I like that kind of artsy crap though.

Need to find something else to play now...

Artsy game, huh? Alright, I've got one for you to try, but it's one of those things that I can't say too much about without ruining it for you. It's PC freeware...

It's called Irisu Syndrome. Triangles fall from the top of the screen, and you use the mouse to control your cursor. Left click to fire slow shots upwards, and right click to fire fast shots upwards. The way to earn points is to hit triangles to activate them and light them up, and they'll recoil (with physics) upwards from the impact. Get them to hit matching color triangles and they'll disappear when they hit the bottom to earn you points.

The story the game tells is shown to you through your high score. Play often and score high enough, and you'll get the story revealed to you. It will also generate image and text files for you to sort through to figure out the story as you continue playing and getting good enough scores.

I don't quite remember the download page, but either using Google or hitting TV Tropes should provide the correct download site. If you use TV Tropes to find it, though, be careful you don't look too far into it or you might spoil it for you. Really amazing game, though, and I absolutely loved how the story ended.

Let me know if you give it a try, and tell me how you like it when you're done. It's one of those things where it's fun to see how each person experiences and interprets it.

Yeah, I got it, played for about an hour, couldn't consistently get any score higher than a 50 or so. Call me crazy, but I don't have the patience for this. Extremely high difficulty level + Controls that are absolute ass = Pain. You have only vague control over where the blocks land and the game punishes you for even tiny mistakes with near-instant game overs. Occasionally I get lucky and can get the score pretty high (level 7 is my record I think) but it's pure luck whether I get there or not.

Maybe if I played for dozens of hours I'd finally get lucky enough to get the score high enough to see the story, but I have other games I'd much rather spend time on instead. Sorry.

How far in the story did you get? Did it start generating image and text files for you to go through in the game folder? It ends up doing some really neat stuff that I didn't know you could program a game to do by the time you finish.

I got the ending with the news report where they find Edo's body, though that's only because I did so abysmally. I also got the picture with the two boys inked out and a few text files with cryptic letters.

The truly amazing part of the game is what happens to the last person. If you really don't want to get to that point by yourself, I'll describe the trick in a spoiler. (You really should see it for yourself, though. The shock of it is the best part.)

Spoiler

If you do exceptionally well, you unlock an upgraded version of the game, with better graphics and everything. Also, I think it does an alternate take on the story or something, but I'm not sure. I never did well enough to unlock it, I just managed to finish the initial story.

If you're still looking for something fun to play, it's not that artsy, but I'd recommend Bunny Must Die. Fun game, beautiful graphics, and an excellent choice if you like Metroid-style games. It's initially in Japanese, but I think romhacking.net has an English patch you can apply to it so you can read it.

If you want to see what it's like, raocow did a full LP of it a while back on YouTube.

Working on Adventure Two in Diddy Kong Racing right now. It's a fantastic game! It has the same quirkiness as MarioKart but a much stronger focus on player skill. I never got to play the game as a kid, so I'm thankful that my roommate was able to hook me up.

Just finished Disc 3 of Final Fantasy IX, so I've only got the last dungeon to go before I'm done, not including any grinding I want to do before I go trekking in there. You know, things would have been so much simpler if Garland could have kept his damn mouth shut to Kuja, then nobody would be in the big mess they're in right now...

I also downloaded a few new Blitz Sonic stages. Yeah, the different engines all suck and make Sonic feel like he's running on ice, but I think that if I set up my PC controller to work like I'm playing Mega Man Legends (basically, tank controls where the left stick controls the character and the right stick controls the camera), I might be able to make it somewhat bearable. A few of these stages look very well made, it's just the crappy engine and movement control that makes them bad. I feel if you have to use the debug space jump feature at any time to complete the level, it's a failure and the developer should be ashamed for releasing it. Then again, I seem to be rather strict on my opinion, given a lot of people seem to like these even with the few screw-ups.

Anyways, after FFIX, I've only got FFX-2 left before I've finished every Final Fantasy game prior to XI. (I don't own XII, nor can I emulate it, and I don't own a PS3 to do XIII on) I'm not sure if I want to go with Grandia or Guardian's Crusade afterwards. Then again, maybe I'll go with an Action-RPG like Threads of Fate next, just for a change, while still sticking to my study on RPG design.

But is it me or is resident evil 5 hard?

It's not really hard, the game just pretends to be survival horror (even though it's a run and gun) so ammo is scarce.

I started playing DOOM again, a few years ago I stopped playing it halfway through because it was freaking me out too much.

Now that I'm playing it again, I can honestly say that the game still freaks me out, but I can handle it a lot better now.
I have DOOM II, but I'm not going to play it until I finish the first one.
Screw the third one, seriously...

Started Zero's Escape: Virtue's Last Reward (the sequel to 9 Doors 9 Persons 9 Hours) for the PSVita (also available on the 3DS).

So far, I have to say the game plays a whole lot better than its predecessor by leaps and bounds. It's a lot more refined this time around. I like that there is full voice acting (both in English and in Japanese) and the developers put more effort to add more action and thrill into this game unlike the artsy 999.

A great game to play on my Vita before Persona 4 Golden comes out.

Welp, shunted everything aside and decided to go for the second Phoenix Wright game, Justice for All. Two cases down in that, two to go. It's got a better flow than the first admittedly, but it's still plagued by slow text. Tried to get a save file working so that I could force the text to go faster, but never could get it to work, so I'm dealing with it.

Also Assassin's Creed III soon. When that comes out, every other video game franchise can take a hike until I'm done with it. icon_heh.gif
