Is there any need at all to learn the move slash? Does it cause more damage or anything like that? Sorry if I put this in the wrong fourm.
Slah is there even a need to learn it?

Well, I don't think Slash does more damage than the regular thrust, but the Slash looks better and it gives Link a better range to which to hit enemies. Instead of being limited to the four compass directions in striking enemies, which can sometimes be annoying for Keese and other fast moving enemies, he can also strike from diagonals.
I think most quests put it in automatically or leave it out entirely. I haven't once stumbled upon a quest where you "learn" it midway through the game.

In "Link's Birthday DX" by Mr. Z, you do indeed learn it during the course of the game. I have yet to see it "learned" during another quest, but yes, many people start off with it by checking "Slash" in the "Init Data" menu.
The "Slash" ability simply makes Link's sword swipe function exactly the way it does in LTTP. If it isn't used, then Link uses the simple "stabbing" motion you see in the original LoZ.
Personally, I think the Slash ability should be used in every quest released from here on out. It just looks and feels more natural, and works better during play. It makes fighting slightly easier, but you can always compensate by adding slightly more dangerous enemies.

Firestorm, have you played "Search For Elise"by Freedom? Midway the quest, this knight teaches you how to slash. I think it's better to start with it be cause I hate the old style. It's very annoying to fight like that.

What you could also do with Slash is alter the swords and how they appear to react. You could have the wooden sword be a spear where Link thrusts it like normal. Then he can upgrade to a... let's say wand for lack of an original term, and have him thrust and shoot beams. Then he can upgrade to an axe that doesn't shoot beams but can slash. Then, after finally getting the master sword he can slash AND shoot beams.

Slash is in, it is the new trend. So include it in your game. I don't mind if you have to wait a while to learn it. Just don't put it toward the end of the game. Put it in the beginning of the game.

It's good to have it in the quest. If not at the beginning, than should be learned sometime. It makes the quest look a little more Zelda-y. I like it.

I love slashing! It's just awesome! It shouldn't even be an option not to slash! But, personally, I think they need to make it a complete slash like in LTTP, instead of the half-slash that we have in ZC.

"Slash is in?" Bah, it's not a trend. The "pokey Link" method only lasted one game! Well, he was still stabbing in Zelda 2, but that was quite different, and they weren't very good at animating sideways horizontal slashes in those days (same effect, different appearance; see SSB/SSBM). After that, the horizontal slash has been the standard attack in every 2D game released.
Lonemind:
Hey, that's smart. I like that idea. I can't use it since my Deku Stick is still a slashing weapon, but I'd like to see that done, yes indeed.
Y'know, I was thinking this awhile ago. So what I did was go into LTTP in an emulator, and test it out.
The result? The slash attack in ZC is effectively like LTTP's in every way but appearance. In LTTP, Link keeps moving his hand for roughly another 10 degrees rotation, but the extra movement doesn't damage anything. The damage area is exactly one quarter-circle.
Actually, I wish the left- and right-facing slashes were not done just like LTTP. They are mirror images of one another, which means Link swings with his right hand in one direction and his left hand in the other direction. Some of the Slash tiles in the editor are actually not used at all because of this.
