Ok. Currently I am stuck with my moms macintosh as my only computer, and while it's not bad, I can't use it for gaming, Zc, or anything execpt slow internet and photoshop. Also, I can't really do much to it, as my mom would kill me if I touched anything outside my folder.

SO, I'm trying to save up money for a new computer, though I'm not sure what the best route is. My dream would be to be able to get one of those 2000$ Laptops with 160+GB, however, after doing the math that would take me... about a year and a half to do (after taking away money for college and pocket change) which is an annoyingly long time from now. I'm looking for a cheaper alternative, and am willing to lower my standards as long as the computer can do the following:
  • Run Zelda Classic
  • Run Photoshop
  • Run Limewire and be able to hold a decent amount of music and images without any serious lag.
  • Run (at the least) Warcraft III, preferablly better games, again without any serious lag.

So I've figured that I've got two options. I can either try to find a computer for at the very most 1200$ that can do all that, (preferably cheaper), or I can attempt to seperate parts of a computer and make one that can do all that.

Right now, I've got in my posession a working moniter, and two complete towers, one that I used to use (in those grand ol days) that now has a broken hard drive, and another one I got from my aunt. As far as I know, the only part that doesn't work is one of the hard drives. Tomorrow (or tonight if I'm feelign lucky) I'm going to transfer over my aunts hard drive and see if it will work in my old one. Both are pretty old, but I'm sure if anyone needs details on the parts I can figure it out.

So my questions can be summarized to this:

What is the cheapest computer (or laptop icon_naughty.gif) that could do all of the requirments above?
Would it be cheaper to buy a computer (or laptop icon_naughty.gif), or just build one?
If build one, wha should I go out and look for?

I ask you, mainly because I don't trust my own research to deliver results nearly as good. Thank in advance. icon_kawaii.gif

1. Depends on the Operating System. If you're on Vista, it'll require more. If you're on XP, a 2GHz dual-core processor would probably be more than enough, coupled with at least 1GB of RAM. So, in answer to your question, I would say a cheap $500-$600 desktop would be enough for you. icon_wink.gif Laptops would probably run around $700-$800 to get similar power.

2. Depends again. Desktops are good to build. You can save several hundred dollars sometimes. Laptops, meh. Just buy one of them from a company.

3. Well, I would just suggest being patient and looking around all of the online sites(you have to buy online, Best Buy and similar places are too expensive for computer parts) for bargains. It may take a little while to get something you'll like, but it'll be worth it in the end. icon_wink.gif
