So I've decided I'm going to do an Ace Combat marathon. The goal is to achieve 100% in each game that I tackle. For me, this'll include - Getting an S on all missions on Ace difficulty, unlocking all planes, getting all combat medals (where applicable) and defeating all enemy aces. I'm starting off with the PS2 trilogy to see how that goes. I may go back to the PS1 trilogy, but I'd like to track down the two that I'm missing first. icon_razz.gif (I have 2, but not Air Combat nor Electrosphere.) I maaaay skip out on 6 because I know there' some insane combat medals that I'm not sure I'm up to the task of completing. (There's one that calls for going through the entire campaign without getting hit once.)

Kicking things off with Shattered Skies. I've done a lot in this one already, but there's still a fair bit ahead of me.

EDIT: Currently on mission 10 of Shattered Skies. I have to go back to the mission Shattered Skies to get an S rank, but so far all aces along the way are down and I've gotten an S on every mission so far. I kinda don't like how you have to buy the alternate colour schemes for as much as the aircraft. But since I'm going for an S on every mission, I'm raking in a fair chunk of money.

Well, I finished the DS "Code Lyoko" game last night. For a licensed game, it's not really anything special. The thing is, having watched the TV show, there's just so many things I saw that could have and should have been handled much better.

For one thing, every level lets you start by choosing what character you want to play as. The problem is, nearly every level is going to start with an obstacle that only one character has the ability to get past, forcing you to stop and use a checkpoint to switch characters. Personally, I think it would have been better, if the level design was to stay the same, to at least automatically start as the most convenient character.

Also, the game wasn't playtested very well. I found a glitch that made two of the three fight-capable characters pretty much invincible, and it made the entire game zero-effort for the most part. There are only three boss fights in the entire game (one of which barely counts because it's a boss that doesn't move, has no attacks, and merely summons more enemies every time you defeat them all), and the last boss somehow got locked into doing the same shockwave attack endlessly. Considering the boss in question is only vulnerable after doing a specific movement (turning without attacking: It needs to stabilize itself before it can attack), it forced me to kill myself in order to get to try again. Also, the same boss uses the same animation for showing you when to attack as it does to wind up for a heavy-damage attack, meaning you have no idea whether you're going to get to do two or three hits, or eat a lot of damage.

On the bright side, I loved the Sector 5 aesthetics. This was what the data areas in Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded should have been like. However, the level design itself for the most part was rather dull, repetitive, and somewhat glitch-prone for certain types of recurring obstacles.

Finally, and a major peeve of mine whenever I see it, there is no ending to this game. Once you beat the final boss, it cuts straight to a scene with the main characters who flat-out say "Good job! You beat the Code Lyoko videogame. Don't forget to watch the TV show!". Honestly, even a badly done ending would have been better than that.

I kind of want to see this done by a different company. The Games Factory doesn't seem to be very good at designing games, and the other CL game I'm trying out turns out to be made by them as well, and is even worse, looking like a badly-designed flash game. (Why couldn't they just re-use the character models and graphics from this first one? It actually looked really good!)

I went back to playing Virtue's Last Reward for the PSVITA (also on 3DS). I desperately want to know more of the endings. Another game I might actually go for Plat.

Well Haven't posted in awhile but Right now I'm playing Star Fox Adventures.

Still a pretty good game, But I would've loved to play the game before Star Fox invaded the game.
Because the game Dinosaur Planet looked awesome for a N64 game... Its a real shame that it never got released. icon_neutral.gif

I have that game. I never got around to finishing it, though. It's almost like they're trying to mimic a Zelda game, but weren't very good at it. Tricky irritates me to where I feel that any uses he has should have been utilized as an item instead, and the plot just makes me mad as well. I mean, I'm not allowed to grab the blaster out of the Arwing because the dinosaurs don't like technology or whatever, even though I'm having to deal with an entire world of things that want me dead in incredibly violent and painful ways. Despite all this, I get some sort of magic stick to smack things with. Look, I'm traipsing all over the freaking planet trying to save all of your ungrateful butts, let me use the proper tool for the job and just appreciate that I don't just figure that there was a good reason dinosaurs went extinct the first time around, turn around, and leave!

In other news, I've started playing Okami for the first time, which is a lot of fun and I can see why so many people like the game so much. As for my DS, I was stupid and picked up another Code Lyoko game. This one's an RPG, which I thought would be a fun idea considering all the different characters and powers.

The game has absolutely no tutorial or directions at all, every level is a linear path with no admirable scenery in any way, the levels themselves look like something out of a cheap flash game and look like absolute shit, every enemy in the game is unavoidable and placed directly in your way, the battle abilities are mostly useless (the scan ability to let you see an enemy's health and everything only works for a single battle rather than letting you keep the information available for future fights), the forced "limit break" attacks don't do any additional damage to enemies than a normal attack with the added irritation of being required to do an infuriating minigame/action command for the privilege of being able to actually do damage instead of losing a turn, and I'm convinced that something is glitched or incomplete because so far not a single enemy has dropped any money and so I never have enough cash to buy anything useful from the shop. Speaking of which, none of the items let you see what they do when you need to use them, and none of them have names that identify what they're for. For example, if you're in a fight and have an item labeled "Antivirus Software", what would it be used for? Well, the game screwed up the plot by claiming that XANA is a virus (it's an evil AI that runs the supercomputer that the main characters have to deal with), so you would assume that the item would be something to damage enemies or something, right? No, it's basically an antidote for the poison status effect, but you wouldn't know that until you've gone through every conceivable idea on what you would use something like that for.

Let me put this as simply as possible. I'm on level 2, and I'm already wanting to destroy this game as horribly as possible. The only thing preventing me from doing so is that I've been wanting to study how different RPGs are designed so I can get a good idea on what concepts work best and what things don't for a game I'm working on making myself. Not only do I need to study good games to see what makes them work so well, but this means I also have to study bad ones to see what makes them suck so badly. Trust me, this game sucks REALLY badly. I really want to make one of these of my own just to prove that a really good CL game can be made, it's just that I'd probably be sued for copyright if I were to try.

Apart from constant ventures into Arkham City in attempts to 100% New Game Plus (nearly there, just have to stop one or two more political prisoner results), I've been playing Megaman X on the side and finally beat it. I don't think I could've beaten Sigma without spending a long time memorizing his attack patterns and developing perfect reflexes if I hadn't used save states. And now I don't know what's worse, that Sigma fight or the Wily Capsule in Megaman 7. It's not because of the individual fights in the Sigma battle, more that each time you die you have to relive the gauntlet every time. Without that it would've been fine. Hopefully that doesn't repeat itself... (inb4 it does)

Did you get the Hadouken, or fight without it? (never played SF, don't know if it's spelled right.)

I did not. Figured it wasn't worth replaying levels to find all the necessary items first. I suppose Sigma wouldn't be as bad without it, since I forgot about it, but I guess that means the MM7 Wily Capsule is worse. Thank you for settling that debate. icon_heh.gif

Picked up 3 (not-so) retro Shin Megami Tensei Games:
* SMT: Nocturne
* SMT: Digital Devil Saga
* SMT: Digital Devil Saga II

I've been hearing a lot of good things about these games.

And I just got half of the endings in Virtue's Last Reward. Comparing it to 999, I find these endings to be a lot more surprising.

Hey guys, this isn't something I've been playing now, but something that I want to play and need to ask something...

Do any of you guys know that old arcade game where you had a large bouncing ball on a 2D playing area, and you played as a little guy who could run left, right, and shoot upwards? I remember that you were supposed to shoot the ball, and every time it got hit, it would split into two smaller balls and sometimes drop a powerup. The idea was to dodge all the balls and shoot it until it was completely gone, then you would get to do the next level.

Anyways, I really want to play it, but I can't remember what the game is called. I figured there might be an emulator/ROM I could use to play it without spending a small fortune on the arcade cabinet or my weight in quarters to put into an arcade cabinet.

Pretty sure the Hadouken was discovered to be ineffective against the final form of Sigma. By the way, the final form? It's vulnerable to both fully charged shots AND Rolling Shield! And the first sigma battle, yeah good memorization is handy or you can just hang around on the walls and fall down if it looks like he'll reach you. His wall jump patterns are very predictable.

Oh, I knew Hadouken wasn't useful against the final form, just the first form. I did know Sigma's final form weakness though, it just took some timing... and careful save state use. >.>

So, was recently gifted Binding of Isaac, which I've played a little of now and then. Never could make it to the final boss, so when I got my first unlockable character, Magdalene, I decided to try a run with her. In the same run, ended up unlocking Eve and beating Mom, so I'd say that was a pretty good run.

Revisited Arkham City and finally 100%'d the New Game Plus. Now all that's left to do are those Riddler's Revenge challenge maps... *shudder*

Oh, and I finally made Super Hexagon my bitch. And by that I mean I beat Hyper Hexagon and finished the game once and for all.

I 100% Farcry 3. Acheivements and everything. It was enjoyable.

My focuses are currently Minecraft 360, Borderlands 2, and beating Megaman 9.

I started Megaman 9 on the Wii planning to beat the 8 bosses mega buster only. I never did but I lost my Wii for... stupid reasons.

I recently got it on my 360 and Im doing mega buster only again. Ive yet to beat it and Im too stubborn to do it normally but Im close. Three bosses left. Ive not used any tanks either nor have I used that 1/2 damage thingy in fear I dont get the challenge but... I will beat this.
