Gamewise, Staraptor is good. Anything else, Pidgeot >>>> Staraptor. You can't be Pidgeot. He's awesome.

Oh ya, am I the only one who things that breeding Pokemon with an incense to get a different baby is odd. To (badly) quote TS:
Marill: Wait, if I get it on normally, I'll have a baby Marill, but if I get it on while I'm sniffing this stuff, I'll have an Azirill baby!

It's messed up! Especially when you don't know what incense to use. I cannot tell you how surprised I was to have an egg hatch into a Mr. Mime.

Oh. Well, it's not too hard. It just takes a little bit of thought. That, and patience for level grinding, and bull-headed stubbornness for struggling through the Elite Four 15-20 levels too low.

Actually, I think it was: "IF I GET IT ON REGULARLY I GET A MARILL BABY, BUT IF I GET IT ON WHILE SNIFFIN' THIS STUFF I GET AN AZURILL BABY!!"
