Shoot your firerod to the direction of the arrow. Try repositioning a bit if it doesn't work right away.

On the screen down of this one, you can walk on a small part of unwalkable terrain, directly down of the right-most bush. Use your hookshot to the left.

 

Gotta say, if that's the first screen you got stuck on Deku Palace, you're doing pretty well.

Okay, the little tree said a key would appear near where I need it. I thought that was at the start inside the little deku tree. Where am I supposed to look? It's not supposed to be hard to find

Well, it simply means it will appear next to a locked door. You don't really have to worry about getting it right now.

Still bumbling around Deku Palace. Okay, I'll wait on the key. I've been everywhere except past these two blockades. I've bombed, boomered, bumped, hooked, and arrowed everything around each of these screens. What am I missing?

 

 

 

Also, I can stand in this little niche, but performing all previously mentioned actions has not yielded any secrets. Is there something here?

1st: Use your hammer on the pink spot. The one that's already a "pounded stake".

2nd: You need to push that black rock to the LEFT!

3rd: Nah, that's just for misdirection. Seems it's working like a charm

I see the tree's eyes above, and I've boomered them and hookshot everything and blown the ocarina and arrowed everything, tried bumping and walking up onto edges. What do I do in this screen?

 

 

Furthermore, I hear the secret noise when I hit the statues, but nothing seems to happen:

 

 

and I've scooted this skull all over the screen and nothing seems to happen. What am I missing, or are these more "red herrings"?

For the first one, you should read comment #68!

The other two are indeed red herrings, as you've called them. If you've gotten the key on the screen above your 3rd picture, there's nothing more around there. In case you haven't, try slashing your way through the trees blocking your path to the key.

I'm also stuck in the screen, 4 up from the entrance, in the ordeal of wisdom.

Here's my progress:

 

 

Notice that I figured out the firerod trigger in the top right of my map there. I move the blocks in the room 4 up from the entrance, then use the arrow trigger, and destroy the appropriate blocks with hammer, lantern, and bomb, but I can't see how the firerod works into this room - assuming it even does and that's not just a hed herring. I'm also confused about the bombable block I mentioned, because that doesn't seem to tie into any of the 3 rooms to the right like all the other triggers in the room. I tried bombing the floor in the 3 rooms to the right, but to no avail.

 

Also, how do I get into this area south of lake hylia?

For the ordeal of wisdom, the firerod is indeed what you need to use. If you shoot the mirror to the middle-right (or rather, the corresponding spot in the first room), it will bounce to the other and activate the final switch. Perhaps you were simply out of position?

This is the position you should shoot your rod from.

As for Lake Hylia, you need to shoot your arrows on a rock inside the water to the top. If you notice, there are some water tiles that look like an arrow pointing to that rock.

Did you use a cheat to get through that spot in Lake Hylia? I don't mind it, obviously, but if you didn't, there must have been a glitch or something.

Thanks, it turns out I was this close to being in the right position with the firerod, but your image helped me figure it out instantly. I solved that room now.

 

I also figured out that area south of lake Hylia. I didn't cheat to get through this area the first time, just merely walked between the fence posts all the way to the bridge.

 

For the record, I did notice some wierdness in regards to F6-continue respawning me in previously unseen areas of old hyrule and death mountain, which let me completely avoid the cave path to death mountain after you swim past lake hylia. I took the water warp south of the castle to old hyrule, did an F6-continue, and that's when the respawning wierdness started happening. I thought I might have been stranded, but nope, found the Tower of Hera and was able to progress.

Where am I missing a warp tile to get through this last door in Lost Woods, please?

I hate to say this... but I am SO done with this quest.

 

Beat the Tower of Hera, got to Old Hyrule. died fighting a Manhandla in a cave there.... and was promptly sent to Nowheresville. I ended up in a corrupted mess of a dark cave, and my last save was ALL the way back in the middle of the lost woods.Sorry, but losing THAT much progress in any quest, especially one as good as this one, will RUIN my enthusiasm.

I'm stumped on these two screens. There's a third path, but it seems like I need to get rid of the rocks in the second picture to open access to that third path.
