Oh crap, SSBB will lose online play? I wonder how this will affect Project M. o.o

Also, some of the games losing the internet seem to be a bad move. I mean, if I recall correctly, I could be wrong though, but didn't Mario Kart Wii have like the best online play on the Wii system?

Also, a loooooot of those pokemon game are going to be screwed over, which kinda sucks.

Shouldn't this be in General Entertainment?  Anyway , I think DQ9 will suffer the most from this, since it will be impossible to get some pieces of equipment and legacy maps at that point.

Oh ok.  I will ask staff to move this.

I got it.

Meanwhile, can't honestly say I'm too bothered by this, but it does suck. Guess I'll have to do some last online Brawls before it's closed down, and look forward to the next Smash Bros. Come to think of it, they ought to have waited for the next Smash's release before shutting down Brawl's servers...

Well, crud. I still enjoy a session of Brawl or Animal Crossing with friends who live long distances. Not to mention all of the Global Trade Stations in Pokemon are screwed. I get that they want to encourage people to buy the new systems but eff. This honestly makes me less inclined to invest if it's just going to be rendered completely obsolete in a couple years. Nnngngnr.

C'mon, Nintendo. Not cool.

Also, anyone using Pokecheck for any of the DS Pokemon games won't be able to after the above date.  Hozu confirmed it.

This is not a bad move. My bet is that there's not enough players to justify keeping the servers up and running. I will agree that they should perhaps have kept the servers for some of the more recent titles on for a little longer, but again, they're probably looking at some numbers that we do not have.

What numbers? The bad PR more than offsets the money saved from shutting off servers.

Numbers, as in the amount of players still using those services. I'm assuming it's pretty low. Besides, what bad PR? I don't see any articles bad mouthing Nintendo for shutting down servers for services that most of which are many, many years old. This is to be expected when you've got online functionality tied to your system or game. Servers get shut down all the time, and you can't expect Nintendo to keep paying bills for something that does not see enough use. I mean, that has to be why they're shutting them down, if people were actually using them often enough I'm sure they would keep them up longer.

This is nothing to complain about.

Hmm ... This concerns me, because I'm playing Pokemon White and Black right now. I'm curious what exactly qualifies as "online features." Can I still use the union room (the left counter for local trading/battling)? I mean, that doesn't use a Nintendo server, right? What about the GTS? It's not exclusive to the DS games, so would it still operate? I'd think only the center counter would be affected ...  Also, I assume it's still possible to use the 3DS apps to transfer pokemon from older games to X and Y?

Ultimately, this highlights a big reason why I dislike downloadable content for video games. When these things shut down, you're no longer able to enjoy the complete game anymore, ever. And then there are MMO's, which shut down and become completely impossible to play. For someone who grew up with completely self contained games I could pull off a shelf and find everything in, this takes some getting used to.

Any service within the game that you have to connect to using the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection (GTS, online battle tower, etc) will cease to function.

Sure there is. I can complain about not being able to play Mario Kart Wii online, the best version of Mario Kart.

This bothers me. Super Smash Bros. Brawl had a ton of people playing online, and so did the Pokemon games...so why are they on the list?
