well, motherboard wise, this one from abit (
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813127015 ) looks pretty decent! It supports the newest processors, and has PCIe16,PCIe, and 3 PCI slots as well as up to 4 GB of DDR2667MHz RAM. It's got Intel north and south bridges as well as the onboard AC97 codec (Easily supported).
Processor wise,
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16819115014 looks good. It's LGA 775, Core 2 Duo (E4400) so it's 2.0GHz 64 bits. It's the same one in the new iMacs, so it's pretty speedy.
You've got the HDD, as for memory:
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16820227118 that looks to be good. 2 GB, (2x1GB) it's a good deal, and is the fastest for your motherboard (DDR2 667MHz)..
Graphics card wise:
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16814125070It seems a bit high end, but it's got support for SLI, a big resolution, and OpenGL 2.0. It's 256MB video memory, and the 8600 is a good card. I'd recommend it. (Plus AIGXL+Compiz is a little demanding on *nix)
-- lemme get to class, I'll edit this later --
OK, in class. Now.. audio card / wireless / CD/DVD etc.
Well, audio card wise, I'd recommend Creative. For $27
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16829102003it's a 7.1ch Audigy. It's probably quite decent. As for if you want WiFi, it depends on whether you have a certain router (i.e. Linksys Router / Linksys cards... but the mobo comes with ethernet out, so not to worry. Just tell me in case you need one. As for DVD / CD Combo drives..
http://www.newegg.co...N82E16827152058That burns DVD up to Dual Layer, and CDs too.. reads CDs and DVDs. So it's the catch-all but no HD (BD/HD-DVD).. so it's pretty nice. Cheap too!
So that's RAM, HDD, Mobo, CPU, Audio, GFx, DVD. Well, what else do you need? If you need a WiFi card, just say it.
