There's a character named Ness who has appeared in the Smash Bros. series up until now, and Lucas is very similar. They are from the same family of PK users.
It's pretty much 50/50. They're probably referring to Brawl or Melee.

- No character who has ever been hidden in either 64 or Melee has been revealed as of yet.
- All other characters have been revealed.
- It's been about a month since the last character update.
- There are 23 characters confirmed thus far, just two fewer than were in Melee total.
- The game was originally to be released in two days, on Decemeber 3rd.
It's just too big a coincidence that no characters that have ever been secret have been revealed, but all others have. Because it's been so long since we've gotten a new character update, and because the list is already so big, I have a feeling we may be looking at our starting lineup. Add the fact that the dojo updates were spaced for a December 3rd release date, and it makes sense that most of the starting lineup has probably been revealed already. My guess is that the previously hidden characters will be hidden once again as a throwback.
I hear all over the place that Sakauri said "no clones," but I've never actually read it myself. Does anyone have a link to anywhere that has an actual quote? Or is this word of mouth, same as the "Ice Climbers, Mr. G&W, and Young Link are getting the axe" rumor that turned out to be false? I know that everyone assumes it to be fact now, including major media outlets, but is there a source? Besides that, this "fact" has been around for so long that it might not be true anymore. I'll wait until he says something on the website before I jump to conclusions.
In any case, let's assume there's no clones. I still think Ness has a good chance of making it back in with his original moveset (altered just as much as other movesets have been altered). When I saw Lucas' moveset, I thought it seemed similar, but different. Kind of like Luigi is to Mario. I don't consider Luigi a clone, though I do consider Dr. Mario a clone. I see Lucas in the same light - similar to Ness, but with enough distinctions to set himself apart as his own.

If 23 is the starting lineup, then I shudder to think of how many characters there are total. I can't imagine Ike, Pokemon Trainer, and King Dedede available from the get-go.
The orignal game had 8 starters and 12 total. Melee considerably upped that number to 15 starters. That's almost double the original number of starters, and a bit over the TOTAL from the last game. So the precedent is more than there.
I think that it's more likely that theres a lot of characters in the starting lineup than that Sakauri would update with secret characters, spoiling the surprise. Nintendo didn't mention any of the unlockables for Melee until a long time AFTER the game released.

I sure hope that Brawl doesn't skimp on quality for online matches (like no freedom to set up game type or Item Switch and a stage-voting option). I say the host should choose the stage with the other players making requests. I want to play online Brawl with ALL of my options available.

More crap. About Wii Friends.

You WANT Brawl to suck don't you, you WANT it to be bland because we see everything coming right?
Sarcasm aside, Brawl will lose some of it's sheen if we know every little detail about it. I would have preferred Sonic stay secret until someone unlocked him in Brawl, but oh well. Now, I'm off to class.

So I picked up Brawl at the store today. Man, the anticipation was killing me on my way home. The game was worth the wait, though, trust me. I haven't tried everyone yet, but from who I have tried, I like Pit and Meta Knight. I'll probably play around a bit more to hopefully get someone who isn't overused. And the music for this game! Wow. You really have to hear it to believe it - the website doesn't do the music any justice. Overall, I'm really impressed so far. But I'll make it short since I want to go back and play: Game of the Year.
Oh, right, delay. My bad.
HOLY CRAP! Is it out already?! That means all the starting stages and characters are already confirmed.
EDIT: Re-read the post..Bah!

February 10th in the states. And if they haven't changed the European release date as well, then SSBB will be available just a couple of days after the American release.
Today's update is returning pokmon from Melee. Thet's pretty nice.
