Except I think Heroes was great and Shadow was awesome. Secret Rings was very good, but suffered from a terrible control scheme. Black Knight... had an unresponsive sword and incredibly bland level design period.

Although Sega's claiming they'll have DLC for Generations, but I haven't heard any word on it yet.

The Casino Night minigame DLC for Generations was supposedly coming out on Steam on December 26th, but it's not on the store page. At least, not for me. I have no idea about the console vesions.

Well just got to playing, Sonic 4: episode 1 (Wii Ware) and I decide to do a review...

First thoughts

Well it looks like fun, it looks to be like the Genesis era game, but will it deliver? lets see..shall we?

Story

QUOTE(From Wikipedia)
Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is set after the events of Sonic 3 & Knuckles. After Sonic manages to destroy Doctor Eggman's space station, he decides it is time to take a much deserved break. After parting with his companions Tails and Knuckles, Sonic sets off to explore new territories alone.

However, unbeknownst to him, his nemesis, Dr. Eggman, has survived their last encounter, and has revisited and improved some of his very best robotic creations in another attempt to defeat Sonic. Sonic must travel through a variety of zones to defeat Dr. Eggman once again.

Now since My friend, gave me this, I didn't have no idea what the story was till now, and I'm not that impressed with the story.

5/10

Controls

Hm.. if its suppose to be a classic sonic game, it failed at that. The controls, seem too tight on sonic he moves way too slow, its awful, I was highly disappointed in the controls, the homing attack ruined it, badly... the double jump kinda sucked too, I found myself dieing multiple times do too bad controls.

2/10

Game-play

Now this is where I want to say, the level design sucks!, its awful, it seems the game relies on too many springs, to get sonic from place to place, which is not my idea of a sonic game. the bosses, was way too easy, it seems also that the bosses, was designed for young children, because, they are so simple its stupid, and this game has one of the worst zones I've ever seen...
"Casino street" it was so boring, and the music was horrible, The level it self relied on too many gimmicks, like cannons.. worst thing ever... Overall I didn't like this game at all.

3/10

Replayability

Theres not much here, only 4 zones, and the chaos emerald bonus stages, I guess if you like playing though badly made levels, you could have replayability, I don't see myself playing this over in the future, its just a bad game too me.

1/10

Overall Score

2/10

Final thoughts

It was a badly designed game, it disappointed me... I wouldn't recommend this game at all, If you want to play a classic sonic game, just play the Genesis sonic games they are a lot better, then this piece of crap. sorry to be harsh, but it sucked.

Love that commercial. Love it. I hope there's one soon that's an actual rip of the commercial and not filmed from the screen though, and one that's not so quiet. But awesome ad. icon_biggrin.gif

Whee, I'm so mature.

Anyways, as far as Generations 3DS goes, I'm willing to pin it at... say... 7/10. It gets more fun when you try to S-rank it. I mean, it's frustrating because you have to be absolutely perfect and find all the highest paths to get the S-rank, and there are still cheap areas, but you do see that there are a few good paths hidden through Mushroom Hill on, so that's neat. It's not the best game, but it's not the worst, not near it. It's risen in standing a bit with me, but the rival races are still crap. The regular bosses are pretty good though, just way too few of them. And Time Eater on the 3DS is much better than on the console.

@TS: Ha ha, pretty mature with that image, lol eh?

anyway, I just got a hold of another copy of Sonic heros, this time its on game-cube, and to my surprise its better then the one on Playstation 2. The FPS on game-cube, it a lot better the the Ps2 counter part. Which is strange, I have to say to the controls are a heck lot better on game-cube too. I'm liking this version better then the ps2 version a lot. I say the game-version makes me think Wtf? Playstation 2, why don't you give good frames per second on this game!?. I guess the game-cube is just a little more powerful then the Playstation 2, eh?

The PS2 is actually the weakest console power-wise of its generation, and it shows; the reviews for the PS2 games are lower than the Xbox and GCN versions of the same game for some reason. It's definitely true for every Sonic game that was on all three consoles. ... which extends to Heroes and Shadow, but still. icon_heh.gif

Yeah, now that I started playing the game-cube version of I'll probably give it pretty good score. in my books. Heck I even think the game-cube version doesn't have some the bugs, like the ones I found in the Ps2 version, like In Seaside hill, you could glitch the game and be stuck on the cart track, and couldn't even get off of it. I've seen thats its been fixed in the game cube version, I can not get the glitch to happen again no madder how many time I try, its is impossibly to do it in the game-cube version. I like that, that bug has been fixed, I wonder how many bugs they have fixed in this game-cube version?.

And so far I've noticed every game that has came out on all three systems (Xbox/Ps2/Gcn), the xbox and game-cube versions has always played better. I can't believe its taken me this long to realize..The ps2 sucked at playing some games, lol.

For PS2, very few companies managed to pull off half decent graphics in there games and even less managed to pull off average graphics when playing split screen multiplayer.

Square Enix was probably the biggest company to devote resources to getting the most out of the PS2 with there Kingdom hearts 2 and Final Fantasy series. Sucker Punch managed to pull off some awesome cell shading effects in all 3 of there Sly Raccoon games with the 3rd game including anaglyph 3D support.

Anyways, as far as I know the vast majority of cross-platform games ran better or looked better on the Gamecube and especially the Xbox.

Ooh, a Sonic thread...where do I begin?

Well, in terms of the classics, I have to put Sonic CD as my favorite. They just did an awesome job with the atmosphere. Sonic 1 is a close second, then 3&K, 3DBlast, and 2 in that order.

As for the DC/Gamecube era, well, Sonic Adventure 2 was awesome, followed by SADX, Shadow, and Heroes. None of which were that bad in my opinion, although the having everything hung over death pits and s***ty voice acting killed Heroes for me.

I haven't played quite a few of the modern games, but going by what I've played, Generations is my favorite. Too short, but very fun. Unleashed was fun, but something about it didn't jive for me, Colors Wii, despite the hate, is a lot of fun, so suck it icon_razz.gif. '06 was a great concept, and had the potential to be the best Sonic game in a long time, but it was riddled with glitches to the verge of being unplayable.

Oh yea, and SatAM and the Archie comics kick ass. That is all.

I didn't really think the voice acting in Heroes was that bad. Hell, for Vector and Charmy, I prefer the Heroes voices to their Generations voices. (Despite that Charmy was kind of annoying in Heroes) Seriously, they just sound weird in Generations. However, I never actually realized that point about death pits.

The voice acting in Sonic heroes, was just plain horribly. It was so poorly done, half of the time when i'm playing I feel like the characters mildly retarded, do to the bad voice acting. The voice I have to hate the most though is Tails, its like every few seconds "Tails: Look theres eggmans robots!" I mean duh! I see them..Thank you captain obvious. and his voice makes me want to strangle him. I wished sega could've done better voices in Heroes. I mean come on! Its liked they didn't even try to hire decent voice actors.
Oh well, what can you do icon_shrug.gif?

Blame the writers, it's not the actors' fault. I prefer their Adventure/Heroes voices, myself, especially Sonic's. Ryan Drummond (the actor's name) was the best Sonic voice actor for the games, in my opinion; he was energetic, unlike Jason Griffith (every Sonic game from Shadow the Hedgehog to Sonic Unleashed) and Roger Craig Smith (Free Riders, Colors, Generations). Don't get me wrong, I like those two, just Ryan was far better than both. And the way he lost his job makes me detest Sega. icon_unsettled.gif
