So... I beat it. And I must say, I'm starting to have some mixed feelings. It was a great game, but parts of the ending story wise felt lacking. Not all, but a few. Maybe it's something I gotta reflect on before making a final decision on its placement among my favorites list. Last time I jumped straight into a placement was with TP, with me claiming it as my second-favorite Zelda behind OoT. Well obviously, that got changed around, with TP lowering to #4 and OoT being surpassed by ALttP and WW after more reflection.

I will say this. It was a damn fun game, though it had its issues in areas. There were parts of the game that were incredible, lovely additions, and I'd like to see return in each subsequent Zelda game. Such as the dash meter and the upgrade system. The majority of the bosses were more clever and intelligent than most of the rest of the bosses in the series, though one or two,
such as...
were either basic or could easily be implemented in a non-Wii Zelda game without losing too much in translation, if any.

The dungeons were pretty strong, though at least one had a... less-useful-than-desired dungeon item. They could have improved on that, but the dungeon itself almost made me forget about that. Almost. The story itself had some wonderful twists, but then it seemed to get somewhat anticlimactic towards the end; it seemed to open more holes than close them. But it did shed plenty of light on the rest of the series. It was a pretty damn good game. Again, I'mma take some time to reflect before I place it anywhere on my list of games, as well as review it, but it was worth every penny.

Oh, and one last thing... I did some chatting with Animus, and we theorized that...
End of game spoilers

So, 20 hearts is the max? Excluding certain upgrades?

20 hearts is the max with all the upgrades, unfortunately. Would've been interesting to see more than 20 hearts up there.

I went ahead, and restarted the game with the, "Hero mode", And the game does, seem a lot harder now, there is no getting hearts out of grass, jugs, you know the random stuff, you would break, to get life, in the hero mode you really have to depend on potions,
And there was some changed dialog In the beginning, of the game, so far thats all I've noticed,

I'll be working the game slowly, My mother has the system now <_<..She got a-hold my Animal crossing: city folk..,
And i know her she'll be playing forever v_v, Oh well, lol.

Well geez, it's nice to know that all you young people have plenty of time to finish the game ALREADY! Me being a senior in college, I don't have nearly as much time for it as I would like. However, I will say that at this point, I have completed the third temple and am on my way to the fourth. So... I have a long way to go. BUT--

I am loving it. The only thing I don't care for are the save points... Now I can't play up until 5 minutes before I have to leave for work or class or rehearsal because I may not get to a save point in time! Sucks...

I'm so happy that it's so... different? It's so different from anything Zelda I've played. Perhaps that's because it's on the Wii (I had Twilight Princess on GC). Anyway... I look forward to the rest of it! When I can find time... But winter break is coming up! Perfect!

PS-- I LOVE that Link and Zelda have a thing going, like I've always wished for. They must be together!! They must!

Over 40 hours in and I'm finally up to the
7th dungeon

I can't imagine there being another dungeon after this... unless people are assuming an earlier place as a dungeon. I hear there's meant to be 8 dungeons?

I just finished it. Nintendo compensates the "Ocarina of Time #4" effect with a legendary story. Yes, legendary. It's not just the same rehashed crap from the past 20 games. It touches on the basics (save the princess, link, master sword, bow and arrows!) but does something completely different with it all. The gameplay (literally, in regards to the wiimote and the wiimotion plus integration) is pretty great. The only awkward things were swimming and rolling bombs but the tech can only do so much. That said, the actual game itself? It's a zelda game. There's dungeons, Sword n Shield usage, and enemies to poke holes in. Graphics? If you want realism go look out your goddamned window. The music was mundane in parts but that's not to say it didn't fit the environment like a glove.

There's my summary. I know someone's gonna complain about spoilers so here's another one: Eastmost Peninsual is the secret.

Controls: 9/10
Gameplay: 7/10
Story: 11/10
Graphics: 8/10
Music: 10/10
Worth the $50/$70?: ∞^2

How does that work? The story is literally, literally not even that great. This is true fanboyism. I hate to sound like a troll, but it really is, and I have read the entire Skyward Sword plot line thing on Zeldadungeon and I would give it like 7/10. Seriously, and you in no way elaborate on why you think the story is great enough to break all rating scales that ever existed.

I'd say that hey, I'm not playing it non-stop either, but that has less to do with how much time I have and more to do with the fact that I only play it when I'm specifically in the mood (which happens about twice every three days). And I don't play it for 10 hours straight, either.

I'm with you on the "different" part. I am quite happy with classic 3D Zelda, but SS seems to look at the formula and change whatever it needs to, matching all the unique aspects of SS's game concept. In many ways it's doing the sort of thing that OoT did for the N64.

I understand why you've gotten annoyed with save points, but me, I'm a seasoned RPG player, and 3/4ths of those use a save point system. So I'm quite used to having to find save points. The downside is that you can't do it any time. The upside is that you know you will appear EXACTLY where you were when you quit the game. And since SS has save points in dungeons, that means you'll never have to start over at the beginning of the dungeon.

However, bird statues in dungeons also have a "go to the outside" function, so you aren't giving up the ability to return to the entrance when you save.

So anyway, cheer up, it has its advantages. icon_smile.gif You just have to gauge how much time you'll have to play, and where the nearest save point is.

I kinda like the idea of them having "a thing," but the part I like best is that Zelda is more relateable and LIKEABLE in Skyward Sword, so I have a reason to root for it. Making her a regular townsperson (mostly) was a great way to do that, and they made her much less annoying than Ilia was.

In OoT Link had just met her and she was gone most of the game. In WW she, um, wasn't herself most of the game. And in TP, she had plenty of appearances, but she was pretty... well... busy. She spent most of the game dealing with her kingdom's major problems.

In fact, seeing as she was the only royal there, she was pretty much a queen in TP, more than a princess.. the same goes for the game's namesake. Funny how that worked out. icon_blah.gif

Since I've been done with Skyward Sword for a couple of days...I can't really say what hasn't already been said. I think this is one of those games I have to nitpick to complain about, which I don't like doing.

...it was totally great...all of it...

Something cool, if you have weight wear (clothes, wristbands, etc. etc. that adds weight to that body part), it can really get your arms into shape.

Personally, I was a bit leery of save spots in Skyward Sword when I first started playing as well, but I think they worked out well in the end. I can't say I overly loved them, but since they had other benefits, it sort of made sense. But it's sort of ironic that they added them in dungeons in Skyward Sword since Skyward Sword's dungeons didn't span out over large distances, so going back to places in SS wasn't nearly as bad as TP, which didn't have anything like that. icon_razz.gif

As far as Link and Zelda, I liked the romantic interests between them, and like Radien, I'm really glad that they actually made her into a good, relatable character. I think they've sort of been pushing her a little more recently (like in Spirit Tracks, where she was a huge focus as well). I think she's a good character, and she was definitely agreeable in Skyward Sword. In fact, I would say she was one of the best characters in a list of otherwise uninteresting side characters. icon_unsettled.gif

I've always liked all the Zeldas, tbh. (By Zelda, I mean the character). This one if probably one of the best versions of her. I too liked the whole romantic connection between Link and Zelda, plus Groose was nice for some comedy here and there.

Just finished the game, a little over 41 hours, with 19.5 hearts (still two HCPs to source out, and then a dowsing rod sweep for any boxes I missed (I never dowsed for hints. Defeats the purpose).

I was going to write this in spoiler tags, but I assume most people have finished it, and if they haven't they shouldn't be in this thread anyway! >:{

Overall impression was positive. Puzzles were great, items were fun (a little on the light side though), the pouch/upgrade system was a nice addition (though why anyone would need five pages of items in the check is beyond me). I loved the whip (I loved the grappling hook in WW too), but they should have made more use of it. As far as "wow" factor goes, top marks from me. The timeshift stones were cool. Koloktos was one of the best bosses of the whole series. I also liked how the bosses seemed tougher than the previous games - they could take more of a beating. I giggled when I saw the Kraken Tentalus. So cute! Right out of Monsters Inc.

There were a few things that annoyed me; there were some control issues for starters, and swimming was an absolute nightmare. Collecting all the grabitude crackles and getting rewarded with a 9000 rupee wallet didn't impress me. It's the end of the fricken game - I've already bought everything! I'd completely cleaned out Beedle's ship early on in the game, but it sure was nice of him to give me 50% off my next item after returning his bug. Thanks Beedle - you've got no f***ing stock! The fight with Akuma Demise, unlike every single other boss in the game, had no puzzle element whatsoever (unless I was just doing it wrong), and the "curse" was a disappointingly cheap way to tie the series together (though there really wasn't much else they could do, with so many completely disjointed titles). His arena was also really boring :/ When Faron broke her part of the song into tadpoles I felt like breaking her face into tadpoles.

Overall, thoroughly enjoyable... but loooooong.
