Going back to my post, I was just reflecting how I felt and quite a number of people that I know at the University I work at. I only posted as such because
a: I did not have a lot of time to go into what I was posting (unfortunate on my part
b: I was still very upset over what happened
c: I did not want to go off topic
d: I did not want to go onto a tirade on Obama

And from my last point, I already 'vented' on my facebook account, so that's not of real concern to here now. He may have been elected, but accepting it was of my concern and I voiced my opinion of how I felt.

As for how his Presidency goes, we'll all eventually find out if he keeps to his campaign promises throughout his term, and those might make for a few good discussion points in the Debate Room in the coming year. All we can do is wait and see icon_shrug.gif

I guess more than anything I was shocked that you didn't support him, as you ARE from his homestate.

Either way, one thing will always be true; he's not George Bush. No matter what he does, things can only get better with that R-tard gone.

Just because you're from the same state as somebody doesn't necessarily mean you have to support them--by that logic, I should have supported Mike Huckabee.

For the sake of being on topic, congratulations to Obama, I guess. I wasn't really surprised by the results of the election, or anything, but I'm personally glad he won. I'll refrain from saying much else to avoid getting into a debate.

True. Both the Republican and the Democratic party have been forced to realize, in the past, that ignoring the other party means a huge amount of backlash when the country starts to face a challenge that requires unity. Also, being in control of everything means you have to be accountable for everything.

In summary: with great power.....

....comes great responsibility. icon_heh.gif

Yep.

I'm still going to look into having a "Bye Bye Bush" party on January 20th. I'm hoping all my friends will like that idea, since it seems the ones who are right-wing are predominantly Libertarians. (Many Republicans dislike Bush, too, but they'll be less enthusiastic because their own candidate didn't replace him)

Why didn't you? I would have supported him over Obama any day.

He was the only one able to get on McCain all in a huff, and for that I respect him. Fun fact about that last fact; Huckabee and McCain are actually good friends.

I've already stated that I do not wish to get into a political debate here--suffice it to say, I completely disagree with nearly all of his policies.

I really would have wanted McCain to win, but Obama seems like he would do a good job. Even if it's not everything I would have wanted to happen.

Agreed; let's not debate it here. But despite finding the guy extremely likable, I second REM about his policies. Look up "Mike Huckabee" on Wikipedia if you don't know about them. Beyond referring to that, though, let's get back to Obama.

...So, John Stuart and Bill Mahr both brought up a new issue: Obama is pretty unshakable, and his public speaking is usually either "mild-mannered" or "stern." Unlike Bill Clinton, he has a clear voice with no funny accent or peculiar chronic speech patterns.

Currently, this makes it really hard to make fun of him. This is unacceptable! Making fun of our leaders is the god-given right of all Americans! icon_neutral.gif

Daily Show and SNL researchers are working out the best course of action in this regard, but in the meantime we wait with bated breath.

At least SNL has decided on a Barack impersonator since this CNN report... hopefully he'll get better at it.

The US is the number one country in the world. And because of that, what we do, affects the world as a whole. And we bully other countries. I mean bully! A lot of people don't see that but we do. For example when we do something like go to war with Iraq, we force other countries to go with us. If they don't, they are punished. So the country has to be crazy not to support US.

Yeah Look at britten what ever happnes in the US has a dircet impack on me here. The ecomey, the war everything The US has done over the last 8 years has been felt here in the UK. I only hope Ombma dose 2 things gets your men out of Iraq (cause we have plans to pull out (i think)) and that would pusided our govrment to pull out too. two fix this ecomcy crises do I have to be clearer.

I'm also happy Obama won he seemed like the best canadate (by whgat I've seen on our news (yes it's a world wide story)). I also never wanted McCain to get in as the republicans wasn't that the party Bush was in.

Hopefully Obama fixes everything (or at leasts pulls out your troops form the war (i would be happy at that))

No speech quirks? Are you kidding me?
SNL makes good of accentuating those tiny little gaps between words, and Barack's hand gestures. And the funny ears; that will forever be part of Fred Armisen's costume.

That was posted back in February. Fred Armisen has had the quirks nailed since the Democratic Primaries, and there's no reason to find someone else for the role.

I like the rapid fire uh-uh-uh-uh-uh that he does when he's about to answer a question, because it says "Hey, I don't have the answer immediately, but my brain is working overtime for you, so just chill out for like 5 seconds. I got this." Still, that's not a lot to go on, and at least his hand gestures aren't quite as signature as Clinton's "half thumbsup" or Bush's "podium romance." Alas, if Barack only had Sarah Palin's voice, we'd have something to go on.

Plus, something I'm sure registered Democrats everywhere are going through.
