I can honestly say that was the best episode of My Little Ponies I have ever seen.

I can also honestly say that was the only episode of My Little Ponies I have ever seen.
So that means it was also the worst you've ever seen!

(which episode was it)

It was the one you linked to, with the Zebra. Great episode. Thumbs up.

You should also watch Party of One, which I linked to earlier in the thread. I say this because it is the greatest thing, ever.

I have a new avatar. One might notice that Chiyo-chan isn't in it. While a tragic loss, we must press forward, into this new Chiyo-chan-avatarless world. It can even be an exciting thing! I can have pony avatars now, or perhaps avatars which contain neither Azumanga characters nor ponies! Woah! Craziness, I know! I say we celebrate by having ShadowTiger watch Party of One. Also everyone else watch it as well.

and then watch it again

and then again

and again

and again

forever and ever

I'd actually recommend watching all the way through all four Cutie Mark Crusader episodes just so you understand why Scootaloo is the greatest out of the three of them.

And then you'll watch the scene from ep 18 where Scootaloo jumps the tree branch in slow-motion.

Over. And Over. And over.

And then you'll say "holy shizzles this show is AH-MAY-ZAH!"

Dude, seriously? I think clam fest would've been, I dunno, a bit more metaphorical. If not at least a bit less offensive.

Ahh, that works. Or perhaps taco party. But yeah, I think we've talked about that enough.

wow still can't say that, thanks purezc
That sounds hilarious in all the wrong/best ways. I must see this.

Heheh. Right.

Well, I "researched" into it a little bit, and I found out that the male stereotypes are distributed pretty evenly across all of the "Big Brother Ponies." We've got a pony with a baseball and glove for a butt mark, a one with a bunch of cacti, among others. And every single one of them wears a bandanna.

They still have long eyelashes and come in pretty-pony colors of the rainbow, though.

See for yourself. As a "bonus," it starts off with 3-4 minutes of reminders about WHY it is inferior to the new show. It even has a vocal song.

(And apparently, that witch from Tangled makes an appearance.)

One thing I find amusing is that every time any of the ponies speaks to another pony, they refer to other pony by name, to make sure you know which toy to ask your parents to buy for you. How delightfully convenient.

Anyway, "enjoy" the video, and remember... Big Brother is watching you. (Also, Big Brother is a pony)

Confound!

This happens every time I get hooked on something that completely redeems a franchise. For some reason, I always want to go back and watch the really crappy part of the franchise. It happened with Yu-Gi-Oh! Season 0, when after finishing the original 27 episodes and the 7 volumes of the manga, I had a sudden desire to watch the 4kids dub. Then it happened when I watched Pokemon: Best Wishes, and I suddenly wanted to watch seasons 5 thru 8 of the dub. BUT THIS, THERE'S JUST NO EXCUSE! I'M GOING BACK AND WATCHING THE OLD MLP EPISODES FROM 1986, AND THAT'S REALLY EFFED UP! AND NO, I'M NOT EVEN SKIPPING THE MOVIES!

(Fizzy is kind of cool, tho)

I have been reading quite so many fan fics so far, and I'm honestly surprise at the number of high quality ones. Generally fan fics are terriBAD. :p

Also, I found this kinda nsfw, but not quite, image that I just HAVE to show!

Oh and, I have been browsing ponychan and ponibooru a lot recently. :p

TL;DR on the the whole thread:

As fanfics go, I would SERIOUSLY RECOMMEND reading "Princess Luna vs. The Microwave". In fact, I'd recommend all of the 'Princess Luna vs.' stories. They're really well written.

EDIT: Yeah, I think I've had enough of the old series for...a lifetime...At first it was just the motivation of "dammit the new MLP is actually socially acceptable now, I need to find something that people will look down upon me for watching, so I can have a guilty pleasure." But now, it's just "god what the hell made me think I should watch this?!"

hmm, it's quite weird that people in there late 20s early 30s are so obsessed with this show. I mean, I like power puff girls,
(Witch BTW is created by the person who created this show's husband.) But I don't go crazy over it.
Sure, there is nothing wrong with liking a show. Even if it is directed to young children but you guys go nuts about pink ponies and sunshine!

I just think it's a bit weird is all. Not judging you guys or anything icon_heh.gif

Oh, I did. Both parts. It was glorious - everything I expected and more. I laughed, I cried - and largely at the same time.

The ponies in the second part after they grew old were terrifying. Had I seen it as a child I think I would have developed a fear of cartoon horses. All the ponies from the old show have really ugly, unappealing designs, actually. Seriously. My Little Ugly Horrifying Horse Things. Such a stark contrast to Friendship is Magic, which has genuinely great character design.

Some of their voices were pretty grating as well. I hate how the young ones talk in that "ME NO LIKE THIS" sort of way. I always hate it when shows do that. And I swear one of the boy ponies were voiced by a Ninja Turtle, which is actually pretty awesome come to think of it.

You might not have reached an episode with any yet, but Friendship is Magic has them as well. They're good, I promise. That comes from someone who cringed the first time they heard one in an episode, but now has them on their MP3 player.

It's an unwritten rule of mine that I do not read fanfiction, but I found a FiM/Stargate crossover fic and decided to give it a go (background information: Stargate is my favorite show ever). I actually loved it. The writer absolutely nailed all the characters and it was pretty much perfect.

I read that, too. It was pretty okay. Needed more Stargates.

Okay, I'll keep it in mind if I ever get the urge to read MLP:FiM fanfic. Although that doesn't seem very likely, as I never really get the urge to read ANY fanfiction....

Well, there's always vintage Power Rangers.

Or Panty and Stocking, if you want to go the other direction.

Or Hale + Guu, if you want to go yet another direction....

(Actually, I'd suggest Guu out of the three of those...it's not as well known, but anyone who sees it over your shoulder will most certainly say "what the hell is that?!?")

I understand, but I'd like to know: were you crying FROM the laughter, or in spite of it (out of confused terror)?

Pretty much any anime does this too, at least in the original Japanese. They don't always translate it directly. I'm not sure whether it's an anime trope, or whether kids in Japan really talk in 3rd person all the time to sound cute. I know that people of other ages intentionally talk a specific way to fit into a stereotype that they like.

But yeah, in America it is most DEFINITELY a television construct. Grown adults trying to sound like little tykes.

Oh, no. I won't judge any song until I hear it. But given the production quality of the rest of the original MLP series, it's pretty obvious that their songs would be even lamer.

And for the record, Powerpuff Girls had a Beatles-themed musical episode. After seeing that, I have a lot more confidence in their ability to create other musical episodes. Television needs more spontaneous vocal singing. It just needs to be good as well; that's the problem.

Ahhhh, my final exam is finally over. Maybe this week I will have time for pretty ponies. icon_razz.gif

My realization:

The old series was bad because it had no integrity. The only purpose it served was as a half-hour advertisement for the toys. To put an office metaphor to it, with Hasbro as the boss and the TV series as the employee: with the old series, the employee was doing to bare minimum required to make the boss look good. The new series is working so hard, it's making people realize that the boss is lazy and useless.

With this realization, I'd like to think that all the series prior to this one don't really count. This series is the first one to take itself seriously. It's the first one that doesn't run on the theory of "these kids will watch whatever BS we give 'em, just throw some shiz together". I'd like to believe that this new series has severely raised the bar for the franchise, and if when Lauren Faust's MLP series is finished, the next person to pick up the series will have the integrity and motivation to make it something at least as good as the current series.

Just my $0.02

Lauren dropped out after season 2 was done being written though, I thought everypony was aware of that. :o

But she alone did not make the whole team, considering how many of the artists on the team have dropped in on the fan community I highly doubt that she is the only one there who knows how to make a good show, even if she was the main drive. icon_razz.gif
