Okay, how does this look? And Giggidy, I used a palette from your tileset. I think I got the water right. Also, I added the MC mountains, which I am now in the process of adding the Pure terrains to.

What do you all think?

That's a really nice mix of tiles. The tileclash is kept at a minimum and I like how that detailed Pure grass mixes with the tMC grass. Good job!

Thanks Sheik91! As I've said before I am open to any criticism, as that is what helped me improve upon my flaws and overall design style. icon_smile.gif Okay, now to show the fixed palette as well as a new screen.

Same screens as before but this time there should be no tile errors and the shallow water is fixed.

New Screen. I noticed there are a few minor tile errors in the water, I'll fix that and that'll smash my newbie history with the water.

Opinions? Questions? Comments? I'm open! icon_deformed.gif

Edit: Oops, forgot to copy the new screen! icon_rolleyes.gif it's fixed now.

Is that...grass tiles? I see nothing wrong with the palette, but those shallow water tiles don't even look like water. They look like grass. icon_razz.gif

The new palette looks much better. I had a problem with the colour of the water before but now it looks fine.
About the shallow water: on the grass it looks good, next to the water I'd recommand using Giggidy's shallow water tiles.
In Evile's MZC tileset, there's BS/MC waterborders that are edited to look a lot better than your's. You should try them out.
About those tMC trees: I'd place them in straight rows in almost any instance. For example, the way that one tree breaks the line in the second screen looks wrong. It'd improove the compostion (the balance and the harmony esp.) if you moved it a tile to the left. However, the way you handled it on the mountain in screen 3 looks really good, I would've done it the same probably.

That looks beautiful! If I might make a recommendation, maybe put a statue or a fountain where the roads cross?

Or is that too cliché?

Edit: Just for meme's sake, could you maybe have an old man somewhere in there that says "Selhera rises again!" or something like that?

It's a good screen and everything, Yoshi. But in all honesty: been there, done that. It's a tad bit boring by now.
Might I suggest you work on a different area maybe? Try to make a Lake Hylia (or Selhera Lake for all I care) or a volcano. Maybe a snowy peak? Or a desert?

It's not like your game has to start near a forest or a field. You could even make a game without a forest or a field and that'd be perfectly fine.

You aren't bad with screendesign and such, but I have a feeling that you are holding back yourself by remaking the same areas over and over again.

Selhera Lake sounds like a good idea, I'll try making it icon_smile.gif

I'll see what I can do with the fountain, as for the old man, that's totally gonna happen.

You could also make a game without Selhera at all. But that's your call of course icon_wink.gif I'm interested in how your lake will turn out. Would you mind posting a screen or a map once you've made some screens of it?

I'm nearly done with my Dark world, but I feel it needs a *lot* of renovation and/or redesign. Many areas feel kind of bland and/or just plain weird. If you have any suggestions as to what to improve or what improvements to make, let me know. I don't mind constructive criticism as that is obviously the point of this thread.

Things to note:
1. 5 regions in the world have different palettes, but only one can be shown on the map. If the watery area in the North-West is a swamp with yellow-brown colors, the watery area in the North-East is frozen (winter palette), the mountain has a customized night palette, the forest in the South-East is a more vibrant green and yellow-green, and the town in the South-West uses the "bright" palette for a way-to-cheerful feel.
2. The screen south of the missing screen is only just started, so of course it has no detail.
3. Many of the screens (especially near the starting point) were made a very long time ago
4. The dungeon entrance and surrounding screen in the northern part is a placeholder (as is the blue portal near it).

Here's the map (full-size)

Jared, personally I think the screen is a little busy. At the top left, I don't know what it is just above the mountain, but it doesn't make any sense. Is it a bench? Do we have a house to the north? If not, I would remove it.

On any other note though, pallete question time.

Yep, it's a bench. So people can sit! :-D Thanks for answering icon_smile.gif

I like the new one better, but with the old water. The new one is a little too dark and deep looking.
