Probably, nothing is ubuntu specific as far as I know. Try it and report back.

I think the link got borked from the forum post or something. Just grab the latest nightly - updated the link to point to that.

I need help. I recently downloaded the .tar.gz file for the latest 2.55 alpha release, since I'm running an Ubuntu 20.04 system. However, after unpacking, neither the zelda nor the zlauncher shared libraries launch.They give me the following error message
/home/***/Media/Games/Zelda Classic/zelda: error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Can anyone help me with this?

You need to have ssl installed. This will probably do:
```
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install libssl1.0.0 libssl-dev
```

The terminal told me this:
Package libssl1.0.0 is not available, but is referred to by another package. This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or is only available from another source

Try getting version 3 of libssl.
sudo apt-get install libssl3
A fresh install of Ubuntu has this already so this is somewhat concerning.
If it doesn't let you get v3, then you might need to try libssl1.1

I actually already tried both of these. This distro (which isn't actually Ubuntu, it's just based on it) is based on 20.04, AKA Focal. As far as I could tell, libssl3 is not available on the Focal repositories. As for libssl1.1, I already had it installed before I even tried to run this.

It looks like the current version is built for 22.04. Will keep you posted.

libssl is no longer needed since nightly-2023-06-03 (after alpha 113)

Does anybody have any feedback or reviews about this Linux-specific build of ZC? I've found the information to be incredibly sparse about the ZC Linux port, which is why I ended up just going with the Windows version in Wine.
In Wine, ZC works pretty well except for a few nagging issues. Specifically, the CPU usage is slightly higher than running in windows and (unlike in Windows) doesn't stop when I pause or enter the menu. You also have to jump through some hoops to get any midis to play in quests, and various 2.55 alpha builds I've tried have an annoying tendency to hang on the auto-save when shutting down.
I'm really curious if this release will run better than the windows version in wine, or if, as I've found to usually be the case with Linux ports, the port leads to a can of worms and ends up introducing new issues.

Not much to do but try it and see if it's better. As the lead dev of the program, I have no idea- as I only use Windows. Only one of our devs (connor from above) actually manages this build, and far more users use Windows builds than anything else, so platform-specific issues for non-windows builds tend to go unreported longer. (No way for us to fix bugs we don't know exist, sadly- but you can certainly report any you find in the dev server)
