Master Quest completed via stream, and I played a bit of Super Hexagon after the stream was over. Fun little game. Not the greatest thing ever, but definitely fun. And frustrating. Worth playing. Music's pretty good too.
I started the first Left 4 Dead last night; all the campaigns were ported to Left 4 Dead 2, and Russ wanted to play those versions since it has all the updates L4D2 has, but I wanted to play them in their original form. To compromise, while he's on vacation, I started them in L4D so I could see them in their original form, then when he gets back, we'll play through them in their L4D2 ports. I've played the first two campaigns, No Mercy and Crash Course, and so far, not bad. I think I might actually like the level design a bit more than the sequel so far (might have to replay the sequel to judge for certain), but there are definitely some setbacks.
The AI is less intelligent (though I haven't ran into many
significant problems), which, well, if you know anything about L4D2 AI, is not a good sign, though it's manageable enough. I just wish they'd be a little more responsive to when you're being attacked by a Hunter... I've seriously had a Hunter on me, the others were a short distance away, and they just stood there for a brief moment before approaching... ...
with their backs toward me. It wasn't until they were literally right next to me that they actually shot the Hunter off. Now, if a Hunter pounces on you while you're all together, they make short work of it. But otherwise, they're slow as hell to respond. There are far too many Boomers, which are rather irritating, though I suppose this is because the only Special Infected the first game has are Boomers, Hunters, Smokers, Witches, and Tanks; L4D2 added Chargers, Jockeys, and Spitters. If you use melee weapons often in L4D2, this game would be a pain with the lack of them, but since I rarely use them I do fine. The weapon selection is pretty balanced, not as good as L4D2, but plenty good enough, although I miss magnum pistols.
The Survivors themselves... not as interesting or fun as the L4D2 Survivors. ... let me rephrase that. The Survivors themselves... not as interesting or fun as Ellis, Nick, and Coach. Zoey is a hell of a lot better than Rochelle (not that that's saying much), and I kind of like her, but otherwise, the other three just hang at that "likable" stage and don't really get much higher than that, though it
has only been two campaigns. At least Louis is funny, but his shouts of "RELOADING!" do get on my nerves.
... apart from that, I need to start Halo 3. It's the last game in my Halo marathon, and I've
never gotten this close to completing a Halo marathon before (I'd just lose interest at some point), so I need to get on that and do it. Then get Halo 4 and beat it too.
