I don't know how it compares, but I can agree that those puzzles absolutely suck. The only big downside to the game I've found, but in the grand scheme of things it's kind of minor. I really don't know why a joystick couldn't have sufficed, though.

The one puzzle I found requiring gyro controls was fun for me cause

I dunno, the gyro controls work great for me. I couldn't imagine aiming my bows or other stuff otherwise.

Edit: as far as shrines go, my least favorite was
All in all, the shrines are pretty good. Kinda reminds me of the treasure grottos in ALBW.

I solved that one puzzle everybody's complaining about the same way Anthus did. I thought it was hilarious that I could do that, and that moment lifted away all the growing frustration I had at that puzzle.

(Vague enough to avoid spoiler tags I hope?)

All the videos you see about the Breath of the Wild spoils, they are all fake. Those people just don't want you to get the game. And that video of "Link's death" it's a fake for those who belive it. Stop crying over about it it's all fake. They just want attention. Some can be real some can be fake. Don't go on YouTube if you wanna know about BOTW. Beat the game first, then look.

Edit: Post merged with BotW topic.

Cuz if so, yeah, that one really, really sucks. It's impossible to complete as intended, and I ended up completely janking it byt

On a completely unrelated note, I love how many of the map location names are references to other Zelda games.

While I'm enjoying the game, I do have some (unsurprisingly) complaints with it. I'll try to do mostly spoiler-free for now.

Controls: So who's bright idea was this awkward control layout? Why can't I have Attack on B, A for Jump and X for items? I'll get used to the new one eventually, but still I would've liked the option for a setup similar to older Zeldas..

Combat: It feels kinda....sloppy? I have a really hard time locking on to enemies, which should be the simplest thing to do. I think now they have to be on-screen and you have to be looking towards them for it to lock-on, which causes some problems when you're used to the other Zeldas. The enemies also don't seem to be that much smarter, just nearly anything outside of a basic Bokoblin one shots you if it hits. Even better armor and more hearts doesn't seem to really help...

Mechanics: I'm not positive what it is with this engine, but doing some of the puzzles doesn't feel anywhere as smooth as other Zeldas. It's less of "I figured it out, that was a great puzzle!" and moreso "That's what I have to do? Why didn't this work the last 10 times I tried this?". If it isn't working and there isn't another good solution, odds are you just have to keep trying what isn't working until it does work. Thankfully this has only happened once or twice, but still worth mentioning I felt. The mechanics feel off in this game still.

Equipment: Your *insert weapon or shield here* is badly damaged. Yes, we know, now get that message off the screen. I get the gimmick of this spoil system, but I don't find it too enjoyable with the amount of managing you have to do. For one, It is a pain to swap or discard Bows and Shields. Why isn't there a swap button when standing on another Bow or Shield? I also wish you could hold more Melee weapons as the majority of the weapons break so fast that you can go from full inventory to 1 or 2. I've had it happen a few times during a fight and barely got through. Bosses are gonna suck.

Also, for certain puzzles using one specific rune, you basically have to break a Melee weapon per attempt. When you're not 100% sure what you are doing, this causes some problems and I usually have to load an older file once I find the solution out because I'll be out of weapons to use otherwise. (Although be careful loading a previous save for a certain puzzle as it has issues if you do this.)

Horses: TPHD Horse Controls return. Yeah, I'll just walk instead...

Minor Spoilerish feature, pretty early game still I think:

Spoiler

Apologies if this seems overly negative. As I said I am enjoying the game, just I've noticed these issues above. I'm also not the most positive person around and even if I were to were to describe something positive here; it'd most likely land in a big ol' spoiler box.

I think I mentioned this in this thread before but in some ways I feel like this game is a realization of ALBW's original idea, of having about 50 mini puzzle dungeons instead of standard dungeons.

I agree with this, it'd be nice if instead of "your inventory is full," you get an option to replace the item you picked up with the item on the ground/in the chest. I don't mind dropping items as much but this little change would've made things smoother.

You can turn it off by pressing - to enter the map, and press Y to bring up a menu for it. :)

This is probably the only Zelda game where I don't really die to enemies.

Instead, I die to the cold/falling off out of mountains/rolling off mountains :P

Minor character spoiler:

My only real complaint so far is the lack of a quick swap, or drop option for weapons when you grab one with full inventory, especially for shields and bows. Pretty minor, and could hopefully be fixed with an update.

Wii U negative observations (Overall the game is great, don't take the below as me disliking the game as a whole):

1) Can not fully redefine at least all the buttons and shoulder buttons (Can somewhat understand being unable to redefine the DPad and associated button/analogue stick combinations).
2) some auto-progressed dialog (like the intro text for Trials and the text when completing a Trial) should display with a background or something behind the text to make it easier to read because it sometimes appears with the glowing ceiling behind the text (and you can't manipulate the camera during this).
3) The option to have an opaque background behind text doesn't affect all dialog with a background behind the text.
4) Can not view the Durability and Current Durability of your weaponry. There is only a non-descriptive warning when it is "close" to breaking (Periodically flashing red every so often when it is close to breaking doesn't indicate how many times I can use it in a pristine state before it breaks, so I can't judge which weapons I should prioritize for strong enemies).
5) When pressing + the game will decide which inventory menu panel to open to (weapons, armour, shields, bow, food, cooked food, quest items) instead of opening to the one you were last looking at. (I think it changes which one to open to if you get an item, I don't like this behaviour)

6) No way to get an overview of your character's currently equipped gear. By this I mean there is no way to just view all types of gear that you currently have equipped and how it is affecting you. You have to painstakingly navigate between multiple inventory menus and look at each equipped item individually.
7) If you loot an item from a treasure chest and your inventory is full, it does not give you the option to open the inventory menu and drop an item in order to free up enough space to loot what you're trying to pick up. You have to cancel out of looting the item, open the inventory, drop an item and THEN re-interact with the Chest to loot the contents.
8) Wii U Gamepad gyro sensor is required for some puzzles. Must switch away from Pro Controller. I think this drained the Wii U Gamepad battery excessively fast.

Spoiler

9) I feel like the game did a poor job of explaining the controls for the Paraglider when you first obtain it.

10) When using Sheikah Slate view (Click the right analog stick) to place Pins, it would be nice if the Pins stated underneath them which region of Hyrule the Pin is located in (When viewing them with the Sheikah Slate View/click right-analogue stick). This would make it easier to judge if you've placed a pin beyond where you intended without having to open the map and confirm you got the pins right.

11) The first tutorial for using the Sheikah Slate view to pin stuff gave me the impression the NPC was meant to congratulate me once I had successfully tagged the places I was supposed to tag with a pin, however the NPC just kept ordering me to tag the places with no indication of me being successful at the task (I ended up ditching the NPC and going to the places).
12) If you lob food on to a campfire (You're meant to use stone bowls with tripod feet) a mysterious and completely illogical wind will erupt from the ground and blow most of the food away from the fire! This inexplicable and completely illogical updraft seems to only happen when tossing spice berry stuff on to an open flame.
13) The smallest font present in the game should be larger and easier to read from a distance.
14) No title screen/main menu music? Seriously?
15) If you use Headphones with the Wii U Gamepad and the gamepad goes flat, the game will not detect this and will not switch audio output to the TV. There is no in-game option to switch the audio output device either (Wii U Home menu can be heard fine on TV but the game remains dead silent)

16) Ingredient inventory menus expand sidewards, increasing the number of times you have to tilt the Right Analogue Stick to navigate between inventory sections. Why not have the ingredients section expand DOWNWARDS instead?

I beat the game! Honestly it was worth the wait, this game is amazing and I personally encourage anyone who hasn't gotten the game to not look up playthroughs or look up any huge spoilers. A lot of the games charm comes from discovering things yourself!

I'm going to try and get 100% this run now. Given some circumstances, I can't actually obtain everything, but I will try to "obtain" everything.
