Not sure about myself, but when I had to have teeth removed twice, they gave me an IV to put me out. The funny thing was that I remembered both times I was just causally talking to the dentist's nurse then the next thing I knew, I was being walked out by my father to help me with getting into his truck. The first time I had an IV used to knock me out was when I was 16 and I remember it having such a strong effect on me I felt like I was carrying 300 pounds on my back and had gone 3 days without sleep. The second time was this past Spring (age 23). Although I was still knocked out, I didn't feel as weak and tired after I woke up. I also seemed more calm and was put to sleep easier.

Slight topic change; how do you guys and gals fair against needles? I remember when I was a little boy, I was petrified of them. My worst memory of a syringe was when I was 7 getting shots I needed for 2nd grade. When I got the shot taken, I screamed loud enough the entire doctor's office could hear me. Then when I had to get shots when I was 11, I had to get two different ones. One being four needles in the shape of a 4 on a standard die and one regular needle. Pretty much from then I got over my fear of needles and now I'm pretty comfortable getting shots. Heck, when I got a physical last year, I barely got a sentence out before it was over and all it felt like was someone tugging on one of the hairs on my arm.

Okay, it's weird these topics should come up right now, because I had blood drawn yesterday, and for most of today have had a toothache and am dreading the possibility I might have to get some kind of wisdom tooth surgery ...  I had my right wisdom teeth removed, and it was horrifying. I was awake for it, and they numbed me up and kept squirting this liquid in the back of my throat. They also stuffed gauze back there, and yanked and twisted on the teeth. The chemicals and blood made me gag violently, even though I'm usually good with things like that. They had to cut apart one of the teeth to get it out. Now, I'm really afraid the tooth pain on the left side means the other teeth are trying to come in. They're still below the gum line and would probably require a more complex procedure.

As for the blood drawing ...  I always feel nervous, but of course it's always painless. I'm able to sit perfectly still and not squirm at all from the needle. I'm always shocked when I see how much they've drawn ... It seems like I should feel it a little more. Needles don't bother me as much as the anxiety of going to a doctor's office in the first place.

On Valium: you're not alone Kurt. I'm mostly immune to it to. I've had teeth removed with and without it and I couldn't tell the difference. Nor could my dentist (much to her disappointment). Same goes for nitrous oxide. Generally, it takes pretty high-caliber stuff like Vicodin to start doing anything to me.

On needles: I don't fair so well with them. Honestly, they don't hurt that much, but I tend to psych myself out a bit too much. I'll be fine in the end, but working myself into a silent panic beforehand.

I used to be afraid of needles. Now I'm more afraid of the side effects. The needle is only harmful is they miss a lot, or use excessive force while working with it. I find it helps if you temporarily tell yourself that you want the pain. Then there's really very little pain or discomfort at all, I'm afraid. Yes, this is totally a real and viable option.

I'm terrified of needles. That's actually what the Valium was for, to be honest. A home celiac's test, with a tiny needle like what a diabetic person would use to test their blood sugar, required four full-size adults and all my younger siblings working together to hold me down.

I hate needles for a few reasons.

  1. They hurt very, Very much.
  2. IT IS A FREGGIN PEACE OF METAL THAT INJECTS STUFF INSIDE ME!!!
  3. Read number 2.
  4. I feel sick seeing needles and seeing people get injections..
  5. ITS A FREGGIN PEACE OF METAL THAT SUCKS MY BODILY FLUIDS FROM ME. THEY ARE MINE, DON'T TAKE A BODILY FUNCTION THAT IS IMPORTANT TO BE ABLE TO LIVE!!!
  6. What more do I need to say?

Shots aren't that bad to me. I have a really high pain tolerance, so that might be it. One time, when I was six, I got my wrist caught on some barbwire, and cut my entire fore wrist, that part where people cut to commit suicide, wide open. I was rushed to the emergency room and got some staples, so I lived. I don't remember the moment that well, but my parents said I never cried the entire time. The worst kind of shots are the ones you get at the dentist in your mouth. They hurt less than the ones at the doctor, but they feel weird and I don't like the feeling. The first time I got a shot at the dentist they missed the spot they were trying to shoot, (I hope that's the correct usage there) and it hurt really bad. Also, I don't get queasy from anything. My dad will pass out on the sight of a small drop of blood. I can't. Nothing I can think of has made me queasy like that.

I only had two needle injections. Ever.

They weren't pleasant but not that terrifying for me. They always tell me to wriggle my left or right hand to relax the arm they're going to inject.

Actually forgot about the dentist needles. They had to do several shots in my gums (it really helped though in the long run). Needles in the arm are painless and not that scary... but Dentist needles... *shivers*

I will admit for anything like dental work, if I'm not sedated, you are NOT going to do anything to me. I have a low pain tolerance. Also I do admit I get a little uneasy seeing my own blood in a vial. Strange because I play games with high levels of blood and gore, yet I feel a little freaked out at the sight of real life blood. Guess since I'm used to it being a bit lighter red. But with blood work, I've learned my left arm is the best. Injections and blood drawing doesn't really hurt me, I usually don't feel it. Then again, they use finer needles now than when I was a little boy.

*Uses Phoenix Down*

So am I the only one who wants to go out for a walk to relax and see shit always happening?

My neighborhood's only problem is bunch of people doing motorbike burnouts in their yard and even more carelessly on our streets. Other neighbors won't let their kids outside their yard including my parents not allowing my little siblings to play even in their own fenced yard. They had a go with my older brother before too for no reason, calling him names and such. Also they party and drink every night. Zero respect to people who want to sleep.

Several neighbors including my parents reported them and the cops do nothing but drive off as they continue doing burnouts. These are underage people too with no helmets or safety gear. So I'm kinda disgusted atm with this situation.

And it doesn't end there; there are people who just occasionally randomly have a go at you. There's people who love to drag out drama onto the streets with no respect for other people. The level of disrespect people show towards others is just filth.

I have no chance going out for a walk with nothing stupid happening.

So... back to the initial question, am I not the only one? Sorry if I'm being too rant-y and vent-ful but my street has had enough.

Yeah, that whole situation sounds pretty awful. There's a lot of inconsiderate people in the world, and a lot of authority figures unwilling to do anything about them. A lot of people in the apartments here blatantly disregard a whole bunch of rules, including the quiet time rules. I usually stay up very late (about 2-3 AM here), and lately when I've gone to bed the neighbors' TV will be blaring on the other side of the wall. And sometimes, the downstairs neighbor will turn on metal music with amplified base at high volume at around 1AM. It doesn't bother me too much, but I really feel for other families with young kids or early jobs who are too polite to speak up.

I love for going for walks, too, but everywhere I've lived recently has required me to walk through a bunch of residential areas before I get anywhere I actually want to be. I find the cars and cement and people everywhere so discouraging I don't really bother much.

The city and streets is not my type of scenery I want to walk through either, really.

Main issue in my neighborhood are all the annoying pre-teens running around raising hell. The ones next door are the worst. They trample my mother's flowers in the back yard, leave their toys and crap in our yard, and we're not allowed to say anything about it. Their parents are worse; the father ALWAYS has a freaking fire going, rarely attended. That and there are beer cans EVERYWHERE. Oh, and they blast music. All the complaining in the world and it still happens like disturbing the peace is now legal. Also, they got the house torn up such that it looks like it's in the highest crime area of a major city where all the riffraff is and police refuse to go there.

I used to go on walks, but little troublemakers are everywhere. In the Spring/Summer, all over the town I live in has teens raising hell and being as much of a nuisance as possible. Of course, the parents are nowhere to be find, nor do they care. Even driving doesn't help; they walk across the street as slow as possible and if you say anything, expect to get flipped off. Same with the teens that drive around here; every single one drives like a bat out of hell and you can hear their music a mile away. Once again, they can be as much of an ass to you, but if you do anything about it, expect the finger.

Which kind of goes into another subject; why are people so mean, selfish, hateful and inconsiderate these days? Like when I was a little boy, mean people didn't seem as common. Now, it seems 75% of the people I see in public are the most inconsiderate people you'd ever met. Most of them have that attitude of being able to do anything they want to piss you off, but don't you DARE do something back to them. That's a no-no! There is so much entitlement, greed and using everyone for all they're worth. That and a lot of people like that don't even care they're like that. I mean how someone could go through life TRYING to troll people and think it's comedic is beyond me.

Eh, I think there have always been a lot of selfish people, esp. teenagers. The problem has changed though. In the 80's and 90's the problems were gangs and thugs, people born in poverty who learned that the only way to get what they want was to lie, cheat, and steal. Nowadays gang activity has gone down tremendously, only to be replaced with punks. They're a lot like thugs, but they're born in wealth and lie, cheat, and steal because they can get away with it. They also seem to like to major in business, probably because they have no other skills and figure it'll magically get them a lot of money.

Thankfully college has a way of weeding out these folk, and now that I'm an old fogey I don't have to interact with them directly. Though I do occasionally see them passing me on the road ... only to have to brake for the stop light.

^I noticed a lot of that too. Thing is a lot of those types wind up screwed over by what they lust for; money. If there is one evil that has brought more people down than anything, it's greed. Money is a very powerful tool of evil. Money can pretty much get you anything you want and it can either make you more of it, or make you tank hard.

With college, I only partially agree. The business school I went to did weed out a lot of students that don't deserve to be there, but there were still idiots. Most of my library visits ended up with people being loud and obnoxious. Some lady asks them to keep it down and they give a typical "umad?" response, following it up with her needing to "mind her own business". So then I got the librarian and asked her to do something about the situation. Of course, she did NOTHING about them, leaving the other student and I unable to research and write our papers in peace.

After a while, I got angry enough that I said "Some people are TRYING to learn here, unlike you!" and that's when I started to play with fire. What followed was a "Why don't you just STFU and do your paper that's so important to you?". At that point, I left and filed a complaint with the Dean. My complaint was ignored. I am just glad I'm not physically aggressive. Otherwise, I'm sure I'd be in a lot of trouble right now. Even if they're in the wrong, it doesn't give me the right to assault them. But I just wish those people WOULD have someone that doesn't give two craps about the law do it on my behalf.
