Dear PureZC Members,

The past few weeks have been challenging for our community, to say the least. The ZC monetization discussions, GitHub ownership disputes, and resultant fallout between former and current developers have placed a heavy burden on PureZC.

For better or worse, it has come to the staff's attention that several members of the community are determined to prolong the conflict against ZC's active developers.

The PureZC staff had previously stated that we would be willing to provide a space for critical developments regarding the ZC developer disputes. However, we no longer believe that the party accusing ZC's current developers of wrongdoing or harm have any valid arguments to present. The developers have reached out to GitHub regarding their policy on organization disputes. Their response is attached.

Thanks for reaching out, and apologies for the substantial delay.

Generally speaking, GitHub policies consider all organization owners to be peers, with equal authority over the organization account and its repositories. With this in mind, the permissions that allowed you to perform the transfer are confirmation that this action was legitimate and authorized.

If there is dispute between administrators, we typically do not intervene or facilitate any action, but rather encourage direct resolution among the parties involved. The only exception to this is if an administrator's account has been compromised, which does not seem to be the case here.
In short, nothing that you've described with regard to the repository transfer sounds like it would constitute a breach of GitHub policies, nor is it likely to result in GitHub taking any action. Please note, of course, that any future legal action (such as copyright disputes) could be a different matter. For example, we may be compelled to comply with a court order if one was issued.

Additionally, if you're aware of any behaviour that you would consider abusive or in breach of our Community Guidelines, we have documentation here on how to report it to our Trust & Safety team.

The developers have also informally consulted a few people experienced with open source licensing, namely the GPL. The consensus is that the reason cited for invoking the termination clause is unfounded. They have also reached out to the Software Freedom Conservancy for a hopefully definitive answer, but have not gotten a response yet.

As a consequence, PureZC staff are no longer willing to platform discussion accusing current developers of malicious intent. We will maintain this position unless serious, well-substantiated, and relevant evidence is presented -- evidence that would bear significant implications for the PureZC community. We remain unconvinced that such evidence will emerge.

PureZC is not meant to be used as a battleground for disputes between former and current developers. We expect our members to resolve any interpersonal conflicts in private and refrain from bringing unnecessary turmoil onto the site. We hope that our community members find this position to be agreeable and justifiable for preserving the integrity of the community.

okay but how will this affect lebron's legacy?

I just showed back up a couple days ago, so I only caught the tail end of this whole thing, but I'm glad things seem to be dying down again. Kind of hard to watch people I've gotten to know and respect, even if just online, so at odds - and that's not to say that there aren't some valid grievances and concerns here, either. Just wanted to say I hope we can all move forward productively here, and that the disputes that need hashing out can be, well, hashed out. I'm don't know if that means all that much from someone who's only intermittently here (and basically hasn't been around for any of the big disputes in the last couple years), but I felt I should say it.

 

In any case, I think the work the current devs have been doing is pretty fantastic. I'm not caught up on it all, but what I've seen is great.

Hope I'm not overstepping my bounds, but couldn't you arrange return the repo to the original Organization and fork it to your own?  Isn't that what would end the dispute?

 

Of course AGN isn't innocent either, deadnaming one of the devs (and even defaming her now).

 

(That said, I wish I knew who was squatting on the organization name I need...)
