I was actually expecting King K. Rool to appear in this one. I wonder if he might, unless the Kremling Crew is owned by Rare. But that was a really cool intro to watch! But yeah, I agree with Shoelace, entirely. Nintendo needs a new DKC-style game. At least we may get a nostalgic DKC-style level in Brawl. Barrel Cannons FTW!

In other news...anyone think that the PictoChat stage is gonna have the Flat Zone theme as one of its tracks?

So let's see, we can use items in the Target Tests, now, and five different maps for each character. Also, you can save replay data and send them to your friends! Heh. We might just have ourselves a list of high scores for Stadium mode here. I personally like the fact that there are five maps for each character. That's going to keep me busy for quite a while!

The speed runs from one character to the next are a bit "stacked" due to the fact that each character had their own target test in Melee. In Brawl, if there are ONLY five stages, then you'll be able to compare your characters' speeds head to head without having to worry about the number of targets or the terrain differences.

Dictionary.com on "Distinctive"
Nintendo shouldn't have thrown a double-meaning in there. "Distinctive" could mean "differing per character" or "differing per difficulty" in this case. But judging from the screenshots, the maps weren't made according to the character. They look like they are part of Adventure mode. Samus sticks out like a sore thumb in one of the shots. DK looks like he is in a Zelda-style stage, and Meta Knight should've had his target test(s) on the Halberd.
Unfortunately, your argument is a lot stronger than mine (in which you have screenshots to support your thoughts, as well as Nintendo's wording to back it up, and all I have is past tradition).
I sure hope that Nintendo does stick to tradition. That's all I can say.

I'm going to miss Dr. Mario
Mario is just to different.
It's been shown that alternate costumes aren't going to be all palette swaps this time around. I wouldn't be at all surprised if they included a Dr. Mario costume for Mario.
Yes, it'd still be the same character. But was Dr. Mario REALLY all that different from Mario? I even read something put out by Nintendo which pointed out the differences between the two, and almost all of them used the word "slight."
King Dedede is in

Hey, a character with a mallet that was intentionally made as a weapon.
Probably won't be enough to satisfy Master Dragon, though, as it's still technically not a hammer.
Anyway, King Dedede looks amusing. I'm happy to have the variety he may offer. We'll have to wait and see whether he's worth playing.

Some. Not all.
So yeah, GG Kirby fans. Enjoy and such. Somehow I was dreaming of them releasing the SSBB Demo all night; Played it in my dreams, and really enjoyed it. Falco was in it. He had like, eight different skins. At least five of them were from previous game iteration skins, in which he looked more like slippy than Falco. Disgusting.

I see Kirby's wearing King Dedede's hat!
I think all of the major Kirby characters that can be made as Brawl fighters are done, now. Time to go look at other series to see who's addable, now. Although, it probably wouldn't hurt to add a few more assist fighters from the Kirby series.
