Sometime in the near future (possibly tomorrow), the forums will be pruned.

Pruning (for those that don't know) basically involves deleting older posts to keep the database size down. This shouldn't affect you much unless you love reading through the forum's history. The threads that will be removed will be from a year or two ago. The only exception comes from Derisory Substance. All threads older than one month will be pruned from that forum. A few forums will not be pruned, including Quest Project forums.

If you have any questions about this, feel free to ask. icon_smile.gif

Oh noes. The old threads will be gone. Some old interesting gems will be surely lost... icon_frown.gif

But of course the pruning is good because there's no unlimited space. And if it makes PZC run any faster, it's great, though in my opinion PZC runs fast enough currently but whatever...

This sounds good. icon_smile.gif Only one thing, will this affect our post count in any way?

No. It shouldn't. Unlike message board software such as vB, post count on IPB doesn't link directly to the posts. icon_wink.gif

Will you be able to mass-archive all the old topics to some other place, in a similar fashion? Just curious.

Not that I know of. Wild Bill made a backup of the database, though. icon_shrug.gif

There's always archive.org... though it doesn't get every single topic (and just tends to be one page of the ones that do get archived). icon_shrug.gif

I've got a backup of the database as of yesterday, so all the posts will still exist, and I could possibly generate an archive of them at some time.

I think this should lower post count, just to scare the post count mongers. icon_kawaii.gif

I think the first 25 or so topics ever on the forums should stay for obvious reasons.

I don't think post count will lower and if it does then I'm that much further from my custom tile icon_cry.gif.

I don't post much, so my posts shouldn't be harmed by too much. I'm a quiet guy and I rarely post, because I'm too busy with life.
