So surprisingly, I've found all 3 DLC characters really fun to use and I feel like I just added 3 mains to my personal roster, gosh dang it. My only complaint is that the trailer for them could've been a lot cooler. It should've been like... Ryu walking down the streets, and he passes by Roy, homeless in a box, with a small change dish that barely has any coins in it. He turns back, and puts a bunch of his fight money into the dish, and says, "C'mon... I want to fight the one, the one that they call... 'Their boy.'" Cue training montage/fight scene. Someone go do this, now. I demand it.
Anyway, moving on past my silliness:
Roy really is a combination of Marth and Ike, which I kind of expected Chrom to be had he gotten in instead of Robin/Lucina, and as it turns out, it works out really well! I like having a similar speed to Marth in terms of movement, but also a lot of the same raw power that Ike seems to have. It's really unusual for me to feel good about using him, since I was honestly pretty opposed to his inclusion in the first place. But, I figured I'd just buy the whole bundle and try him out, and I'm glad I did.
Lucas was one of my favorite characters in Brawl, so I am definitely all the happier having him back, and the purple shirt with the Drago sprite on it is way too adorable! As is the Boney shirt, and I cannot decide which one I love more! He still feels just as good for the most part, though his up-smash feels like it takes a lot longer to execute than it did in Brawl, but the huge power it has is definitely also noticeable. I've also noticed he's faster than Ness, likely due to him not having his family holding him back.
And then there's Goku Ryu. Gosh freaking damn, he is a fun character to use. Despite my limited time playing Street Fighter II as a kid/teen, I feel like I picked him up fairly naturally, and the quarter and semi circles weren't all that difficult to adjust to. (maybe from playing Skullgirls?) Either way, I was curious how well Ryu would be implemented into Smash, and they did a perfect job, in my book. I've seen people complain about him being in because of how Street Fighter is treated now, but I feel like that shouldn't mar his legacy as the poster character for the granddaddy of the fighting genre. That very reason is why he was so deserving of a spot in Smash. Plus, I mean, they included his original SF2 theme, which basically means that yes, I pick his stage way more often than I should.
(Oh and the new Mii costumes are really cool too, Megaman.exe was a really nice inclusion, and while the Splatoon hair is honestly atrocious, the matching outfit is super cute on its own.)
