This is intended as part of a series of tutorials on how to set up some of the various features which people might use in 2.55.
I will include screenshots as much as I can.
This tutorial is on how to set up a room where you can hide an item which requires a specific item to obtain.

Here's what you will need.

1. A combo where the item is hidden.
2. A combo where you have obtained the item.
3. An item that triggers the combo.

Be sure to place the first and second combo next to each other.

First, set up the combo.
On Triggers, Weapons; select the weapon that triggers the item.
These should be unique to this type of combo.

Next, under Triggers, Effect, set Combo Change to 1.

Finally set up Triggers, States/Spawning.
Set the spawn item to whatever item you want to spawn.
Check the box Spawns Special Item.
This prevents the item from spawning again after the combo has been triggered.

You will have to do this for any combo you wish to have spawn a different item.
If you want to be able to dig things up and have an item set spawn, do the following instead,
Under Triggers, States/Spawning set Spawn Item to the negative value of whatever dropset you want to use.
Don't check the box Spawns Special Item.

For added functionality, you may want to check the following boxes.
Spawned Item Auto-collects and Hold Up Item are pretty nice.

To have the item make a noise when you use it on the combo do the following.
Under the General tab, find SFX and disappears to make a noise of your choice.

While you can technically use any item type that makes a weapon, certain varieties are recommended for now.
Sword, wand and hammer may produce the best results.
You can actually give the weapon a special weapon type.
Under Data, Weapon Data, select a weapon type different from whatever it normally is.

It isn't necessary to set up the room type or special item to get this to work.

That's it! If you have the proper graphics and sounds, you now have a working shovel!
