I like both but I tend to prefer pancakes for being generally fluffier and softer. Not that waffles can't achieve this, and I appreciate their syrup-catching ability, but they never seem to match that consistency of pancakes that I like.

I dislike waffles because they taste too sugary and don't have a good mouthfeel, so I pick pancakes.

Frozen Eggo waffles are my favorite. If we're talking homemade and restaurant, I choose pancakes because waffles are often heavier and greasier. If they tasted the same I'd choose waffles every time.

Waffles, I like the crunchy texture over that of pancakes. then again, I don't care for cake, either, so...

Depends, are we talking frozen waffles or fresh Belgian waffles? If it's frozen waffles, then I prefer those. They don't soak in the syrup when you pour it on. If it's fresh waffles, I prefer pancakes because it's easier to put toppings on that aren't syrup. My family has this awesome homemade cream cheese and brown sugar topping that makes it taste like you're eating a cheesecake. You can't put it on waffles too easily, you end up with too much of it in the little squares and you feel like you're just eating straight cream cheese topping.

You'd have to be some sort of potato to prefer pancakes

Damn it, now you've got me wanting potato pancakes. They don't sell produce here at the college until Thursday, and it's quite a walk to the nearest non-college store to get some. Now I'm going to be craving these things until then...

Well I'm not too much of a fan of either and I rarely eat them, but I would probably have to go with waffles for me, mostly because I had some Belgian waffles when I was in Belgium and they tasted so great. I got an aunt in Switzerland that makes some pancakes (though they're more like crêpes), and they tasted pretty nice too. Though I generally like the taste of Belgian waffles more lol.
