I am assuming that link does not live to see above the spikes... Anyway I started working on a custom subscreen today and I am going to play Skyward Sword to get a better idea of what the areas should look like (And work on them some).

I finished a couple maps that were in no way integral to the completion of the overworld and purely there to give me something to us so I could continue procrastinating on my last two maps. And I messed around with my subscreen some more. Added magic container pieces to the game, and (I think, I haven't playtested yet, so I might have missed some), got all my secrets updated to work with the new items and not work with the old ones (since some of the old ones no longer exist, in game). Basically, i'm just wasting time at this point, cuz as soon as I don't have more stuff to do, I have to get to work on the wind temple.

What is this?

7 Screens

Why yes, a quest where you can either obey or disobey the narrator, while sometimes having your own freedom doesn't do any harm... your journey could end sooner with climatic cutscene endings. :D

Estimated Release Date: Three days!

These are amazing, Shane. I love how you used Classic in a way that no one ever usually does. You broke the boundaries and it looks dazzling and fresh! Reminds me of Metroid! ;)

Shane- Like the house a lot! The use of classic is kind of weird, but I would have to see more to see if it works. The idea is something I would play if it was well written and had an interesting atmosphere. Good job! :)

-Strike

How does it look weird? I'm sincerely curious.

Like you said, different style. Weird does not mean bad. ;)

Looking forward to this Shane! :)

Well, I was finally getting the urge to work on my quest after months of zero progress, but then my scumbag computer decides to die, and likely all my progress went down with it.

Unless I'm able to recover my shtuffs, I don't want to touch ZQuest ever again. It'd be too painful...

I feel you. In the 13+ years I've been using ZC and ZQ, I've never completed more than one dungeon in a quest before the .qst file gets destroyed somehow. It is very frustrating. But, my current quest is nearing completion of the fourth dungeon, so maybe I passed all my bad luck to you :(. My recommendation? Keep backups. Lots of backups. But don't give up on ZQ.

Started work on a real zelda quest today (instead of working on my other main quest, again). Made the intro sequence, some scripting, some item setups and came up with the idea to segment the world of my quest into islands much like in The Wind Waker. Finished the mountain layout and tree placement of the first island. That's a whole lot for a day :D

Since the quest will be completely unlinear and every island in the entire quest will be available from the beginning (once you get access to use the ship), this quest will be called "TLoZ: Free Adventure" and it has a big emphasis on exploring and rupees. I want to finish my classic quest first, before working any further on this thing, but the idea is there and hope someone looks forward to it ;)

Avataro: I love open-world quests, and given the high quality of the rest of your stuff, I'm definitely looking forward to it.

Keichi: I'm sorry to hear about your computer. I wish you luck in recovering your files. I have a lot of writing on my computer from years and years back. And, while I do have backups, I wince at the thought of losing something like that. All I can say is that if you really do lose it all, try to stay positive and look at it in terms of how much you enjoyed the journey, even if you didn't quite reach your goal. I do hope you won't give up on ZC over this.

As for what I accomplished ...  I made my own lava tiles! I'm sure they look pretty weak compared with what's available, but I made them from scratch, and they're mine, and I like them. I'm slowly getting a feel for how I want all the areas in my new quest to look and how it will all work mechanically. :)

Started scripting the last attack for one of many bosses for a dungeon. O: I'll need to rescript how a certain type of weapon works for my own use, but hopefully it'll be worth it in the end. :3

Well, I fixed up a script I had written for a tile that gradually, yet very quickly, refills Link's health when he stands on it, gave the second boss the Bow/Arrows to drop when it's killed, and came up with the idea of having all of the ammunition items be impossible to find unless you find the proper enemy that uses that weapon, then it's a guaranteed drop if you kill that enemy. For example, you receive the Bow/Arrows by killing the Corrupted Fairy in the forest area. However, your initial arrow stock is very low and you'll run out of arrows very quickly. However, near where the boss was located is a screen filled with Forest Archers, and each time you kill one, you're guaranteed at least one arrow.

I'm planning on doing this with all the different types of items. When you need bombs, you'll have to find some exploding enemies to kill to restock. If you find a bunch of dark rooms and you don't have either the Red or Blue Lanterns yet, you can find some pumpkin-headed enemies that drop a single-use candle item upon death. (I'm planning on adding some custom items as well, both Editor-created and scripted. I already have several scripted items in already.)

Speaking of items, I'm trying to figure out some new ones. Right now, I have a set of Apple items. You can hold up to five at a time, and you regain a heart every time you use one. Considering the very early enemies only deal a quarter-heart of damage per attack, I'm thinking that this might be too overpowered for so early in the game. However, late-game will end up with Link having so many hearts, and taking much more damage per hit, so then the apples will be too weak to be much help. There will be two other similar healing items as well (Bread, and Meat), which recover 3 and 5 hearts each.

I'm trying to decide, should I keep the three healing items at 1, 3, and 5 hearts, or should I change them to something like 1/10 Link's max HP, 1/3 Link's max HP, and 1/2 Link's max HP? If I choose the former, then they'll slowly fade away in usefulness, but by then, the player will be used to the new ways the game works. If I go with the latter, they'll be useful throughout the entire game, but I'm not sure if they'd still be balanced as well as I'd hope. Which do you guys prefer?
