I don't think there will be any clones in this game. However, I do think Luigi will return. But I think he will have a different moveset, for example the vacuum...

My guess on characters are: Star Wolf, Luigi, Olimar from Pikmin, Falcon, and Mega Man.

My other ones that I have a little bit more doubt on: Mr. Game and Watch (for some reason, I see him returning, as a secret character again), Jiggypuff, Ridley (I know people would maybe not like it but Nintendo had a lot of pushes to get this one up, secret character for sure), Pac-man, and Ganon (I see him returning, only if he goes a different moveset)

Ones I think got cut off: Falco, Pichu (obiviously), Mewtwo, Dr. Mario, Ness (Lucas is his replacement), and Marth and Roy (see Ness).

I'm guessing Luigi will be a secret character. He was in the first two Smash games. You can see that none of the four original secret characters from the original have been announced as of yet. For those of you at home who haven't been keeping track, that's Luigi, Falcon, Jiggly, and Ness. It's very possible that those four will be secret here. Yes, I know that Falcon and Ness weren't secret in Melee, but still, isn't it a bit odd that all the originals have been announced except the four orignal secret characters?

That's a pretty convincing argument, there. icon_smile.gif Personally, I don't remember who was unlockable in Melee at all, and I didn't play the first SSB, either.

I'm fine seeing all of them come back except Capt. Falcon. He's just plain annoying... I've heard him called a "locomotive." Fast, and strong; his only initial disadvantage is his horrendous recovery time if he duffs an attack. Plus his voice clips are cheeseball, and worse yet, they made the bizarre choice of using the same moveset for Ganondorf. Weird. icon_shrug.gif

Well, enough bashing Falcon. He CAN be improved. And "no clones" is music to my ears. If Ganon's in this one, he needs his own style. And a sword. icon_wink.gif

Incidentally, there haven't been any new Zelda characters announced. I'm wondering if that increases the likelihood of Ganondorf returning.

I tried to stop looking at the Dojo. Lasted for one day.

Hehe, I don't see anything wrong with it. Tidbits of fun (and often funny) details about a good upcoming game, without having to rely on the rumor mill. Personally, I find it more entertaining than syndicated newspaper comics. icon_razz.gif I just toss it in with the webcomics I check.

Good guesses. I think they're all likely.

Except for Mega Man. I don't think any speculation on a 3rd party character is a good guess unless it's based on a public hint. And by that I mean a direct quote from someone representing the project (...or a 3rd party seeking to negotiate an arrangement with Sakurai and Nintendo).

You think Mewtwo is gone? Yeah, I guess he isn't THAT popular. But unlike the others you listed, he wasn't a clone, so I thought it notable that you listed him.

I totally agree about Marth and Roy. I'll be sad to see Marth go, with his prettyboy butt-whoopin', but I do like Ike. And there are far too many Fire Emblem heroes to stick with the same two characters forever.

I think Marth will be in Brawl. There's a Fire Emblem coming out on the DS featuring Marth as the main character,

I'm hoping that all of the non-clones from Melee will return, and I hope those who were clones get a new moveset (except maybe Luigi, who seems fine enough right now). I really enjoyed having Mewtwo in Melee, and I hope Lucario appears to replace Pichu (What was the point of Pichu?). I want both Marth and Roy to reappear, because, despite that Roy is a clone, he still has some uniqueness, like his standard B move. I sure hope Ganondorf does get his own moves. He's the King of Evil for Din's sake!

Hmm... I wonder if all of the original characters (minus the secret ones) from SSB have paired up with their villains.

Mario -> Bowser
DK -> Still nothing, but I could always assume Mario is the villain (DK Jr., anyone?)
Link -> Ganondorf
Samus -> Ridley? (not sure yet if he makes an appearance)
Yoshi -> I link him to Bowser, also, for SMW2 reasons, unless Bowser Jr. makes some sort of appearance.
Kirby -> King Dedede icon_w00t.gif
Fox -> Andross (as an assist trophy)
Pikachu -> I pick Mewtwo or Deoxys, since Pokemon have no real villains.

Don't mind me. I'm just planning Brawl ideas, right now. icon_blah.gif

Anyway, enough with the new characters. I want to see veterans get confirmed now, as well as some stages. I'm pretty sure some of the confirmed new characters need to be unlocked, anyway.

Hey guys, little tidbit.

I'm not sure if anyone's mentioned it yet, but there WILL be Advance Wars assist trophies.

Mentioned offhand in a YouTube video here. (It's at 5:48 in the video)

Did you notice that they didn't confirm and F-Zero Characters yet. Maybe this week they will confirm Captain Falcon.

Wasn't it said somewhere that Eiji Aonuma (or whoever it was) confirmed that all SSBM characters will return?

Even if not, I'm sure Falcon will make a comeback.

So... today's update was basically that you can create your own stage. Looks quite neat... but I'd need to see it in action before I draw any concrete conclusions.

This update makes me happy.
Also because I never expected they'd actually do it O_O

Makes me want to make an arena battle with all 4 sides closed, and one little hole in the center. Bwahahaha.

My jaw dropped too when I saw today's update. They are really going all out in this game. And Nintendo will feature your stages if you send it to Nintendo!!! I am excited! I want everyone to play the Shoelace level! XD

I actually think this is my favorite update ever. It's not even so bad that those fan stages vanish after a day since you can remake them from memory or snapshot. Too bad we can't import custom music in though. Had some great plans for that. icon_heh.gif

I can't believe the mild reaction to the custom stage builder just announced. This is the biggest feature (even bigger than online) smash bros has ever sported. Do you realize what this means?

And to top it off,

QUOTE
"That's right! You can use your Wi-Fi connection to send stages you've made to Nintendo! (However, you can't submit repeatedly. Maybe just once per day?)

And a stage selected from the entire daily collection will be sent from Nintendo to your Wii. A stage made by someone else will come to you over the Internet once per day!"

One of the central aspects of this game is now greatly customizable by the player. This is HUGE.

Just what else can they squeeze into this game by next year!?!

STAGE BUILDER!!!

icon_omg.gif icon_omg.gif icon_omg.gif

Nintendo, you just made my day, week, month, year, lifetime! February, please come quickly enough!

Also, I noticed that the ladders are actually usable. I can't wait to bomb some Dodongos start building stages!

Just think 3 months of updates left and they are saving the best till last.

I predict playable mii's, a custom character builder/editor, megaman, a final fantasy character and world peace. OH and a cure for cancer.

Hmmm... does anyone else see how Metroid-like this screenshot is?

IPB Image

That pic alone just looks awesome. Also, I was looking at the features that are implemented so far, and I see the following:

Horizontal and Vertical moving platforms
Ice Block
Ladder
Spikes
Block with down-arrow, but I'm not sure what it does, exactly.
Conveyor Belts

I'm hoping more pieces will be added by the time Brawl comes out, because I don't see any unclimbable slopes. 45 degree slopes, I think, were climbable in Melee. Also, maybe they'll add the acid/lava feature from the Metroid levels.

Right now, I have a few stage ideas in my head:

Dr. Mario bottle - shaped like the bottle from the games, with fallthrough platforms inside. Here, brawlers have to deal enough damage to an opponent to send them flying out of the bottleneck.
Brawl Hall - Basic Smash stage, but with a corridor similar to the lower level of Hyrule Temple's stage, where players can bash their opponents enough without them going flying.
Evil Factory - Fight your opponents on conveyors, while steering clear of spikes. <--- I'm hoping Sonic Adventure DX's Final Egg stage's music is available, so I can add that music here.

EDIT: Who knows? I might make some Trinity Worlds scenes, as well.
