NJF Plays Castlevania: Bloodlines
Genre: Action, Platformer.
Released on the Sega Genesis in 1994.
Developed and Published by Konami.
Description:
Castlevania: Bloodlines is the next great Castlevania the series needed since Castlevania IV and would be one of the final good Castlevania games that used the action platformer format before the series took on the Metroidvania approach seen in Symphony of the Night. Being the only Castlevania released on the Sega Genesis, it turned out to be a very strong entry and became one of Sega Genesis' best games. Though easier than it's predecessors, this entry may turn some fans off due to introducing limited continues. It is certainly a game worth trying if you like Castlevania 1, 3, and 4 and are looking for a fun new entry to play in that style that isn't Dracula X (Sorry, but Dracula X is horrible... I can't even explain how horrible that game is).
The game follows John Morris and Eric Lecarde as they try to prevent a notorious vampire Elizabeth Bartley who's incited World War 1 to create enough bloodshed to be used as a sacrifice resurrect her Uncle Dracula. Plotwise, this game strays a little from your typical Belmont family quest. But any fan of the Metroidvania's are probably already used to this.
Despite limited continues, this game is a worthy entry to try and beat, and I feel the bosses are superior to all the other classic Castlevanias. If limited continues don't bother you, give this game a shot, you'll love it.
