Well, I have some bad news. Map of the Month is dead forever.

See, the definition of dead used to be "dead", but the definition for it died, so I had to replace it with a different definition. I liked "doing good and well with a nice and healthy six entries". That's a lot less morbid of a definition, I think.

I'm not very good at coming up with jokes. icon_frown.gif Thanks to everyone who submitted for helping keep this contest afloat, and here's hoping that we'll be able to support future contests!

Most of them were great, but of I voted for Gonken.

Edit: I hadn't been able to vote for Gonken yet, then I took another look at Kurt's map, so I voted for him.

Nulled, since I'm in the competition. But were I not, my vote would have gone to Hubydweyer. Really great map right there.

I read that first line and got suddenly depressed... Then I read the rest of it and, well... I was honestly worried about what would happen to MotM for a while, that was mean!

Anyways, I'm in the contest, so I nulled my vote. Still, if I had voted for somebody (myself not included), I'd have probably voted for Gonken. I really like Minish Cap graphics, and I need to learn how to pattern light and dark colored grass tiles well.

As for the other maps, I liked Hubydweyer's, but I had seen it before for one thing. It did come in a close second, though. Russ's map was pretty good, but I've kind of got a thing against technicolor trees. I don't know why, but I feel that they should all be similar in color. I mean, if you look outside, where would you see bright blue and orange trees? (That, and I've played the quest and spent a long time lost there! I might be just a bit biased, sorry!)

Jared's map wasn't bad, and I really like the palette and how well the LttP tiles blend with the GBC tiles. However, there's a place near the middle where some grey wall tiles transition to brown cliff tiles that looks off to me. I tried to ignore it, but for some strange reason it just kept drawing my eye in anyways.

Finally, Geoffrey's map was unique in how it's 2D, and I really like those when done well. Unfortunately, when I see a map, I try to imagine how it would play out in-game. I cannot see anything resembling a starting point or a route a player would be supposed to take or anything. I would guess it's something like "hit all the crystals", but it's a bit of a turnoff in the same way how I didn't like the original Metroid game. I liked the sequels, but the original was just too confusing.

I probably should have said this before, but here it is.

Kurt91, I think what you are doing with your tileset is great.
You went through all the trouble of enhancing all of those GB tiles, and for that, somebody has to give you credit.

So far, your tileset looks great, keep it up man. icon_thumbsup.gif

(Oh, map is good too.)

The choice of colors and the fantastic mood they created led me to vote for Russ.

Same here. It reminds me a little of your ruined village from Lost Isle.

I believe I've already said how much I love Somewhere in Between. It was pretty much a no-brainer which one to choose. All the maps this month are pretty good though.

Believe it or not, there is a bit of a route; if you do it well, you will never need to retrace your steps. But you may not like it, as it is not a definite route.

Got any reasoning? I would definitely enjoy having some criticism to build from.

I voted for Huby's, I just liked the atmosphere and appearance of it. I would have picked Russ's second. The rest are pretty good, and Geoffrey's is definitely unique. Good turnout this month.
