Intro
What? Dan, are you crazy? A video let's play of an RPG?
Yep. It's one of, if not my absolute favourite RPGs. As a result, I know this game pretty darn well, and I should be able to get through it rather gracefully. Plus, I'm confident in my ability to take out all the boring crap like grinding.
Okay, fine. What's your plan for this LP?
While it sounds ambitious, I intend to cover just about everything, ranging from all the endings and post games as well as obtaining the best gear. The only thing I don't think I'll really be doing it getting to level 9999.
Now let's get the meat and potatoes of the game.

Characters
(Will be updated as progress is made.)
Laharl
Our main character. He's the prince of the Netherworld, son of the late king Krichevskoy. An arrogant demon who will stop at nothing to show that he is the most evil and powerful of the demons. Fairly good with most any melee weapon. But that won't matter much since I don't really plan to use hero characters.
Etna
Vassal of Laharl as well as the late Overlord. A sneaky and cunning demon who worked for the late Overlord. She's fairly carefree, however it can be difficult to tell what her intentions are. She's proficient in axes and spears.
Vyers Mid-Boss
A sassy demon who thinks a little too highly of himself and always has an excuse for losing. He also seems to like to use random French words to appear more sophisticated. Get used to seeing him; he's a recurring character.
Flonne
An angel assassin sent to kill king Krischevskoy by the seraph. A rather happy girl who seems to be a little...different. Obsessed with the concept of love and seem bent on proving that demons are capable of love. Always has her head in the clouds.
Lamington
The Seraph of Celestia. Seems to be calm and collected with his thoughts, though we don't really know about much else. Seems to have some sort of secretive plans going on....
Vulcanus
A scary looking archangel who loathes the Netherworld and believes all demons are rotten creatures. Has a plan running with the human race. Has nothing but malevolent intentions.
Captain Gordon
A hero from Earth sent to defeat the Overlord. While he is a heroic figure, he can be very stupid and seems kind of oblivious to a lot of things, but his heart is definitely in the right place.
Jennifer
Gordon's sidekick who is a genius and also a kind person. She's loyal to Gordon and will help him through all his adventures. Also Carter's adopted daughter.
Thursday
Jennifer's creation and a incredibly awesome robot. Kind of why it's labelled 'Super Robot'. A strong fighter who never gives up.
General Carter
A manipulative man who sent Gordon to the Netherworld planning to take it over for the human race.
Kurtis
Gordon's supposed rival and other Defender of Earth. He keeps a cool head and does what it takes to get his mission done. He lost his family and most of his body in a terrorist attack. He now lives his life as a cyborg.

Story
(Will be updated as progress is made)
Episode 1: Prince of the Netherworld
We begin this tale with the death of the Overlord, king Krichevskoy. As this news spreads through the Netherworld, demons begin to see this as a chance to seize the throne and become crowned the Overlord.
Fast forward two years. Laharl, prince of the Netherworld, is asleep with Etna trying to wake him through many...unique...means. (There were drills, guns and other weapons involved) After finally awakening, Laharl is given news that not only is his father dead, but that demons are trying to take his rightful spot on the throne, not to mention that he had been asleep for 2 full years. Seeking to put all these demons in their place, he sets out with Etna by his side to claim the throne for himself. To start, he raids a castle owned by a demon names Vyers and loots the place while also beating the man of the house himself.
Episode 2: Enter Flonne
Celestia, the world of angels. Within this place, an angel trainee known as Flonne is given orders by the seraph (I would imagine this is the equivalent to the king there) Lamington to kill the overlord of the Netherworld, king Krichevskoy.
Once there, she fails to assassinate who she thought was the overlord (Laharl) and runs from the scene. Laharl gathers his vassals and goes to chase her down. After cornering her, she summons a dragon to fight for her. However, once defeated she discovers that her target died two years ago, and that her target was the father of Laharl.
Upon hearing Laharl's claim that demons have no love, she decides to join the party to see whether or not demons truly have love. And if necessary, she will carry out her original mission with a new target.
Episode 3: A Hint of Kindness
It's the Prinnies' payday! Because Laharl is incredibly stingy (would explain why, while playing a prince, you don't have very much money. ) he refuses to pay for it himself. So, he decides to go loot someone else's place.
Upon beating up the man of the house (Hoggmeiser), Porkmeister tries to stop Laharl from killing his father. Flonne then explains to Laharl that this is love. Laharl has a change of heart and spares Hoggmeiser and takes most of his stuff as opposed to everything.
Episode 4: Gift from an Angel
Vulcanus decides to enter the Netherworld to check on Flonne with the idea that she's using demons to take over the Netherworld. Upon finding her asleep, he takes a special pendant from her that allows her to live in the Netherworld and rids of it after having it burn his hand. (The pendant punishes those with a wicked heart)
In the morning, Flonne begs Laharl to find this pendant as if it isn't found, she will die. After offering a reward, Laharl agrees and sets out to find the pendant. They meet Mid-Boss who has the pendant, though will not hand it over. Laharl decides that beating him up and taking it by force is the way to go. However, the fight causes Mid-Boss to drop it in a river of lava, though Laharl jumps in to grab it.
Laharl returns the pendant, hoping for something good, but instead receives a thank you. Flonne describes the reward as the good feeling of doing something kind for another person.
Episode 5: Etna's Secret
Etna and Flonne are found in the castle halls laughing over an embarrassing photo of Laharl. When Laharl comes around, he finds a note written on the back that says if he doesn't go to a place known as Jotunheim, these pictures will be spread throughout the Netherworld and that the sender wishes to contend for Overlordship. In an attempt to keep his image, he goes knowing that it's a trap.
Upon entry, Laharl is confronted by his two weaknesses: optimism and sexy women. The villain reveals himself as Maderas, a demon who was banished from the castle many years ago for stealing Krichevskoy's favourite snack - black pretzels. He also reveals that Etna was his loyal servant to carry out this plan. However, Etna turns around and unveils her plans to take Maderas down, using Laharl as bait. After beating Maderas, he joins the party.
Episode 6: Laharl's Challenge
Laharl issues a challenge to all those who wish to become the Ovelord: defeat Laharl upon his way to the Heart of Evil in Blair Forest and they will become the Overlord. However, if Laharl reaches the Heart of Evil, he will become the Overlord.
His travels to the Heart of Evil lead him through many adversaries including an indecisive demon slayer, the Prinny Squad, an Overlord of another Netherworld, the Prism Rangers and even good ol' Midboss. However, he reaches his destination and claims the title of Overlord for himself.
Episode 7: Of Being an Overlord
Now that he is the Overlord, Laharl spends his time laughing about until he is given a seemingly mundane task of finding a boy's pets. The boy (Aramis) was brought in by Etna, and while Laharl is reluctant to do so at first, Etna is quick to convince him.
They find these 'pets' are actually zombies and proceed to beat them up and hand them back to Aramis, but not after fighting the strongest zombie of them all. What makes it so strong? Find out for yourself.
Episode 8: Reincarnation
The prinnies run off for unknown reasons. Big sis prinny is among them, with Flonne noticing that she was the one that gave her medicine when she lost her pendant. Laharl, upset with the prinnies running away, chases after them.
He gets into a fight with Flonne over various issue. Flonne learns from Etna that Laharl's mother gave her life to save Laharl from an illness he had caught. The cure being the life of someone that loved him, explaining why Laharl loathes love so much.
Later Laharl finds the prinnies being prepared for going to the Red Moon to be reincarnated. He demands that they are returned, claiming that his vassals are not to leave without his permission. After having it explained what is happening (that the prinnies have finally atoned for their sins from their past life as a human) they are able to be reincarnated and start anew.
Big sis prinny is also seen going to the Red Moon, revealing that her sin was taking her life for the sake of her son, essentially revealing that Laharl's mother had been with him the entire time. With a sad departure, the chapter closes.
Episode 9: Captain Gordon - Defender of Earth
Captain Gordon, his sidekick Jennifer and multi purpose robot Thursday prepare for a space voyage to the Netherworld to slay the Overlord. Their ship crashes upon landing though, separating Gordon from Jennifer and Thursday.
Laharl and friends hear of space anomalies in the area and investigate, finding Jennifer and Thursday. After hearing of Gordon, Laharl decides to find and challenge him as his duty of being an Overlord. Once finding Gordon, they have their duel. If Laharl wins, Gordon is to become Laharl's vassal.
Laharl comes on top and had Gordon and his crew become part of his own party.
Episode 10: Angels, Demons and Humans
The crew decide to go on a picnic. Mid-Boss comes in and snatches the basket, leaving them without a lunch. We spend the entire thing getting it back. I'm not kidding.
Also we meet Kurtis on Earth who is supposedly Gordon's rival. But that's about it.
Episode 11: Hero's Will, Overlord's Way
Laharl receives a challenge from the Defender of Earth, though it is clear Gordon had nothing to do with it. It directs Laharl to the Forest of the Dead. Upon entry, they find that this 'Defender of Earth' is the very first one's spirit. While trying to make a first strike, the first DoE strikes Thursday so hard that it damages his circuits to a point where any stress on them could cause Thursday to essentially die and lose all his memories. Despite this, Thursday shows his defender spirit by continuing to fight.
After finally defeating him, Thursday's circuits can't take it and he finally dies. Though the original DoE getting what he wanted, that is to fight with all his might against the Overlord, he is able to pass on from this world. As his final act, he revives Thursday with his memories intact.
Episode 12: War of the Netherworld - Part 1
The Earth Defense Force begins their invasion of the Netherworld with the aid of Kurtis. Gordon believes that the EDF are there to rescue Gordon and his crew. Once Jennifer begins to doubt the EDF's intentions, Gordon dismisses Jennifer from being his assistant, causing her to doubt everything up until this point. At this point, the EDF are given the order to kill Gordon, followed by a message from Carter that outright told them they were being used to secure a route to the Netherworld so that they could take it over for the human race.
Kurtis confronts Gordon only to find that he had become the vassal of the Overlord. After fighting through more EDF soldiers, the party meets Kurtis once again. After fighting him, Kurtis mentions that Jennifer's father awaits her, taking her aboard the Battleship Gargantua. We also find that her (foster) father is Carter himself. This only leaves the party one option - to board the Gargantua to stop the human invasion and take back Jennifer.
Episode 13: War of the Netherworld - Part 2
They board the Gargantua in search of Jennifer. They catch word that Jennifer is being modified, giving them a good reason to rush to her aid. They also get a message from Carter telling them that the invasion of the Netherworld was to provide the people of Earth a new home as Earth could not support people for much longer.
Along the way, they find Kurtis once again. It is revealed that a terrorist attack rendered Kurtis' wife and daughter dead as well as taking out over 70% of Kurtis' body, leaving him to construct himself as a cyborg. After defeating Kurtis, he realizes he was wrong in his ways to support Carter in the invasion. He leaves to rest, and warns the crew of Jennifer.
The find Carter who unleashes Jennifer upon the crew with a device that allows Carter to control Jennifer. Kurtis comes in and puts a stop to Jennifer by giving his own life to stop the device. Afterward, part of the Celestial host appears to fight against Laharl and his crew. After defeating the angels, Carter escapes, but is confronted by Mid-Boss who demands to know what is going on. Carter reveals that an angel was helping him.
Meanwhile, Flonne decides that she needs to see Lamington and find out what is going on...
Final Episode: What Lies Beyond the Battle
The group heads to Celestia, but run into Mid-Boss immediately on the other side of the gate to Celestia. He wishes to test their resolve, and is oddly serious. After defeating him, they continue on to find Vulcanus trying to defeat the crew, and more specifically Flonne. He calls upon a group a greater demons, and while they seem to overpower the crew, Kurtis (now in prinny form!) comes in an rekindles their spirits.
After their defeat, they proceed to the Seraphic Sanctuary, and have a final showdown with Vulcanus himself. His true intentions are revealed to be simply this - to dominate the universe and create absolute peace, despite that not being true peace. After thwarting his plans once and for all, the crew proceeds to the Sacred Alter where they meet Lamington.
Because Flonne had harmed her own kind, she would have to be punished despite thwarting Vulcanus' plan. While the group ultimately tries to stop him, Flonne tells them that it's okay and that she knew that she would be punished. Flonne first gives Laharl the pendant, but he finds that it isn't punishing him any more. She then willing accepts her punishment, being turned into a flower, erasing Angel Trainee Flonne's existence and her sins. Laharl becomes blind with rage and goes to outright kill Lamington.
After a furious battle, Laharl decides to spare him. He goes to exchange his life for Flonne's, however Mid-Boss rushes in, telling him not to. A few moments later, the flower of Flonne transforms back into Flonne, however she has become a Fallen Angel to atone for her sins. Mid-Boss explains that Flonne was sent to the Netherworld to bridge the gap between Celestia and the Netherworld - and it appeared to have worked!
Mid-Boss leaves the crew behind, along with the faint image of what looks like Laharl's mother. They both float away, as though they were closely connected...
That marks the end of the game.

Gameplay
This section will be a little lengthy, as there's quite a bit to talk about here. It's a fairly typical SRPG on the immediate surface, but there are many unique aspects when you look into it. I won't be covering the basic stuff, but instead will discuss the more unique aspects of the game.
Geo Symbols
One of the big elements are these pyramid-shaped objects on the map and the coloured squares. The symbols will grant special effects on all tiles of the same colour that the symbol resides on. When a character is on the panel, they will receive the effects of this panel. Should the symbol be destroyed on a coloured panel, all of the panels of the same colour will change to the colour of the symbol. Furthermore, it will damage any unit on a panel of the colour the symbol was on. This will also destroy any other panel on the same colour panel, allowing for Geo chains. If a clear symbol is destroyed, all the panels of the colour it was on will be destroyed. (Not the terrain, but the geo panel)
This is a great way to build up the bonus gauge to nab some nice items and money, or to grind given that the effects are on your side. It adds a bit of a puzzle aspect to the game.
Dark Assembly
Another big element in this game is the dark assembly, a means of which you can unlock many things. The point of this is to try to pass a bill through the senate. While you could just keep trying by playing fair, you'll probably want to bribe the senate to take your side. We are in the Netherworld after all where this kind of stuff is perfectly okay.
If you don't like the decision of the senate and are feeling pretty good about yourself, you can always try to beat some sense into them by fighting them. All those that opposed your bill will become your enemy, but if you attack any of those that were for your bill, they will also become hostile. Once all opposing parties have been defeated, the bill will be passes as usual.
Item World
The item world is a randomly generated world inside each and every item in the game. You enter the item to make it more powerful, as well as subdue specialists. (I'll get to that in a seconds) The item world is divided up by floors, each of which are their own random map. Every 10 floors, the player will encounter a boss that, when defeated, will make the item even more powerful. Also, on the boss floors, the player will be able to leave the item world and return to the castle. (Unless they use a Mr. Gencey exit, which allows the player to leave at any time) Each floor progressed adds another level to the item, thus making it stronger.
Another important aspect of the item world are specialists. These residents of the items are neutral on the map and must be defeated by the player to gain the full effect of them. There are many different types of specialists that do many different things. For example, a Gladiator will increase attack based on its level (it's 1:1. That is, a Gladiator with the value of 10 will add 10 to attack) where a Statistician will add 1% more experience per unit. Some are capable of stacking (Like having several stacks of stat enhancements will work) where as some don't. (Like the statistician. So if you have two stacks of 300 [the max effective value of one], you'll still only get 300% more experience.)
You can only have so many specialists per item, but this is decided on the rarity of the item.
Common items (regular coloured text) have 30 floors and can hold minimal specialists.
Rare items (silver text) have 50 floors and can hold more specialists.
Legendary items (gold text or blueish green text) have 100 floors and can hold plenty of specialists.
Weapon Mastery
Every character class has a proficiency in each of the 7 weapon types. These weapon types would be:
Fist: A weapon good for moving enemies around with its skills. It relies, if memory serves, on SPD and ATK. Though, I won't be using fist weapons in this.
Sword: A versatile weapon that is decently strong and comes with many different types of skills.
Axe: A powerful weapon that deals the hurt to one enemy as opposed to many with its skills. Will lower accuracy, however.
Spear: A weaker weapon that can has an extra tile of range. Good for assisting from behind a good line.
Gun: Farthest reach in the game (5 tiles) that relies on the HIT stat as opposed to the ATK stat. While weaker than the bow, it's skills are okay and it serves well for running and gunning.
Bow: A ranged weapon (4 tiles) that can be fairly powerful with its skills.
Staff: Useless attack weapon, but great for providing magic power. While it gets no skills, it will help the caster with increased range and AoE for their spells.
The higher the proficiency, the faster they will level up their mastery in that weapon, thus will learn skills with that weapon faster. With each level of gained in weapon mastery, the character will get a slight bonus when using the weapon. Weapon mastery has various levels: E,D,C,B,A and S, from worst proficiency to best.
However, just because two different classes have the same proficiency does not mean they gain mastery at the same rate. It serves as a good indication on about how fast they will gain mastery.
Also, monster classes can not used any type of weapon aside from the appropriately names 'Monster Weapons'. They do not gain skills from such, but they do gain monster specific skills from levelling up.
