That's it, I've had it. Every single video editing software I've installed has either crashed my computer, or been inadequate to my editing needs. Windows Movie Maker (both the original and Live editions) and Cyberlink Powerdirector (both versions 7 and 8 ) both crashed, and I tried all of the options in the stickied thread here and they've either crashed, refused to install at all, or have not had the features I need it to have.

All I want is an editor that can slow down and speed up .AVI clips, without reducing (or removing) quality, sync an MP3 (audio track) with the video track, and be able to add subtitles! Lots of programs should have that, right? But no, they either all crash, or they won't slow down or speed up the video clips properly (I tried VideoPad, and when you slow clips down, it makes the screen flicker black non-stop).

If I'm unable to find something so simple, then my no-death no-save playthrough of Legend of Zelda will never make it to YouTube, EVEN THOUGH I have the 15 .AVI files right here. I want to stab something and bask in its scream, I'm so livid.

VirtualDub is what I use. I don't know if it can handle subtitles, but it's pretty efficient at minor stuff, like changing the speed, cropping, appending files, applying codecs, and adding other audio tracks. I've never had any problems with it.

Camtasia Studio 6 has a speed up and speed down clip editing. Camtasia 7 doesn't, though, so make sure it says 6 on there.

It can't do fades, can it? I'm really hoping for one that can do fades.

Camtasia? ...I thought that was a screen recorder, like CamStudio is. icon_dead.gif Why do they make things so confusing...

I'll check it out (again), though.

Camtasia does both video editing and capturing so you're covered there, though it doesn't seem to do well with ZC from my experiences. icon_frown.gif

Yeah you have to window it to get it to work right. Otherwise you better be good as window zooming in Camtasia.

Yesh, Camtasia Studio does editing too. Not just window recording, but video editing too. I use it on my Let's Plays. Check my youtube page for results. I <3 it's 720p and 1080p encoding and exporting settings.

It has a smallish library of simple filters, but I don't think it does fades. Generally I hardly do any post-processing on videos so I haven't played with it too much.

With the crashes, I don't think it's anything to do with the software itself. It sounds like your RAM isn't sufficient for the software. Obviously RAM is a bit of an investment for your computer if you plan on getting the good stuff, but if you want to use the video editors that fit your needs you may want to think about buying more RAM (or large RAM, if your motherboard already has all the RAM you can fit it with).

Anyway, my PC is slow to begin with, so I never use it for video or audio editing. That's what I have a Mac for, anyway, so I generally use iMovie '09, which is good despite its lack of the split screen effect that made it's old versions so appealing.

Try videopad video editor. The preview screen shows a preview of your movie in the quality that will best fit your computer without downgrading the quality of you final video. It can save to 1080p witch is pretty good if you ask me. It also has many cool effects and trasitions (and you can download additional some effects pakages that you have to pay for). The best part ITS FREE! The effects you can do it WAY better than windows movie maker and you can create videos with increadible acuracy.
