How to beat volcano boss? Need any special items, or is it just timing of hits?

Once I go down, I seem to be trapped. Didn't find any areas to bomb or stairs or anything. Have to F6-Save to get out. Anything I'm missing?

More than a few places to get this stepladder glitch, mostly on diagonal bits of land (gotten stuck in the swamp area as well). Yes I'm stuck in this picture. Have to F6-Continue to get out.

Eleven hearts, a hookshot and a blue ring later and I hit another brick wall. again. Apparently this guy says the Crypt's boss key is under a block somewhere. All I need is what floor the boss key is under and not the exact location.

This is a pretty good quest so far. no bugs to report...yet.

The boss key is on the bottom floor. It's kinda rough to find, considering how freakishly big the darn Crypt is. Basically, to put you on the right path, remember the largest entrance to the Crypt, with that long vertical gray stone walkway above the whole graveyard maze outside? The place that leads to, near the top, is a large stone opening. It's the biggest entrance. That there is a fairly straightforward descent to the Boss Key. The entrance that leads to that whole area is on the screen to the south of that, in the open grave. Though that's only a tour of what the door is. When you walk in there, you have to go through the door to the south. It's oddly straightforward from there.

Oh, if you have the hammer, it'll be a lot easier to go down there. I changed one of the combos to a Grave (Pound) combo that will act as a shortcut.

Also made it impossible to walk "around" the stairs on that screen to get the key directly to the left of it, with some clever layering.

Also changed a few enemies in the Volcano to something a bit more interesting. Just a bit.

Odd room here. If I come from above, I get frozen in place, have to F6. From the side, can't get to the left door due to some invisible wall or something

Also, any way to get that medal in the southwest corner of the twilight forest area?

The HP outside of Vines I assume there are a few different exits, one of which should lead to that



Need a way out of this room. Doors don't open after taking out all the enemies

Found out why. There was an unwalkable block all over layer 1. Removed it.

Nope. icon_unsettled.gif There's actually absolutely nothing there. That room always mystified me. So I blocked it off. No reason to go there.

Yes. In the Cave of Mirrors, go kinda west/northwest. In the new version you'll get from this or the next post, there will be a Pols Voice (that hopping cat thing vulnerable to arrows.) There will be a bombable wall on the west wall. I'm surprised he made it so hard to find. I marked it a little with some scoff marks to make it a little bit more easy to see.

Oddly, no, there's nothing there anymore. There used to be a key there when the vines were alive, but now it's just a remainder.

Done and done. Also made those pound blocks a little easier to distinguish. Otherwise, it's just frustrating to oblivious players.

So does that guy in the Mirror Cave have any relevance when he mentioned something about getting a leaf from a tree?

Luckily you can buy keys if needed. But I think there's another item that should take care of that anyway.

Here's a question: Are there damage-combo proof boots in this quest? If so, where are they?

The secret combos here are messed up.

There's an invisible solid wall here. This is after you step on the switch.

Edit: There are a few enemies with their colours all screwy. They are: L2 Ropes (wrong palette), Splitting Darknuts (both shielded and unshielded), Blue Darknuts after their shield has been smashed by the Hammer, Bats, Gleeok, and a couple others.

Eventually, you'll get to the third floor. When you reach a tiny, tiny room with a teleporter, don't take the teleporter. Check the walls of that room.

... yes. This is true. Although I did recently reduce their hit points and damage dealt. I really did. If you're having trouble now, I don't even want to think about how it would have been before the reduction.

Nope, sorry. Spikes and the like are simply damage combos. A "boots" item would be global, rather than based on the combo.

All bugs addressed, except for that Hall of Mirrors Dmap title thing. I'm tempted to just remove the floor from each Dmap title. Very tempted indeed. That place is a complete mess of Dmap spacing.

Going inside this potion shop will instantly eject Link as soon as he enters it.

More things I was a little curious about:


Anything with that rock in the upper right corner? From the Lens, looks like you can push it, but can't burn the bush next to it.

I think putting a portal to take the player back to the entrance may help. Kind of a long walk out otherwise. The shortcut out is done with the bow and flippers.

Should always keep the heart piece in there. I tried clearing the Dam before coming here, and that heart piece wasn't there anymore.

Room layout is kinda pointless given you have to have flippers to reach this room. Consider putting some kind of bridge a couple rooms to the left to let the player reach this room in the first place. Otherwise it's a lot of backtracking to come back

Falling from the upper right corner hole in the floor above got me stuck in this wall

After taking out the Gleeok on 2F and coming back to the stairs, as the screen transitioned left to the room with the stairs, I got moved onto some invisible platform and stairs, leading me to get stuck in this wall. At least an F6 Continue gets me to those stairs

Fixed! Also reminded me to have the L4 Potion be the L4 potion, rather than another L1 potion. Ick. Fixed. x)

Yeah, I dunno what was over there. There's no warp data on the screen at all, and no undercombo to it either. So I took the flag out. icon_shrug.gif Useless little thing.

I provided a nice little fix for it. I extended the water two tiles up right past the chest, so you would need the flippers to get it. It's not that it "lasts" between the lake being empty and the lake being full, but that they're two entirely different areas that just happen to look identical. So they would have been two totally separate HCPs. So now the chest in the empty lake version is inaccessible and empty, and when you get the flippers in the full lake version of the area, you can swim across the little bit of water to the chest! Great.

Oh, actually, that block in the lower right corner is actually walkable. It's floating there on the surface. I just walked over it and grabbed the HCP.

Oddly, there was absolutely nothing in that room. So I added a few enemies and added a warp to the floor below. Probably shouldn't have. Seriously, the majority of the Excavation remains a mystery to even me. It's just an odd place where I feel like he used an entire floor for nothing.

Yeah, see this one I can't find. Where is the floor above? The "floor above" that I see is the overworld, and there are no holes to fall into.

Finally finished Marathon. Oh gosh that was one long level. Missed a couple HP's in there. Also missed one right above entrance to Vines. One other one I don't know where it is. Maybe Deku Tree?


To clarify some of the prior pictures:

I was referring to the room in the first picture. No way to cross into the room in the 2nd picture with the HP without flippers. Maybe some floating blocks as a bridge in the first picture?

The place in the first picture is accessed from a cave near Lon Lon Mountains using Pegasus Boots. You get the hint about Subrosia in this cave. If you fall into the hole on the very right from the direction in the picture, you'll get stuck in the wall in the 2nd picture.

Consider removing that block at the bottom and replacing it with a shutter door at the top so that it's easier to take out all the Dodongos without having to go in and out of the room a lot. Actually, after getting the HP, I get stuck since I can't reach all 3 Dodongos from the tunnel.

Maybe some design flaws in Tower that allows shortcuts to get Titan's Mitt and Boss Key.
First picture you can sneak across the star switch to reach the hole. Makes the level hint pointless
Second picture you can trigger the switch to get to the other side of that screen and then reenter that room to get to the correct hole to reach the Boss Key. Thus no need to access using Titan's Mitt on 5F. Just blocking off the outer perimeter would do.
