If you look at the original screenshot, there's a keese's shadow on top of the chest. That's why it looked so weird (IMHO).

@blackbishop89: I agree with Angeal; the lighter color looks better.

Aha, that explains it. It was just so perfectly placed that it looked like the shading was messed up or something. icon_xd.gif

I actually like this screen. The rocks don't really fit (because that way the ceiling would have to be open or something icon_lol.gif . You should also probably change the top right wall corner thing to match the elevation of the rest of the room. Right now you're using level 1 and 2 elevation when you should instead use level -1 and 1 elevation.

The top-right corner is supposed to be lower then the rest of the screen.

Yeah, and that then confuses the perspective.

I'm not a fan of the room layout, how the walls bend too much for a Temple, Shrine, Palace etc. (Caves, of course, are acceptable).
...Where did you get that from? I don't get why temples can't have bending walls but caves can?

Because it looks more visually appealing. Straight, perfect, smooth walls suggest this is a man made building. Making it wonky, twisty, all over the place makes it look like the builders had nothing in mind. Of course, a few bends wouldn't hurt, but it's a bit weird having it too bended. Plus, you're reply seems a little bit far-fetched I said "walls shouldn't have too much bends" I didn't say "walls shouldn't have bends at all" Just saying.

It doesn't concern me too much, I'm saying I don't like walls used in that fashion.

Aesthetically, this shot is golden, at least in my book. It almost reminds me of a technofied hanging garden or somesuch BS.

I always thought the people who built these things just liked to build overly complex death traps which held no other purpose than to be death traps. icon_razz.gif It would explain why so many Legend of Zelda dungeons are the way they are, both in canon and in Zelda Classic.

Yeah well I think you're an ass icon_deformed.gif icon_heh.gif icon_sorry.gif ...K sorry about that.

Actually I think we both have the same sort of idea here but you're misunderstanding me. I like your design, but your tile use is off.

Edit: Also what fool dares to say the design has too many twists for a dungeon/temple. It's not a dungeon/temple. It's an icy place icon_biggrin.gif.

Wow, I really like your screens! Looks very good, hopefully you're making a quest in that tileset, you use it really good!

These are supposed to be temples, right? So either there is a very high mortality rate for priests and nuns, or we have some incredibly badass religious folk!

I know that you didn't personally make the tileset, but is there a shade of blue available that's 1 shade darker than what's on the walls on the lowest bricks? Possibly the dark scratch marks on your checkerboard tiles? Anyways, it's always bugged me that the shading on the walls just jumps from a smooth gradient to the black lines between bricks. If you could possibly add a darker shade of blue onto at least just two rows of bricks before jumping straight into black lines, it would look a lot nicer. If it's just a tileset restriction, then it's not a problem. It's just a bit of an eyesore that I've seen done before, and nobody seems to try to do anything about it.

a simple dungeon screen
IPB Image
link looks over the edge at the ginormous forest bellow and thinks, "Hay,
how do I get there"

this is my level one entrance screen

I would like some critiques on it please.

Should i change anything? what are your opinions

also, ice levels ftw!!! That ice level screen is great. I especially like the ice on the roofs. It is a neat affect. icon_smile.gif icon_smile.gif
