Here's an example from mine and Evan's quest Despair.

IPB Image

I used photoshop for the Despair text and ripped the background from a game. The Press Down is now in the middle of the screen. I would either suggest the Zelda text that I used (in the database) or the Neo OoT Title screen recently submitted by Linkus.

You reduce it to 16 colors in a program (I use photoshop.) Then you grab the palette in ZQ and assign it to a level palette sheet. Quest -> Graphics -> Palettes -> Levels and select an empty one and hit "grab." Then select the background image and use that level palette in the DMap of the title screen.

Ok let's start with this image:
IPB Image

Now, this image has 32 colors in it, something that ZC can not handle (unless you use 8 bit but thats a whole different thing to learn.) Also note this image is 239 x 147 when the dimension of a screen on ZC is 256 x176. Now you will need a photo editing software that can change the colors from 32 to 16. If you can't find one you can ask someone to do it, I'd be happy to.

So now I opened this up in photoshop, reduced the colors to 16 and made the size fit as best as I could to 256x 176.
IPB Image

Open ZQ and go to Quest -> Graphics -> Palettes -> Levels, and select an empty one. You should be here:
IPB Image

Hit "grab" and select the background image wherever you saved it at. Select the row of colors and hit OK. Then put the background onto the tile sheet and combo it (this is the big time waster.) Now you have a screen with the background. But when you are making the screen press F4 and choose the palette sheet that we made earlier that has the pictures colors on it.

Now that the screen is made make a DMap for the map the screen is on and under "Appearance" choose the palette sheet we made earlier. Now go to Data -> Screen Data and check "No Subscreen" and "Invisible Link."

People then usually make Link start in a corner surrounded by solid combos except for one direction that leads to a side of the screen. Whatever side that is make a side warp to the start of the overworld or wherever you want. Ask more questions if you need to, takes awhile to get a hold of.

EDIT: Oh, and always remember to credit where you got the image from! That image was ripped by ?Unknown? from The Spriter's Resource and was ripped from Final Fantasy 6.

That's because the palette is specifically made for the background. If you want other things to look right, you have to either recolor them or copy their CSet into your custom palette.
