Windows 7 is great, anyone who wants to claim otherwise are Mac- or Linux-fanboys. Cause it really is a whole lot better than their previous shit. Sadly, Windows 8 does not seem to be picking up the reins...

Anyway, I've never payed for an operating system in my life, and I never will. I've already paid for the computer, and while I realize it's not the same people making them, I think that in today's world, having an OS is literally required, and thus it should simply be a right. The same goes for the Internet, but seeing as the world is not at all how I want it to be, neither is free. Pirates, saving lives.

Anyway, 7 is better than XP in my opinion. Smoother, faster, easier to use, less problems. These are all things that I do not associate with Microsoft, yet I think they nailed 7.

Yes windows 7 is great. I'll admit that it is. its 100% better then the previous Windows Vista.
Vista it self seemed like it was unpolished it took to much ram to run, I mean too much ram what OS ever needs to use 700MB of ram just on idle?

And most people who claim that it ain't isn't always Linux-fanboys or mac user's. there is some old time windows user's that claims windows 7 sucks. I know that. I used to be that way, But after awhile of using it I've changed my mind about 7. It has to be one Microsoft's best OS's in a long time since 98 and XP.

And Windows 8... I see its designed to fail. the metro interface is just one of the worst things ever. I mean why Microsoft even think about removing the desktop...and Start button. that was a dumb a** move if you ask me...

Anyway, the metro interface is awesome, and incredibly easy to use. On a touch-interface. It works on my Windows Phone, but I don't want to control it using a mouse and a keyboard. That's the problem, not the interface itself.

Well it seems it might be awesome for a tablet PC. but not very awesome for a desktop user.
As a desktop user I just see windows 8 as a failure... Its much too focused to tablet PC's. Which is not a bad thing. but if Microsoft is hoping to push 8 on to desktop computers it just seems dumb. Well unless you have a touchscreen computer <.<.

Yeah. The day you can install any OS on any tablet... that's the day I'll look into Windows 8. Remember back when it was newly announced, they showed an alternative menu that looked more or less like Windows 7, with the start bar and everything? I'm hoping that they'll at some point incorporate that as an option, though you're probably gonna have to rely on modders to get that working.

Unless I am somehow wrong about this, and it turns out 8 is actually a fantastic OS for desktop, but it really doesn't look like I am.

Yes 7 does work quite different then XP. I took me awhile to get used to the task bar... They called this a super bar huh? eh.

You can change it to work like the XP/Vista task bar. That's what I did. icon_razz.gif

Just to throw in my two cents, I love Windows 7, aside from the new task bar which I can't stand (but it's about a three minute fix to make it act like the old one, so no biggie). Aside from that, I really have a hard time thinking of complaints. I guess what TS said about writing to the program files is kinda annoying, but really not that bad altogether.

And then Windows 8... I don't know what they're smoking, but I refuse to buy that steaming pile of crap. The moment support for Windows 7 runs out is the moment I switch to Linux.

I don't know I don't like tablets to much. I think I'll just stick to desktops.

If I remember correctly the Windows 8 Developers Preview. had a option in the registry you could change, to have the plain Windows 7 desktop. But right now in the consumers Preview (The one that's on Microsoft.com right now).
It seems they completely removed that ability to change the value of the registry key to get the old desktop back.
Trust me I tried it on the Consumers Preview and it does not work anymore.

Most likely Microsoft will not incorporate a normal desktop. So we will have to rely on modders to get the job done.
So far I heard that someone found out how to have the Windows 7 explorer on Windows 8. to give you the standard desktop with the task bar and start menu.
I don't know how well it works. I'll have to test it out and see if it really works.

Yeah, I don't know what they are smoking... Maybe tablets? icon_deformed.gif I don't think you'll have to go to Linux anytime soon.
I also read that they are working on the next Version of windows now... Well they split the Windows team in two.
and one team is working on Windows 9. and the other one is working on windows Blue, Which is something For windows 8.

It's actually pretty easy to do. First, unpin all the stuff from the taskbar. Right click on the taskbar, go to properties, check "Use small icons", but uncheck the other two options there. For the taskbar buttons list, "Combine when taskbar is full". Now, go to your folder (Start->*your user name*, it's the top right option. Create a new folder there called "Quick launch". Put any shortcuts you want in there. Right click the taskbar and go to properties again. Under toolbars, there should be an option for quick launch now. Check it. And viola. If you really want to be authentic, you can also download the "show desktop" and "switch between windows" buttons here. If you did that all right, the final result should look something like this. Nice and organized, and most importantly, not the Windows 7 taskbar. icon_razz.gif

I don't really care what anyone says, the 7 toolbar is literally ten times better than the old taskbar. It's so much easier to work with, it's nicer to look at, and easily customizable. icon_shrug.gif
