Your dungeon is generic because it's been done a thousand times, there is not really anything amazing going on.

I'm taking it this would also go to your ice dungeon too? icon_wink.gif

I feel like there is a thing going on in BB's screen, it looks monastery-ish and dark, I do like Nightmere's idea on using water as a shutter. I'd also give it a bit of rubble here and there, and maybe a torch. Good steps to becoming a good dungeon, btw. icon_thumbsup.gif

Also if you're planning a next dungeon, feel free to PM me I got a lot of ideas in my head. icon_smile.gif

You say a theme of none cannot exist but a dungeon without a theme is generic. So how can generic dungeons exist then?
That makes no sense. Of course you can make a dungeon without a theme, but you cannot have a theme that isn't a theme. An apple can have a worm in it (it doesn't have to), but if there's a worm in the apple then the apple has a worm in it. Get what I'm saying?

Anyway, I say this again: the theme can be anything. It doesn't even have to be a visual theme, but a dungeon without a theme would be generic by default. If the theme was bats, then so-be-it, it's a bat-dungeon. I wasn't commenting on your screen, or your dungeon in and of itself, I was commenting on what you said about themes. Please don't take that the wrong way.

Besides, I think we may have been going a bit too far with this discussion, so if anyone is really interested in keeping it going, perhaps we should do so in PM, or in a new topic. I don't have anything else to say about the subject though, so I probably wouldn't have anything new to contribute.

Nope. Macintosh computers typically never get viruses.

I've come to the conclusion after this discussion that I need to invest more time in the themes of my dungeons and less into the gameplay correct? Would you all agree that the theme and gameplay of a dungeon is equally important? Anyways started from scratch and gonna go with a Marsh Theme, how does that sound.

This is missing the point. No one suggested to spend more or less time on anything. All we (=the majority of commenters) ask for is an actual theme which isn't just "this is a dungeon" but rather something like "this is a runied Castle which is overgrown by vegetation and inhabited by Poes and sorta has a forest theme" (borrowed that from OoT's Forest Temple). I mean, you were putting Gibdos next to Pols Voice. It's zombies next to bunnies, how is that supposed not to look random or somewhat halfassed?

Enough is enough, let's get back to the friendly critiquing shall we. icon_smile.gif
Here is the room with the darknuts I showed you. I'm basically redesigning the dungeon with a ruins setting and swampy-like theme.

It definitely is more interesting now, that's for sure. But you're not out of the clear yet. The screen is perfectly symmetrical; the right half is a mirror of the left. Generally, that's a bad idea, especially when you have stuff like trees on the screen. Plus, it's a perfect square, which honestly isn't too interesting. Change it up a little. Trying knocking out one of the walls, maybe make one bend a little. And use more grass detail, SD3 grass isn't meant to be used like that. And once again, avoid straight lines with it, that's know how grass works. But you're getting there; it's an improvement from the last one.

You've played the original Legend of Zelda, right? The dungeons were no more themed than the color scheme and matchup of enemies, yet still there was something memorable about it. Hell, the first time I played through the second quest, I knew exactly what feel they were aiming for soon as I set foot in a dungeon. You step into a tan dungeon with the lava pools and you just know you're gonna have your ass handed to ya.

Speaking of, Zombies next to Bunnies, as in...Oh yea, Level 2 from the second quest! From the game that our ZC engine is built around, no less.

Okay, I'll toss it and try a pure water theme. Give me a couple of minutes to conjure up my new screen. And the palette's going because I hate the deluge palette. I'm also going to change the setting one last time to a more dungeony setting. Grass doesn't grow in buildings there would have to be light coming from somewhere and I don't want that.

Here, I decided to redraw the screen as an example of how it could be better, and then I mirrored it just cuz. It's unfinished cuz I need to run out the door, but you can get the idea.

Well why can't this screen be outside the building? Or what if light pours in from holes in the roof but it's night right now so you don't have to draw it? C'mon, don't give up that easily.

Nintendo isn't DaVinci either. icon_shrug.gif Much less so in the 80s.

Whoa... You're planning on at least giving out the ladder first so we have a safe spot to fight all those Darknuts, right? I dunno how awesome you guys are at playing these things, but that looks insanely hard!

You're not still upset about that whole "dungeon theme" thing, are you? I didn't mean to start a huge arguement about it when I brought it up. If you're still upset, sorry about that...

Anybody know how to get the attachments thing under profile set up? If I can store photos there, I can show some of my things. If that's not what it's for, then anybody got suggestions on where to put them?

You can't or shouldn't store photos on PZC. You need to host them yourself with some web service like Flickr.

Use spin attacks and you can one shot them. icon_razz.gif
And you don't get the ladder at all in this dungeon as it would make it too easy.

Looking better! I think that beach could afford to have a little more ground detail, though.
