Curse you Jared and Sephiroth and your smexy DoR screens. icon_razz.gif

Jared, this is one of the reasons why I find LttP water unattractive - the river. The grass looks like it's floating above.

Sephiroth, I'd say second I love how the screen looks so Nintendo quality.

Jared, personally I think the screen is a little busy. At the top left, I don't know what it is just above the mountain, but it doesn't make any sense. Is it a bench? Do we have a house to the north? If not, I would remove it.

On any other note though, pallete question time.

You know what? I really like this screen, it looks very natural. One thing I'd say would make it look better is to have dirt border the river rather than grass, but that's up to you.

As for river colors, either or. I'm somewhat partial to the first color though. They're both good in their own regard.

I like the second one better, but I think the river is too saturated, something between the
two rivers should be just right. (More saturation than the first, less than the second)

I was impresed by your Dark World map MoscowModder!

I think this is looking pretty good, especially with the centerpiece added. Yeah, it's done all the time, but it just looks really good, I think. icon_smile.gif

Yay? Nay? Comments and critiques, please. icon_smile.gif
I like this shot quite a bit, but it just seems like something is missing. Perhaps some rocks, or small trees to add a bit of detail.

I like what you did with the palette. While comparing the 2 next to each other, it looks like the colors of the old image seem to be a bit washed out, compared to the new one. I like the new one quite a bit.

I tried my hand at editing the palette. The first one, as previously stated, seems too washed out and the second one, in my opinion, is too dark.

This is what I came up with. icon_smile.gif

I like your palettes always very much, Moo. Good job.
I'd use this Sephirot, it gives a great feeling to your screen and that type of scenery in general. Also, I've spotted a little tile error on the water. You missed the closing tile on the water's shadow where the river first bends (on the top of the river next to the grass)

I'm nearly done with my Dark world, but I feel it needs a *lot* of renovation and/or redesign. Many areas feel kind of bland and/or just plain weird. If you have any suggestions as to what to improve or what improvements to make, let me know. I don't mind constructive criticism as that is obviously the point of this thread.

Things to note:
1. 5 regions in the world have different palettes, but only one can be shown on the map. If the watery area in the North-West is a swamp with yellow-brown colors, the watery area in the North-East is frozen (winter palette), the mountain has a customized night palette, the forest in the South-East is a more vibrant green and yellow-green, and the town in the South-West uses the "bright" palette for a way-to-cheerful feel.
2. The screen south of the missing screen is only just started, so of course it has no detail.
3. Many of the screens (especially near the starting point) were made a very long time ago
4. The dungeon entrance and surrounding screen in the northern part is a placeholder (as is the blue portal near it).

Here's the map (full-size)

Looks pretty great to me. One thing that ached me is that you use two different mountain types so close to each other. I always tried to prevent that. Plus you use those fancy mountains wrong. I know since I made an entire quest with those things.

They need to be used like this:
IPB Image
You see here how I used variations in them? I always kept a certain order in these variations that could be spotted throughout an entire map. I recall there were 2 variations of each tile, I zigzagged them sort of. So the same tile could be found diagonally, or two steps horizontally or vertically, if that makes any sense.

That was horrid to make, and cost me countless hours. And some people dare claim that I don't put effort in my quests. I pity the fools.

Starting from now on I am putting ads in all of my posts to make some extra cash on the side.
IPB Image

Area isn't complete yet, as you can tell. A few items (the pillars and stone roses, mainly) are placeholders, but it's at a pretty presentable state right now. Also that is my Screenshot of the Week 339 entry, albeit slightly modified and run through a different palette.

@TK: Thanks for pointing that out! I'm using these mountains, and I don't see the variation you're talking about in the available tiles. Is there something I'm missing? Or is this a poorly-made tile group? If it can't be improved, maybe I'll just replace them with the more-recently-added LttP-style mountains.

@EZ: That map looks pretty good in general. The roses/pillars look out of place, so I'd be interested to see what you use to replace them. Also, why the ad? I'm pretty sure there must be a rule against it, so is that some kind of joke?

To the two of you, its the MC water, and who I got it from would be Radien. I will not be giving these tiles away however, due to an agreement between the two of us, which I continue to uphold to this day. Radien is the one who drew the diagonals, and I really appreciate everything he has done for my quest.
