can somebody help me make an NPC? i want to have an octorock standing in my graveyard, like this

all i know what to do is put it there and the one tutorial that has it is really confusing. so anyone out there that can make an easy explanation please do so

Care to clarify a bit? What do you want to do? Just place him on the screen? Or make him talk?

Ahh, I just read you post a little more thoroughly, I'll edit this post with a tutorial..

OK, here is a primitive way of making an NPC talk, this is also my way, there are other ways, but this is the way I find easiest.

OK, so here is a screen, we have Link(darknut) and the NPC(octorok). The little X in front of the Octorok represents a warp, set the warp to warp Link to a different screen with the message string on it.

Here is the different screen you warp to, normally, I put a Link replacement in front of the sprite to make Link face forward to the sprite, and then the REAL Link is invisible in the corner. As soon as the message string is finished, Link can move down to activate a side warp to...

the original room just in front of the original warp.

A few things you want to make sure of when doing a message string like this is to...

1: Have the warp be a stair warp
2: Make sure the level assigned to the Dmap is greater than 0.

There is another way in which you set the warp in front of the NPC be a direct warp, which warps Link to the screen, but in front of the NPC and not invisible, and then there are direct warps on all sides of Link. I don't use this method much.

I'm sure someone else will be able to provide a better tutorial than me.

Or you can make it like this:

In your screen with the person like this, you make a direct warp where the X is.

And then you make the direct warp go to this screen. (A different one but looks the exact same, where you have a sting going.) At this screen if you made it a direct warp then Link will end up right where he warped from in the first screen.

So now when the string ends you walk into one of those direct warps and it takes you back to the original screen.

Now you can also use FFCs and the script that pkmnfrk made. The link is here. and with that you can walk up to the guy and press A to have him talk. Those are only in the newer 2.5 builds though and can't be used in 2.10 or older.

i got the warp to work but he still ain't talkin... i guess i must be really stupid stupid icon_whap.gif

Did you make the string and set the message string? Also on the screen you are onset the guy to fire so that he is invisible. In the DMap settings, go to flags and turn off the one that says, "Special rooms and guys are in caves only."

Or, if you're not using 2.11-2.5, you need to go to Dmap settings and make sure you have the level number set higher than 0.

Oh yeah forgot about that little part. Not only do I forget about telling people that but I seem to forget it all the time also. >_<

How do i make the fire invisable? that was probably my problem cause i dont know how to do that

you need to delete his tile, I think it is somewhere on page 0.

You have to select the quest rule "no guy fires"
