Feel like crap right now.

My teacher talked about how everyone is so narrow minded, only being able to see what they're told. It felt so out of place in class today. I feel crushed, terrible, and know my narrow mind-ness can't be changed. I just want to cry.
I feel like the stupidest person in the class, just sitting there, not understanding. I probably am the stupidest person there. icon_cry.gif

Jared, just ignore it. I've found that most of the time when people call you narrow minded, they're just mad because you don't have the same opinion as they do. I've been called narrow minded for being this political party instead of that one, for not liking this certain kind of music, for disliking certain people, etc. There are times when you really are narrow minded and people try to point it out of course, but most of the time, they're just blowing hot air.

As Russ said, the term "narrow-minded" is--more often than not--something somebody throws as you simply because you refuse to agree. It's a last resort to try and make you think the same way they do. While it's hurtful at first, it's best to just ignore it simply because they aren't worth your time. If they're so busy trying to make you feel the way they do without hearing you out, they're the ones that are narrow-minded.

They're really just words. They can't generalize like that when they don't know anyone well enough to accurately make such a judgment. I'd wager that it was out of some sort of unrepressed angst that they managed to burst forth with such an accusation.

Ignore this if you want, but I'm curious. Was the teacher speaking directly to you? If so, s/he's a dick. Also, do you actually feel as though you are narrow minded? Open mindedness would be not necessarily agreeing with people, but being able to understand or at least respect their views and who they are. The two terms have nothing to do with actual agreement or disagreement on any thing. At least, that's how I see it. You may have no need to work towards open mindedness, as you may have not fully understood the term, or your teacher may be narrow minded her/himself and falsely accused you (and everyone else, by the sounds of it). But if you do truly feel as though you want to be more open minded, you only need a willingness to do so.

In regard to not understanding, you're not alone. Physics 11 is a b****.

Lastly, listen to ShadowTiger, those truly are words of wisdom.

There will always be people who are smarter than you. Lots and lots and lots of them. For everything you do, except in the rarest of cases, there will always be people better at it than you.

What does that say about you? Why, nothing at all.

The goal of a class--and of life in general, really--isn't to do better than everyone else. It's to accomplish as much as you, personally, are able to. To use a gaming analogy: focus on beating your own high score, and try not to worry about everyone else's.

Obviously this is easier advice to give than it is to follow, but I think it's worth passing on all the same.

YES!

Today was a BLAST! Russ and I played chess, I showed him all the inside goodies of Project RCS, and I gave him a hug for the first time ever. I thought it was funny how shy he is in real life. icon_biggrin.gif (In a good way!)

Today's one of the best days of my life. For realzies. God bless you Russ.

EDIT: Oh and Russ, sorry about my language today. icon_lol.gif It occurred to me later that I probably use the F bomb a bit more than you're used to at home, hahaha... If there's a next time, I'll try to work on that if it bugged you.
