with locked direction. I'll post it tomorrow. I have to go to bed soon. It's a simple script, but is a royal pain to set up with all the dummy items and Link Tile Mods.
EDIT: I really should stop making promises like this...
Well it's done except for sidestep animation... I wish scripts could set Link->Action. Then I would set it to walking...
