I'm curious how a console/handheld hybrid would actually work? I'm assuming similar to how a laptop would dock into a docking station? My question is how simple this would work when there are so many pieces to the puzzle here? Could the NX just be a Wii U where you can now take the tablet controller with you on the go?

From the looks of the leaked(?) drawings it's like a tablet with detachable controllers on each side (thumbstick and dpad on one side, thumbstick and ABXY on the other). I would imagine you can detach the controllers and hold them like wiimote+nunchuck (or maybe clip them together) and place the tablet into some sort of dock that streams to your TV for at-home play.

I'm personally hoping it's more like some box/dock the tablet can wirelessly interact with for "TV mode," that way there's still options for Wii U-style gaming and you can use the tablet like a Wii U GamePad. As an option of course, not required, or else there'd be no point to detachable controls. I'm mainly thinking about stuff that decently incorporated the GamePad, like Splatoon (though I'm sure they could find other ways to emulate GamePad functions without a touchscreen) and Super Mario Maker (which could exist without a touchscreen but let's face it, it'd be far less fun).

More rumors.

Somewhat skeptic about the motion controllers but it could be a legacy thing. I'm definitely on board with HD multitouch though, because it's about time.

If this is true please let motion controls be optional for most games. I'm not really a fan of motion controls and honestly motion controls had their peak with the Wii. Touch screen I'm fine with but honestly when it came to the Wii U, taking my fingers off the buttons felt so... unnatural? Not sure if that's the right choice of word but that sprung to me first. In any case, regardless of what the NX is (wish they just announced it already, the rumors are everywhere) I hope it has great games and obviously Breath of the Wild sounds like a great start. And coincidentally Zelda Informer did post an article where Reggie says stuff that makes me optimistic regardless of what the NX ends up being.

Since the controllers will be attached for on the go gaming, I have little reason to believe they wouldn't have non-motion options, apart from maybe a gyroscope which seems likely. I feel like motion controls will be used either for gimmicky titles or legacy support for past Wii and Wii U games that used them, as well as that option for developers who want to add an additional scheme. It also seems likely they might develop certain games that are "recommended" to be played in TV mode.
Anyhow, here's a couple other rumors.
The d-pad will be split, similar to a PlayStation controller (PS4 specifically mentioned). An idea that I have no real opinion on, but someone made a little speculation: A split d-pad can function as face buttons in a pinch, and provide the potential for two-player multiplayer on some games using only the two attached controllers; after all, each would come with one control stick, four face buttons, and two shoulder buttons. It'd be a little awkward but viable.
Dimensions, layout, and potentially region-free. This is the one you should completely take with several heaps of salt, and even the article itself mentions that. The dimensions seem a little off (very wide) but the layout seems legit, however the article warns us that the sources may not be as reliable as they initially thought. The region-free stuff is probably a pipe dream as well; why would dev kits have region locks? Sure, it's a nice dream, and we'd all love to see it, but this is probably the weakest rumor so far.

Ugh, I have bad memories of the split d-pad on PS1

The word before was that the NX would be revealed this month. Now it's next month? They just need to show it off already, living on rumors is agonizing.
Like the rumor it's once again only 32GB storage. No, Nintendo. That won't cut it in this day and age. I'm a guy who lives on physical releases so it likely won't affect me that much, but there are tons of people who go digital and they need to be considered. If that's just a starting memory base with expandable memory, whether through hard drives or whatever, then fine. And they'll probably have hard drive support, but... that won't help you if you want to take it on the go!
Gah. This doesn't even really affect me and this bugs me. I hope it's a false rumor.
Also as for the mockup, I preferred the more traditional ones seen before, but I have to admit, that's a very Nintendo design they have going on there.

Yeah I'm not too happy with how Nintendo has been VERY secretive about the console. It's not a matter of impatience, it's more of confusion. I just hope Nintendo is talking with developers behind closed doors about the NX product and trying to build relations with third parties in advance. Some developers were not too happy with how Nintendo went with the whole "Here is our box. Develop games for us!" technique. They really need to go all out when they reveal the NX product and market that thing to the best of their ability.
