Confound!
This happens every time I get hooked on something that completely redeems a franchise. For some reason, I always want to go back and watch the really crappy part of the franchise. It happened with Yu-Gi-Oh! Season 0, when after finishing the original 27 episodes and the 7 volumes of the manga, I had a sudden desire to watch the 4kids dub. Then it happened when I watched Pokemon: Best Wishes, and I suddenly wanted to watch seasons 5 thru 8 of the dub. BUT THIS, THERE'S JUST NO EXCUSE! I'M GOING BACK AND WATCHING THE OLD MLP EPISODES FROM 1986, AND THAT'S REALLY EFFED UP! AND NO, I'M NOT EVEN SKIPPING THE MOVIES!
(Fizzy is kind of cool, tho)

I have to say that I'm sincerely sorry.

I must apologize for any harm that I may have done to you, your brain cells, or your future offspring.

As fanfics go, I would SERIOUSLY RECOMMEND reading "Princess Luna vs. The Microwave". In fact, I'd recommend all of the 'Princess Luna vs.' stories. They're really well written.
Okay, I'll keep it in mind if I ever get the urge to read MLP:FiM fanfic. Although that doesn't seem very likely, as I never really get the urge to read ANY fanfiction....

EDIT: Yeah, I think I've had enough of the old series for...a lifetime...At first it was just the motivation of "dammit the new MLP is actually socially acceptable now, I need to find something that people will look down upon me for watching, so I can have a guilty pleasure." But now, it's just "god what the hell made me think I should watch this?!"
Well, there's always vintage Power Rangers.
Or Panty and Stocking, if you want to go the other direction.
Or Hale + Guu, if you want to go yet another direction....
(Actually, I'd suggest Guu out of the three of those...it's not as well known, but anyone who sees it over your shoulder will most certainly say "what the hell is that?!?")

Oh, I did. Both parts. It was glorious - everything I expected and more. I laughed, I cried - and largely at the same time.
I understand, but I'd like to know: were you crying FROM the laughter, or in spite of it (out of confused terror)?

Some of their voices were pretty grating as well. I hate how the young ones talk in that "ME NO LIKE THIS" sort of way. I always hate it when shows do that. And I swear one of the boy ponies were voiced by a Ninja Turtle, which is actually pretty awesome come to think of it.
Pretty much any anime does this too, at least in the original Japanese. They don't always translate it directly. I'm not sure whether it's an anime trope, or whether kids in Japan really talk in 3rd person all the time to sound cute. I know that people of other ages intentionally talk a specific way to fit into a stereotype that they like.
But yeah, in America it is most DEFINITELY a television construct. Grown adults trying to sound like little tykes.

You might not have reached an episode with any yet, but Friendship is Magic has them as well. They're good, I promise. That comes from someone who cringed the first time they heard one in an episode, but now has them on their MP3 player.
Oh, no. I won't judge any song until I hear it. But given the production quality of the rest of the original MLP series, it's pretty obvious that their songs would be even lamer.
And for the record, Powerpuff Girls had a Beatles-themed musical episode. After seeing that, I have a lot more confidence in their ability to create other musical episodes. Television needs more spontaneous vocal singing. It just needs to be
good as well; that's the problem.
Ahhhh, my final exam is finally over. Maybe this week I will have time for pretty ponies.
