So, I've decided to hold off on Lucas until I got another gift card because I don't have enough money to download him. In fact, I might not even need him at all, but you never know...

So it seems Dreamland 64 won't have updated graphics.
http://www.reddit.co...and_64_on_wii_u

This is ridiculous. I can't believe a bunch of amateur people doing a semi-profesional mod (PM is impressive in many ways, sure, but dear god, some of the new CSPs in 3.5 are atrocious) still gives better results than Sakurai and his team. And I'm not a fan of Dreamland HD in PM 3.5 (it looks too plastic and fake) but at least I appreciate the hard work behind.

What a lazy, lazy, lazy, lazy port of Dreamland 64.

Meh, I'm not torn up about it, I like that version of Dreamland, and that design was part of the charm.

So hey, friendly thing here - it'd probably be a good idea to put any reference to the leaks in spoiler tags. To the select few who haven't had this spoiled for them already, I'm sure they'd like to be surprised. :P

The problem isn't they're reusing the design again (although to be honest the original visual design was made with very low resolution and graphics in mind, it looks really out of place in higher resolution games, just look at Congo Jungle and Saffron City in PM 3.5 as examples, it's painful to play in those stages), the problem is that it seems they aren't updating the textures, according to that twitter and some of the redditors who posted in the reddit thread. I hate Brawl, but Sakurai's team did the right thing here, they ported the needed Melee data (wait what? Didn't Sakurai said Melee's data was old? Yet they could port Melee's data to Brawl and then Brawl's data to Smash 4? lol) and then they remade the textures and edited the overall look of the stages to match the quality and design choices of the rest of the stages and the entire game. Brawl's Temple looks much better than Melee's Temple. Corneria, Onett, etc, all of then have subtle changes which are enough to pass as proper ports. And indeed, I have seen people "nitpicking" a lot of thing from Brawl, but I have never seen someone criticising how Melee's stages were ported. However, from that screenshot, Smash U's Dreamland seems like a straight copy of Melee's Dreamland. You know, a stage from a 14 years old game. And Melee and Smash U have completely different art styles. That's the problem.

Maybe (probably) I'm wrong, maybe the textures will be vastly better, maybe they have updated the stage for Smash U, but I doubt it. And they don't need to make drastic changes. You could argue that Project M's Dreamland, Metal Cavern and Hyrule Castle differs too much from their original versions, a criticism I share (Metal Cavern is the worst case, it was originally a Smash 64 stage, which coupled with Melee's Final Destination and Brawl's Battlefield made a nice representation of the Smash franchise itself, but Metal Cavern now looks like a Mario 64 stage while it still has the Smash 64 logo in the SSS...), Sakurai does not need to go as far, but again, they though that making the game more competitive was to put dozens of Final Destination clones and they took several months to handle an "extremely hard and challenging" copypaste of Mewtwo. Why delivering a flawless product when people are goinng to buy it anyway?

V1.0.8 has been released, and it's a big one (so you'd better have enough room!). It's still downloading to my 3DS' SD card as I post this.
