They also say that Sonic is hard to control, in that first demo that Exate linked to.
That's not a surprise to me. Considering Sonic's speed, he must have low traction. He might be lighter than Mario, as well, maybe a bit.
Beefster: Melee started with 14 characters. (all eight from the original + Bowser, Peach, Zelda, Ice Climbers, Captain Falcon, and Ness). They might increase the number to 15 or leave it the same.

It's not as flat though, so I wonder if it'll still become as popular as Hyrule Temple.
Needs more giant stages!

Anyways, another reason for the delay is rumored to be because the online features are not all finished or working 100%. They look to be polishing that, and also rumored to be adding a headset feature. One can only wish right.
By the way, today's update was sweet.

It reminds me of Rainbow Cruise from Melee a bit, but considering they're comparing the stage to Hyrule Temple, that must mean it's not a scrolling type stage. I like the Ultimate Chimera addition. From what I've seen, the Ultimate Chimera seems to play the same role as in Mother 3. I'm curious as to whether or not the Giant Pokey Statue will also play a role.
As for rumors, I know that's all they are at the moment, but if they are really developing a headset for the Wii, that may mean online voice chat for some games. But, I think the polishing of the online play seems more likely.

THIS
IS
CAKETOWN
Awesome stage, but it doesn't have enough land to be as good as Hyrule Temple in Melee. Of course, I really want to see Termina: Great Bay make a comeback. That stage was AMAZING.

I'd much rather see a comeback of Flat Zone.

(though admittedly, they wouldn't be as blocky this time around)

A few more things to learn.
Some are our confirmed Norfair stage, Samus' super missiles from Smash forward+b look like actual super missiles now, etc. Enjoy.

I enjoyed watching Pit in action, and it impressed me. However, his Final Smash just looked... lame.
