I have that game. I never got around to finishing it, though. It's almost like they're trying to mimic a Zelda game, but weren't very good at it. Tricky irritates me to where I feel that any uses he has should have been utilized as an item instead, and the plot just makes me mad as well. I mean, I'm not allowed to grab the blaster out of the Arwing because the dinosaurs don't like technology or whatever, even though I'm having to deal with an entire world of things that want me dead in incredibly violent and painful ways. Despite all this, I get some sort of magic stick to smack things with. Look, I'm traipsing all over the freaking planet trying to save all of your ungrateful butts, let me use the proper tool for the job and just appreciate that I don't just figure that there was a good reason dinosaurs went extinct the first time around, turn around, and leave!
In other news, I've started playing Okami for the first time, which is a lot of fun and I can see why so many people like the game so much. As for my DS, I was stupid and picked up another Code Lyoko game. This one's an RPG, which I thought would be a fun idea considering all the different characters and powers.
The game has absolutely no tutorial or directions at all, every level is a linear path with no admirable scenery in any way, the levels themselves look like something out of a cheap flash game and look like absolute shit, every enemy in the game is unavoidable and placed directly in your way, the battle abilities are mostly useless (the scan ability to let you see an enemy's health and everything only works for a single battle rather than letting you keep the information available for future fights), the forced "limit break" attacks don't do any additional damage to enemies than a normal attack with the added irritation of being required to do an infuriating minigame/action command for the privilege of being able to actually do damage instead of losing a turn, and I'm convinced that something is glitched or incomplete because so far not a single enemy has dropped any money and so I never have enough cash to buy anything useful from the shop. Speaking of which, none of the items let you see what they do when you need to use them, and none of them have names that identify what they're for. For example, if you're in a fight and have an item labeled "Antivirus Software", what would it be used for? Well, the game screwed up the plot by claiming that XANA is a virus (it's an evil AI that runs the supercomputer that the main characters have to deal with), so you would assume that the item would be something to damage enemies or something, right? No, it's basically an antidote for the poison status effect, but you wouldn't know that until you've gone through every conceivable idea on what you would use something like that for.
Let me put this as simply as possible. I'm on level 2, and I'm already wanting to destroy this game as horribly as possible. The only thing preventing me from doing so is that I've been wanting to study how different RPGs are designed so I can get a good idea on what concepts work best and what things don't for a game I'm working on making myself. Not only do I need to study good games to see what makes them work so well, but this means I also have to study bad ones to see what makes them suck so badly. Trust me, this game sucks REALLY badly. I really want to make one of these of my own just to prove that a really good CL game can be made, it's just that I'd probably be sued for copyright if I were to try.
