On the topic of the Ritos, I think what's most likely is that Aonuma was like, "Hmm, bird people would be cool in this game... Oh yeah, I already made bird people!  I can just re-use that idea, name and all."  The design being completely different (and coincidentally resembling Fokkas...) sells that to me, since gorons and zoras never dramatically change design like that.  I'm sure they don't care at all about the timeline in coming up with the main idea, but still take its events into consideration- hence the constant continuity we see.  The thing that says Decline timeline over Adult timeline to me is the voice-over in the trailer saying, "The history of the royal family is also the history of the Calamity Ganon, a primal evil that has endured over the ages..." which does not sound like Adult Timeline, where they only had to deal with Ganon twice and then old Hyrule never returns.  Especially when there's no royal family in The Wind Waker. :P  Meanwhile, Decline has: OoT, ALttP, Oracles, ALBW, Zelda 1, and the threat of his return in Zelda 2.

Thought: What with Breath of the Wild having a manual jump and (presumably) no more autojump, I wonder how many of us are going to get used to this new control scheme, then go back to a previous 3D Zelda and try to press a button to jump when platforming.

That's basically what happened to me when I played Ocarina of Time (my first game was Link's Awakening)

I'm more concerned that I'll forget constantly that auto-jump isn't a thing anymore and just walk off ledges.

I figured out how this can fit into the adult timeline.

So we never accounted for the Twilight Realm in the other two timelines, yeah? Since they were cut off from Hyrule sometime before Ocarina of Time, it's safe to say their history is probably no different in those two timelines. It was probably similar up until the time Midna ascended to become ruler, the only difference being, without Ganondorf appearing to house power in Zant, the kingdom probably got along just fine.

The Mirror of Twilight, however, is fine in those two timelines. This is the wild card here. I'm certain there had to at least still be some knowledge of being separated from the "world of light" that is Hyrule, and a cult that studied in secret a way to reactivate the gate between worlds from their end. And, after centuries and many failed attempts, they at last achieved success! A link was established, and the gateway between Hyrule and the Twilight Realm reopened!

And then the Twilight Realm was promptly flooded and destroyed, but hey, at least the floodwaters of Hyrule receded!

Wouldn't Hyrule returning in the Adult timeline completely ruin the ending of Wind Waker?

That's why I didn't like Spirit Tracks

Er, how so? The King's dying wish is for Link and Tetra to find a new world, to make a new kingdom of their own, rather than revive Hyrule from beneath the sea. They did just that in Spirit Tracks.

Yeahhhh, I have to keep reminding people that the old Hyrule was to stay sunken beneath the ocean forever.  Not only that, but Spirit Tracks established a new Hyrule and uh, even if the waters receded over old Hyrule, who the hell would want to go back to that?  "Oh yeah, it's that land in ruins because an ancient evil attacked it and who knows if he'll return!"  New Hyrule is like, a utopia compared to that.  And also where the royal family resides anyway.  They'd basically have to entirely destroy New Hyrule to smoldering ashes to be like, "Welp, back to the ruins of old Hyrule!" :P

Yes. My post was an obvious joke. :P

They put the word "New" in front of Hyrule, but it it honestly that different? Didn't feel like it.

Wait. No. Hyrule won't stay under the ocean forever. It's that obscure plan of the Deku Tree's or whatever. Sorry if that is wrong.

The plan was not to drain the ocean, just connect all the islands together through tree roots or some shit. No, it makes no sense, but it's there.

It is significantly different, as you don't have all those old landmarks, you have new landmarks, and the new method of getting around is trains. If there was a new game in that series, I'd expect a more technological/technopunk one (hopefully with Wind Waker's art style, without getting mangled by DS graphics and with actual overworld travel like in Wind Waker, instead of having it be a minigame like in Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks).

To be honest, I would accept Wind Waker style graphics on the 3DS, because they would still look beautiful there. 3DS is capable of matching Gamecube in graphics, so it wouldn't be too difficult. I consider another major Zelda title on the 3DS unlikely at this point though.
