People said the same thing about Toon Link when the Spirit Train stage was revealed.  I feel like Sakurai could make it work.

Difference being you can literally kill Ridley, and have him be a CPU on your side. Spirit Train Toon Link is just kinda there, plus, theoretically, him and Toon Link ARE two different Links.

No, this is incorrect, it's a free DLC if you own and register copies of both versions of the game. For everybody else is a paid DLC.

Any links confirming it? I can't find anything about it being paid DLC for those without both games. All I hear if you have to buy both games and register them on Club Nintendo to get it.

I haven't seen confirmation on that, either. But it makes sense ... I'd be pretty upset if they locked players out of a character, even though I fully intend to buy the Wii version, too. I have to hope they realize what an awful move that would be.

How would that work for people that didn't get the DLC?  Would you be locked out of fighting against that character?  Or would there have to be an update for you to download from the eShop?  Or was Mewtwo, and future DLC, already on the game to begin with, and we'd be unlocking content we already paid for?

Most likely just an update patch, those aren't uncommon. In fact Nintendo's already done those a few times already.

Since DLC is confirmed now (And Ridley deconfirmed ;_; ), who else are you hoping for?

If there's any new character I'd like to see besides Ridley, it's K.Rool.

I have a feeling they might add some characters that will only work in matches involving New Nintendo 3DS and/or Wii u, but won't be available in matches involving the original Nintendo 3DS. Like Ice Climber's for example.

Here is a twitter from Nintendo of Europe: "WARNING! Mewtwo arrives in spring 2015! Register both versions in a promotional period & get him for free! #SmashBros"

Source: https://twitter.com/...0543744/photo/1

I highly doubt Mewtwo is gonna be available only for a small period of time. What's the point of investing time in developing him (model, animations, attacks, speed, balance) if he's only a bonus-exclusive character?

But Mewtwo's announcement, as a DLC, is kinda funny, because it also contradicts two separate replies Sakurai made in two different interviews.

1. Sakurai said some weeks ago that Mewtwo wasn't in the game because they couldn't reuse Melee's aged data. This was pure bullshit, as some Brawl hackers pointed out in r/smashbros then, because Brawl reused a lot of data from Melee, which also reused data from Smash 64, and that Smash 4 3DS's hacking also reveals Smash 4 reuses data from Brawl and even have similar file formats. How could then Corneria (to cite an example they said) be exactly the same in Melee and Brawl, only with higher quality textures in the latter's case? In fact, many people suggested that Bowser's new moveset for Smash 4 is as a result of technical issues when porting his Brawl data to Smash 4.

But now that Mewtwo is in the game, it means that either: a) they found out a way to reuse him or b) he's made from scratch (just like Project M's Mewtwo) so he was covering his ass or c)he was just lying all this time, waiting for the DLC's announcement. Couldn't he have made a different reply? Maybe he could have said that he was scrapped because of time complains, and that he could appear latter as a DLC or that he didn't want him in the game. Which goes me to

2. Why is Mewtwo a DLC?

Didn't Sakurai said that pre-release announced DLC/on-disc DLC is a big NO? They have announced an important DLC before Smash U's release.

Either they started implementing Mewtwo too late into Smash 4's development, or they intentionally removed him from the roster to force people to buy both copies of the games and/or pay more money for the full game.

Because I don't buy they're gonna use several months just to make a single character. They're reusing his Melee data, or if they aren't, them they have a lot more human and technical resources than the Project M people will ever have. Even if they're taking their time for balancing the character, didn't they also balanced the whole game before? It should be easy for them at this point.

Maybe Mewtwo is just a part of a big DLC, but the way they have managed and announced it bugs me. At this point I don't accept any of their excuses, because I always find a contradiction. In fact I don't buy that the Ice Climbers were scrapped because of hardware limitations. If in a few weeks/months they announce a DLC for New 3DS and Wii U users (contradicting Sakurai's stance at both the 3DS and Wii U having the same roster) I wouldn't be surprised.

But yeah, Mewtwo in Smash 4, shut up, no criticism allowed.

1. Sakurai is a known troll.  So, he very well could have said that it wouldn't be in SSB4 knowing there was a possibility that it would get added after.  Plus, he probably didn't want to give people too much hope just in case Mewtwo didn't make it.  Also, perhaps what he more meant was regarding to the Mega Mewtwos?  They'd probably want to use at least one of those for its smash attack, and that wouldn't be able to be pulled from Melee.

2. Also, it's not pre-release DLC.  SSB4 has been in out in Japan on the 3DS for over a month.  Also, I completely buy the fact that there could have been limitations that prevented Ice Climbers on the 3DS.  They have to reboot the whole system to get more RAM for SSB4.  If that doesn't scream the fact that they're using the system to its limits, I don't know what does.

Then don't get him. Stop complaining about every decision they make.

This.

On one hand, the fact that you have to own a Wii U as well as the 3DS (not one or the other) to get Mewtwo at no charge is a MAJOR letdown, since I have no plans to get a Wii U.

On the other hand, I wouldn't mind paying for Mewtwo...

-No, Sakurai first said (I think around E3 2013) that Mewtwo maybe could have a chance in Smash 4. Then around Smash 4 3DS' release (iirc) he said he wasn't in the final roster because of Melee's data rot, which is false. He could have still maintained his original answer, or maybe he could have made a completely different reply, but at this point I'm tired of his trolling and the way he plays with players' emotions and expectations.

-It's pre-release DLC for Smash U users. Not everybody have a 3DS. There are a lot of people who can or will only play the U version. Now Sakurai and Nintendo are saying that either they buy a copy of the version for a console they have zero interest or they will buy an incomplete version of the game with an intended character be later added as a paid DLC.

DLC is fine when it's made after the game's release. Look at Mario Kart 8. New content is still being made and available months after the game's release. That's fine, it keeps players being able to choose wheter they want to pay a little more for new content for a game they originally liked or not. Mewtwo's DLC isn't, it's a way to force people to spend more money for the final version. Considering Smash 4 3DS has sold more copies than the Wii U itself, I wonder why.

-I'm not saying that the original 3DS can feature 4 Ice Climbers. I'm saying that I no longer buy that it was the (only) reason they were "scrapped". Yeah, I buy the 3DS version and find out that they aren't in the game, but don't worry, I can buy the New 3DS or the Wii U and a copy of Smash U and play them! Nearly anything can happen now. I seriously want to eat my words.

If anything, it's to increase Wii U system sales. The 3DS version doesn't need help selling, nor does the Wii U game for those that already have a Wii U.

The question to me is whether Nintendo is going to go the exclusive content route (Pokemon kinda does this) for buying certain games in an attempt to gain more sales or if they're just being nice to those who plan to buy both games and will have Mewtwo as paid DLC. If's it's the second, they really weren't clear with it.

Also, I personally don't like announcing DLC before any game is out for everyone. Mario Kart 8 handled the DLC perfectly, Hyrule Warriors and this, eh... not so much. People should be playing through the game before we are hearing about DLC for it.
