I have decided that an additional rule is needed in enforcing the quality of the grammar used in the posts on this message board. When posting, please refrain from using shorthand such as "u", "r", "c", "l8r", "4", and all the rest. This is not an AOL chatroom. We wish to display signs of intelligent life to all of our users, especially unregistered, as they may not register after reading posts that go like "thats gr8 lol i cant wait 2 c ur qst it looks lik fun." On top of that, I myself, as well as the rest of the staff in general, get tired of reading that crap.

Remember, if we're going to take the time to read your messages, you can take the time (even though it's less than a fraction of a second) to correctly spell words.

Upon three recorded instances of use of such shorthand, the offending user will be warned for rule violations.

Please remember that this rule does not affect spelling errors. While we encourage attentive spelling, don't feel like you're going to be in trouble for making a spelling error (if that were the case, nearly everybody would be banned by now). This rule only applies to deliberate shorthand as explained above.

Good day.

Not to quibble with Staff, but how about stuff like:

ROTFL (Rolling on the floor laughing)
RTFM (Read the Fine Material) and certainly
GNU (Oops that one is recursive so it would go on forever) ?

There is a whole body of acronyms out there that have a good bit of heritage. Maybe they would be OK because they are acronymns?

Acronyms such as that would probably fine. It's the 4 = for and gr8 = great and u = you that I think WB doesn't like.

The ones WB mentioned could be done in 3-5 characters; yours require about 20-40 and an abbreviation is very handy. icon_razz.gif

Acronyms are perfectly fine. Happyman summed it up perfectly.

We change the rules constantly to adapt to new abuses of various things. One solid set of rules never works on ever changing people.

No. "thx" is short hand. It should take about half a second to type a six letter word like thanks.
